Chapter 49: Chapter 49
"What do I need it for, you ask? Well, to protect my businesses," Luan said, staring straight at Giuseppe.
"You want me to make hundreds of weapons to protect your businesses? What kind of mega business empire do you have?" Giuseppe countered, not buying a single word that Luan was saying.
"Well, I don’t have any business empire yet. I’m preparing to launch the business soon," Luan stated.
Giuseppe’s eyes widened in surprise. "So you want all these weapons for a non-existent business that could flop?"
"Flop? It won’t flop; that’s why I’m preparing this thoroughly. I know for certain it will succeed. And make me rich as hell," Luan proudly declared, a smug look on his face.
Giuseppe sighed, taking a quick look at Kian, who just stood behind Luan, nodding along to his words. ’It seems he believes in his young master’s business plan? But why is he so certain?’ Giuseppe thought, staring Luan straight in the eyes.
"How are you so certain? Any business can fail, you know, especially one from a young noble like yourself."
"I can’t tell you without you signing a contract," Luan said, grinning slyly.
Giuseppe rolled his eyes, and seeing the maid behind him giggle at her master’s words, he thought he had a decent grasp on his personality. Clearing his throat, he said, "Alright, I’ll make them. Do you want to be able to pick them all up at once or in batches?"
"Batches for sure, like every week—sound good?"
"Every week, that should be fine. I’ll just have to close up the shop for a while so I can fully focus on this order. But with such a lucrative order, that’s perfectly fine. Deal," Giuseppe said.
The two exchanged a firm handshake, the huge grin on Luan’s face startling Giuseppe, but he just sighed. Had he been duped? Well, no matter. If it was to protect him, he didn’t mind making the weapons, but if he ever found out that Luan lied or used them for something he didn’t agree with, he would make sure no blacksmith would take him on.
"Thank you. I’ll send Kian over once a week to collect the weapons," Luan said, leaving the shop with Clover and Kian in tow.
After closing the door, Giuseppe put up a closed sign and went straight into the back, where Grant was practicing blacksmithing.
"Grant, we have a big order, so no more lazing around, or we won’t be able to meet our quota," he declared, placing the note Luan had given him on a table.
"Big order? From whom would you accept a big order, grumpy old man?" Grant grumbled while smacking the sword he was forging with the hammer.
Smack!
Grant was smacked by Giuseppe, who looked dissatisfied at his apprentice. "Mind your manners! I’m still your master," Giuseppe sternly said, glaring at Grant, who had let go of his equipment and was rubbing the back of his head.
"And who else would I accept such a big order from if not that guy from yesterday?"
"Ah, that makes sense. So how big is this order?" Grant inquired while glaring right back at his master.
"About three thousand gold coins’ worth," Giuseppe stated while preparing everything to start forging.
"Oh, three thousand... Wait, what?! Three thousand gold coins? What the hell?" Grant blurted out, his mouth agape as he stared at Giuseppe.
"Master, please tell me we aren’t just going to work, work, work until it’s finished," Grant asked, but he already knew the answer; he knew his master’s temper very well.
"Of course we are. Now get to work. We have a big job to do, and after that, we’ll take a well-deserved vacation."
Grant could only sigh and started preparing everything with his master. Even if he wanted to quit or run away, he knew it was futile, so he could only power through and hope this nightmare would be over soon.
"Now that went well, and you’re right, Kian, that was a quality shop," Luan said, leisurely walking through the city.
"Thank you, my lord," Kian politely replied.
Walking through the city, the three spotted a nice-looking restaurant and decided to stop there for lunch.
After waiting in line for a while, they were seated at a rather cozy table. Luan looked around lazily. The restaurant was pretty small but jam-packed to the brim; they had the last free table. Lots of families were eating and happily chatting together.
With a snap of his fingers, Lumi and Vira appeared on Luan’s shoulders. The two spirits, who had been floating around him while invisible for the most part, immediately jumped straight in and started rubbing their faces against Luan’s cheeks.
Clover and Kian glanced at each other with a small smile on their faces.
"What are you two smiling for?" Luan said, clicking his tongue. "Clover, go order food and drinks."
"As you wish, my lord," she replied and stood up, going to the counter where the waiters were taking orders.
"So Kian, next we should be looking for a venue, right? Or am I forgetting something?" Luan casually asked.
"No, that’s correct, my lord, and after that, we need to head back to the inn to check the slaves the others picked out."
Luan nodded, looking forward to what kind of slaves they would pick out. He had even given Luciano some special orders—to pick out a couple of special slaves.
He rubbed his hands together; he could hardly wait to see what kind of slaves he would see.
Kian rolled his eyes. After he heard what Luan had ordered Luciano to do, he rubbed his temples. "My lord, this isn’t the empire, so please act with a bit more tact and restraint," he cautioned Luan, hoping he would take any of his words to heart.
But he didn’t expect it. He had seen how his lord acted; he did whatever he wanted whenever he wanted. Even though he hadn’t caused any trouble he couldn’t handle yet, Kian feared it wouldn’t take much longer for something Luan couldn’t handle to happen.
"Don’t worry so much, Kian; I know what I’m doing," Luan replied, a smirk tugging at his lips.
