Chapter 42
Chapter 42: Chapter 42
Kian and the bandit leader stood opposite each other, looking at each other. "You’re not bad for a bandit." Kian said, clapping his hands.
The bandit leader spit on the ground, "What the hell kind of butler are you!" He shouted as cold sweat was dropping from his brows.
Frantically looking around, but the only thing he saw was utter devastation, corpses everywhere, and most houses had collapsed or were burning.
Kian smirked, seeing Luciano and Kafele sitting on a nearby rooftop; he shook his head. "Time to finish this; my lord is waiting," he stated loud enough for the duo to hear.
They looked surprised and glanced at each other. Then at the same time their mouths agape. "Shit, we were so engrossed in the fight we completely forgot about that!" Kafele said, jumping upright and rushing out of the camp.
With Luciano tailing close behind, Kian sighed. "They still have a lot to learn," he muttered, grasping the handle of his dagger tightly and staring straight at the bandit captain.
"This will be the last move; try and learn something for your next life," he declared, as his body turned into a shadow.
The bandit leader gripped his axe tightly and started running after the two men he had just seen run away, trying to find an escape route.
But Kian had at some point appeared beside him, but the bandit leader didn’t seem to realize it. As if Kian was a shadow.
Then at the perfect moment, he attacked. Beheading the bandit leader with one fluid motion, the edge of his dagger was pitch black, not even a single drop of blood on it.
"Took longer than I expected; it seems I’m getting rusty," he muttered, wiping his suit with his small handkerchief, clicking his tongue in annoyance.
"Too much blood; I’ll have to wash up later," he said, leaving the camp and making his way toward Luan, Luciano, and Kafele with a smile on his face.
Outside the camp, Luan was leaning against the large wooden wall surrounded by corpses. But he seemed dissatisfied.
"Barely forty stragglers that I needed to handle." He sighed, looking disappointed.
Then Kafele and Luciano rushed toward him out of breath; they glanced at Luan, who stood there leaning against the wall.
"What’s going on? Did something go wrong in the camp?" Luan asked, a smirk appearing on his face.
Between gasps of air, Luciano said, "No, everything went perfectly fine. We just forgot to rush to your side after finishing our job. But it seems we worried for nothing." Luciano explained, looking around and seeing corpses lying around Luan.
Luan clicked his tongue and rolled his eyes. "I can handle this much, you know."
Kafele and Luciano glanced at each other and chuckled; then they saw Kian approaching them, but they didn’t feel his presence at all, and they couldn’t hear his footsteps.
It was as if he wasn’t there, but they clearly saw his figure. Luciano felt he still had a long way to go to master his sigil compared to Kian; they both had stealth and speed-oriented sigils.
But Kian’s mastery was miles ahead of Luciano’s. Balling his hand into a fist, he swore in his heart to train even harder.
"It seems my worries were for nothing. Good job, my lord." Kian politely said, glancing at all the corpses.
Luan gave him a nod. "We’ll stay here for the night and loot the place thoroughly and then make our way to the Xandrian Freeholds tomorrow. Let’s go." Saying that, Luan started walking back to the carriage.
Even though he couldn’t let loose now. His mood was still quite good, just thinking about the loot he would get from this camp.
The three butlers followed close behind him as they went back to the carriage.
Arriving at the carriage, the four men looked at each other; everyone except Luan was covered in blood. If they entered the carriage like this, they didn’t know what might happen when the girls woke up.
Luan quickly made a huge bathtub and filled it with water, pointing at it. Kian and the others knew what he meant.
After taking a bath and dressing themselves, Luan woke Ava up.
"Drive the carriage forward into the camp; we need to loot the place," he ordered.
The groggy Ava rubbed her eyes a couple of times and slowly got up. Nodding while stretching her whole body.
But then realization seemed to dawn upon her as she jumped out of bed, stumbling against Luan.
"Are you okay, Ava?" Luan asked, supporting her body and keeping her steady.
Ava’s face turned bright red as she tried to compose herself. "I’m sorry, my lord. I’ll get to it immediately." She shouted, then covered her mouth with her hands immediately.
She glanced at the other girls still sleeping peacefully on the bed.
Luan just rolled his eyes. "Chill out, Ava, you’re doing fine, and it’s the middle of the night." He reassured her and left the room.
Ava quickly got dressed and tried to calm herself down. "I thought for sure it was time for that." She mumbled as she left the room and saw Luan, Kian, Kafele, and Luciano seated at the dinner table.
Even though they had washed up, she could still smell the scent of blood lingering in the air, walking past them. Kian stood up and opened the carriage door for her.
"I’ll accompany you like the lord ordered me to," he said, leaving the carriage and holding the door open.
Ava meekly walked past the three seated at the table, looking at her feet, and also left the carriage.
And half an hour later they arrived at the bandit hideout where Bart and the four spirits were still holding down the fort.
Luan leisurely walked toward them, patting Bart and Vira on the head. "Good job, you all. Now take a well-deserved nap." And without standing on ceremony, Bart plopped down on the ground and fell asleep almost instantly.
