Sigil Online: I became the duke's third son -
Chapter 56
Chapter 56: Chapter 56
The men from the slums stood up immediately. "We accept!" they all shouted in unison.
They only needed to talk about this place, and then they would get paid and free access to the restaurant. Why wouldn’t they do it?
Luan smiled, spreading some papers out on the table.
"If you agree to those terms, sign the contract and go to Kian to collect your payment," he said, pointing at the papers he had just spread out.
Hearing that, they all gulped. They had heard stories about contracts but never expected to come into contact with one. Much less needing to sign one.
The men from the slums, however, couldn’t care less; they went straight to the table where the contracts were laid out. Grabbed a pen and signed at the bottom.
After that they went to Kian to collect their cards and their payments.
"Kafele, guide them to the private room reserved for them." Luan ordered, holding the signed contracts with a smirk on his face.
The others who he had invited for this offer weren’t going to sign so readily. He looked over them and took a seat, staring at the ceiling.
The older man and woman looked at each other, unsure of what to do.
"What do you think, honey?" the man whispered.
The older woman looked at her husband, then at the young man.
"I think we should take the offer after carefully reading the contract through. If there are any hidden conditions, we’ll just reject it," she replied.
The elderly man nodded, "That’s a good idea. Yuuto and Tokiko, you heard her carefully read through it, and when you feel there aren’t any hidden conditions he hasn’t told us about, you can sign it if you want."
"Okay, Father," Yuuto said, walking toward the table.
Tokiko, on the other hand, looked at Luan, scrutinizing him. He looked no older than sixteen years old, but he was opening such a huge business and even offering gold coins just to promote his business?
His family must be insanely rich or powerful, maybe even both. She quickly fixed her clothes and slowly walked toward the table, occasionally stealing glances.
He didn’t seem to notice at all, keeping his eyes glued to the ceiling. Tokiko could only sigh and read through the contract carefully like her brother.
But while Luan did act uninterested, Vira was seated on his shoulder, invisible to anyone except himself; she kept emitting all kinds of signals.
But after spending months with her, he knew exactly what those signals meant. Well, of course he had trained Vira especially for this. When a woman showed interest in him or his money, Vira would emit these feelings.
He grinned; he had seen the daughter of the old couple, and she was quite the looker, but he couldn’t act too interested; she was only the daughter of common people.
She could at most become a maid or concubine, so he had to think carefully about whether he wanted to keep her by his side or not.
Kian had a hunch as to why he was acting like this, and he rolled his eyes just thinking about it.
’He has so many already... by the time it’s time to find a wife, will any noble ladies still want to marry him?’ he mused, but he knew he was worrying too much.
Luan was not only the son of one of the most powerful noble families in the empire, but he also possessed two sigils, so even if he acted like a drunkard all the time, there would always be families that would want to make a connection with the Meskevela household through him.
Still, Kian felt it would be more proper for him to wait with all this after deciding on his first wife, but he couldn’t do anything about it. Luan was his lord and a capable one at that.
The current duke was quite the odd one out among the powerful nobles, only having three wives and no concubines.
Kian shook his head, focusing once more. Seeing Luan glare at him, he scratched his cheek awkwardly.
Glaring fiercely at Kian, who seemed to be lost in his own world. Then he turned his attention to the brother and sister. Yuuto had signed the contract, but Tokiko was still glancing his way after every sentence she read.
Luan made up his mind. "You wait here and don’t sign yet," he said to Tokiko.
Who smiled sweetly at his words. She took a seat next to her mother again.
Her parents now slowly stood up and looked at each other with a worried expression; it seemed like that young man had taken an interest in Tokiko.
Is it a good or bad thing? They couldn’t tell, but what they did know is they wouldn’t just hand her over to any bastard.
Standing in front of the table, they looked Luan dead in the eyes, and the elderly man cleared his throat.
"Young man, will you treat her properly and with respect?" he inquired. Even though sweat was dripping from his forehead, as her father, he had to be firm in his beliefs.
Luan raised an eyebrow at the unexpected question. Kian and Luciano glanced at one another, stifling a chuckle.
"Of course, why would I ever treat her badly? I’m no bastard." Luan stated, a smug look on his face.
The couple looked at each other, then at Tokiko. It seemed she had made up her mind. Even if the path ahead might be a thorny one, they wouldn’t stop her.
"What’s your name, young man?" the woman asked.
"Did I forget to introduce myself? Oopsie, my name is Luan Meskevela. I’m from the Alderon Empire. From the ducal Meskevela family." He proudly stated.
The couple looked at each other, mouths agape. Then he looked at their daughter, who also had her mouth agape. He was clearly a big shot if he came from the Alderon Empire, and on top of that, he was from one of the most well-known families.
Clearing his throat, the elderly man looked at him. "I am Keizo, and this is my wife, Etsuko," he said.
As they both signed the contract.
