Chapter 60: Chapter 60
After Kian left, Luan also exited his office. Heading downstairs, he was immediately greeted by the lively atmosphere of the private rooms. In a good mood, he continued all the way down to the first floor.
Seeing all those people losing money was like music to his ears. A giant grin spread across his face as he left the building, followed by Kafele and Tokiko. Without Luan even needing to ask, they had taken it upon themselves to accompany him after noticing him walking around alone.
Luan nodded, satisfied. His servants had been well-trained, and even Tokiko—despite being employed for barely a week—was transitioning smoothly.
"Let’s go," Luan said.
Kafele gave a silent nod, while Tokiko simply followed along, unsure of what to say.
Together, they made their way through the city, stopping at various places. At one point, they took a seat in one of the busiest restaurants. Luan ordered some drinks and food, listening carefully to the drunken rambling around him.
At a rather large table, multiple young men were seated and were getting very drunk.
"Yo, waiter, more shots, please!" A rowdy young man shouted, still trying to be a little polite.
The waiter took one look at the man and nodded, going into the kitchen.
"It’s my treat, boys. I won big time yesterday," the rowdy young man declared, a proud look on his face.
"Won big? Where could an idiot like you win big, Traun?" Another young man countered, a mocking smile on his face.
The other men burst out laughing, some even falling off their chairs.
Traun glared at Troy but just shrugged. "You’re just jealous of my success," Traun said, downing his whole glass.
Troy also downed his glass, and the two were glaring at each other when the waiter arrived with the new round of shots.
Traun grabbed a glass and downed it in one go once more. Troy followed his example, not wanting to be outdone by his dumb friend.
"You want to know where I won big? Fine, the great me will tell you," Traun said, barely staying on his feet.
Now every single one of his friends was paying close attention to his next words. They needed to know where their broke friend had gotten enough money to treat them all to drinks.
"It’s a place called The Silver Coin on the west side of the city. It’s a large building standing alone; you can’t miss it."
"And how did you even earn this much money there then?" Troy asked, still suspicious about what Traun had said.
"Well, the people over there called it gambling, but it’s basically just playing games they created with money on the line. You can lose some or win some," Traun stated, a smug look on his face.
He had not only found it because some people on the market were talking about it, but he had also staked his last copper coins. In the hopes of hitting it big, he hit it big.
The other young men glanced at each other, and they all couldn’t help but smile as well. If Traun could win big, then they could probably become rich overnight by going there.
Troy rubbed his hands together. He almost wanted to rush straight there, but he first had to milk Traun dry, so he was going to go tomorrow.
"How about we go together tomorrow, Traun? With all of us, we’ll be able to earn a boatload of money," he said.
When Traun heard that, he smiled, "Deal! Now let’s keep drinking," he shouted, downing another glass.
Together with everyone else.
Luan nodded with a satisfied look on his face. "It seems the plan is working," he muttered.
"What plan?" Tokiko blurted out, curious as to what Luan meant.
He glanced at the girl sitting across from him with an amused look. "Isn’t that a little too informal?" Luan asked.
Only then did she realize what she had done. Bowing her head, almost hitting the table, "I’m sorry, my lord," she said apologetically.
Kafele rolled his eyes at Luan’s teasing. "My lord, are you going to keep doing that?" he asked, facepalming.
Tokiko tilted her head a little, unsure what Kafele meant. "What do you mean, Kafele?"
Kafele just shrugged and pointed at Luan, who was grinning from ear to ear. When she saw that, she felt something was amiss but couldn’t pinpoint what exactly.
"It was just a joke. Tokiko, don’t worry; you’re fine as long as you act accordingly when you need to. As for your question. The answer is, of course, The first week I made it so many people would win some money," Luan explained.
"But why would you do that, my lord?" She asked, not understanding why Luan would do that. Wasn’t that bad for the business?
"Of course it’s to hook customers like those dumbasses over there. After hearing that their friend won some chump change, they all got greedy and thought, ’If he can do it, so can we,’" Luan casually said, pointing at the rowdy table.
"Ah," Tokiko exclaimed, seemingly understanding Luan’s plan. The past week she had learned a lot about The Silver Coin and understood a large part of it.
The strategy Luan had just explained to her was a very sinister one. Losing a bit of profit in the short term but gaining customers in the long term.
’It seems this young man is rather smart,’ she thought, looking at Luan. She was glad she had tried to grab his attention the day they got the offer from him to promote his business.
"I understand now, my lord," she said with a nod.
Kafele also looked at Luan with a thoughtful look. He had thought he had plans to make sure The Silver Coin would succeed, but those kinds of strategies aren’t easy to come up with and execute.
Once more he was impressed by Luan’s insight and ideas.
After listening to some more rambling of drunkards and other people in the restaurant.
Luan threw a silver coin at the waiter. "Keep the change."
Kafele and Tokiko followed close behind him, and they left the restaurant.
Making their way through the city, Kafele recognized the path they were following. "Are we going to the dwarven shop, my lord?"
