Chapter 59: Chapter 59

The following week passed by in the blink of an eye. Luan’s meticulous planning and preparations were beginning to show as The Silver Coin steadily attracted more and more visitors. The quiet casino now buzzed with activity, with people eagerly trying their luck at the tables and enjoying the entertainment. The name "The Silver Coin" was spreading like wildfire throughout the city, with merchants and important people also trying it out.

But of course, not everyone had a positive evaluation of it. The people that lost money to it wanted to demand their money back, but the security made quick work of those. And just like that, day after day, the increase of people who visited to try the restaurant or gamble a little wasn’t overwhelming, but it was enough to see steady progress.

Luan had known from the start that it would take time to build momentum, and so far, the results had been very promising. Luan found himself alone in his office, overlooking the thriving casino below. He leaned back in his chair, fingers steepled as he watched the flow of people below.

Enjoying the laughter and chaos of the games happening outside his doors, he looked at the earnings and total revenue of this first week and was slightly disappointed by the numbers he saw. But he didn’t mind it; starting a business wasn’t something you do in a week. As long as it kept growing steadily, he would eventually reach his goal, and that was more than enough for him.

With a grin on his face, he handed the piece of paper to Kian. "What do you think for the first week?" he inquired.

Kian accepted the paper and carefully scrutinized it. "It’s quite good for a first week, I would say. Especially for a no-name like you, and the location also isn’t the greatest, considering it’s not in the center of the city," he said, nodding.

"Ah, I didn’t take those factors into account," Luan stated.

’That’s right, the location is definitely not ideal, but I needed this place for my other plans,’ he thought, clapping his hands together.

"I’ll have to revise my evaluation of the revenue. I think it’s a massive success, taking all those factors into account," Luan declared, a massive grin on his face.

Kian placed the paper back onto the desk and had a small smile on his face, seeing Luan act like that. He had been acting very mature the last couple of months, but he was still very young. Nodding to himself, he felt pride welling up inside him. It felt like looking over the growing madam, but this time it was her only son.

"Onto another matter now, Kian, who do you think I should appoint as the boss while I’m gone?" His earlier enthusiasm was nowhere to be seen.

Luan sat inside his chair, staring at Kian, his fingers locked together in front of his mouth. This was a very important matter to him. If he chose the wrong person, the whole thing might just collapse, so he absolutely couldn’t be careless with this matter.

Kian rubbed his beard, deep in thought. He thought about every member Luan had given the chance, but he couldn’t really pinpoint any one of them to be the best one.

"I wouldn’t be able to tell you only one person, my lord, but what I can tell you is two or three I would recommend and why," he replied.

Luan raised an eyebrow. That was surprising; it seemed there were multiple excellent options. Well, that’s good as well; maybe he could let those work together, appointing one as the "official" boss and the others as his aides, while in practice all three would be the boss.

"So who do you recommend, Kian?"

"I would recommend Jone, Kade, and Marissa. For the following reasons: all three have abundant experience and are trusted by your mother. And I would also say they are the most skilled in finance and managing businesses of this size."

Luan listened attentively to Kian’s reasoning and felt what he said made sense. He himself had also thought about appointing Kade as the boss. But after Kian explained everything he knew about all three and listed their advantages and disadvantages, he felt it would make more sense to appoint Jone as the leader and Marissa and Kade as his aides.

Proposing this idea to Kian, Luan wanted to know what his most trusted and most experienced butler thought about that approach.

"Hmmmm, that is a fine idea, my lord. But you should be careful; if they cannot work together, it will only lead to disaster, so I think you should test them in some way," Kian proposed.

"That is a great idea, Kian."

Turning his head, he looked at the closed door.

"Galan! Go and get Marissa, Kade, and Jone for me," he shouted.

And a while later, two men and a woman entered the room, all dressed in suits.

Luan looked at the three who had just entered, and with a nod, jumped straight in, not wasting any time.

"There is a single reason why I have called you three over." He started, pointing at Kian. "Kian will be observing you three very closely for the next couple of days, and then I will decide who becomes the boss in my absence," he finished, with a grin on his face.

Kian looked at Luan with a raised eyebrow. ’How is this testing them on their teamwork?’ he thought.

The three who had just entered the room looked surprised but quickly regained their composure, and with an elegant bow, they all thanked Luan for the opportunity.

"But there is a single condition you will need to abide by," Luan suddenly said. "You three will start working together for the next couple of days. Kian will brief you all on the details. I wish you the best of luck." After saying that, Luan leaned back into his chair and stared at the ceiling.

Kian turned his head sharply and looked confused at Luan. Marissa, Jone, and Kade looked just as confused. Their eyes aimed at Kian, who needed to judge their teamwork.

Kade turned to Jone. "Why would he do this? I know he’s the madam’s son, but this makes no sense," he whispered.

Jone nodded, agreeing with Kade’s statement. And while clearing his throat, he took a single step forward.

"Young master. Is there any reason for you to do this?" he inquired, with a deep bow.

Luan slowly sat back up and looked straight at Jone. "Yes, but I will only tell you the purpose after the test is over. You are dismissed," he said with a teasing smile on his face.

The three people looked at each other and just sighed and quietly left the room.

After they left, Kian turned to Luan and, with a stern gaze, was expecting answers.

"I know, Kian, I know. Give them tasks you think will be helpful in identifying if they will be able to work together properly for the next couple of days, and then tell me your conclusion. I just felt like doing it like this," Luan stated.

Kian could only sigh, shaking his head. "Alright, my lord, but please don’t keep doing this; it is very exhausting to deal with."
