Chapter 43: Chapter 43
After a good night’s sleep, Luan ordered everyone to collect everything from the bandits and not leave a single blade of grass unturned.
At first the girls were hesitant because the camp was filled with filthy corpses, but Luan wouldn’t budge, even going as far as saying he would leave them behind if they couldn’t even do this much.
Once everyone was busy collecting loot and stuffing it into the chest, Luan went right back to sleep, with a content expression on his face.
Celia and Ava were working together, navigating through the camp, looking horrified by all the corpses and the stench that was emanating from them.
"That bastard, lazing around on his ass while we need to do all the dirty work." Celia grumbled, gnashing her teeth.
Ava looked around and covered Celia’s mouth with her hand. "Shhh, don’t be so loud. I know he can be a bit of a jerk, but he is still our lord," she cautioned Celia.
Celia clicked her tongue. "I should’ve refused his offer after what he pulled at the guild. I should have known he was bad news." She muttered, accidentally stepping on a bandit’s body.
As she lost her balance and fell on the corpse, her eyes went wide, and a loud scream could be heard from her mouth.
Bart sprinted toward the girls, but when he saw what was happening, he turned around just as fast. Rolling his eyes.
Ava also looked horrified, quickly helping Celia up. "You should stop talking bad about the lord and focus on collecting the loot." She stated.
Celia glared at her but nodded and shut her mouth, picking up some necklaces they had found.
After a couple of hours, the whole camp was cleaned out; they had collected everything from corpses to materials, and of course the treasures.
Kian sat next to Ava behind the horses, pointing toward the direction they needed to go; finally, they were going to arrive at the Xandrian Freeholds.
After weeks in the wilderness, he couldn’t wait any longer, and he decided that while Luan was fast asleep or lying in bed, he would guide Ava to the Freeholds, making sure they wouldn’t meet any more monsters or bandits on the way.
He was done with fighting and gathering funds, taking a quick look at the improvised cage Luan had created on top of the carriage; there were all kinds of creatures locked up in there.
A wyvern, a hobgoblin. Some wolves and more, he sighed, shook his head, and focused on getting to their destination as fast as possible.
After another half a day of traveling through the forest, he finally saw it: a huge wall with gates at regular intervals.
"We have finally arrived, it seems." He muttered, a smile on his face.
When Ava heard that, she also heaved a sigh of relief. Living in the wild for that long was not fun; even though the carriage was a small house, it was still outside, and monsters could appear at any moment, or Luan could go do something insane.
But here she would finally be able to rest in peace.
Lining up behind the other carriages, they waited in line patiently until it was their turn.
"Name and reason for coming." The guard said, looking at the large carriage.
Kian took out Luan’s adventurer card and handed it to the guard. "We are traveling."
Looking at the adventurer card, the guard’s eyes widened, but he quickly regained his bearings and looked at the crest on the carriage, then at Kian and Ava; with a nod, he handed the card back.
"Enjoy your stay," he said.
Kian and Ava gave him a small nod and entered through the gates.
"Wow, it’s bustling here. No wonder the lord wanted to come here." Ava muttered, looking around. There were people walking everywhere.
Humans, beastmen, dwarves, and even elves. It was bustling, and there were stalls everywhere. And shops and vendors were shouting and promoting their own booths to the people outside.
"Well, this is a nation ruled by the merchant guild, and you can basically buy anything here if you have enough money." Kian said.
"Let’s focus for now. We don’t have all day to be loitering around." He added, looking around, then he pointed in a certain direction.
"Go there, and after that, you should see someone waving at us."
Ava nodded, urging the horses to go where Kian had pointed; after a while, they stopped in front of a large inn. Where multiple well-dressed men and women stood, bowing their heads slightly.
"We welcome the third young master." They said in unison.
Kian glanced at the people, surprised he knew Luan had sent a letter to his parents. But he didn’t know the contents of the letter; it seemed he had made some big moves to ensure his business would succeed.
Kian jumped off the carriage and stood in front of them. "My lord will come out shortly. Where can we place the carriage?"
"Follow me," an older man wearing a black suit said, pointing toward a huge space where multiple other carriages were parked.
Kian looked at it for a while and then turned to the older man. "Is it safe? My lord has a lot of valuables on board," he whispered to the older man.
The older man nodded; Kian gazed into his eyes and, after a while, also nodded and gave Ava the sign to place the carriage where the other carriages stood.
After placing the carriage, Luan and all the servants stood in front of the group that had welcomed him.
"Are you the people Mother sent at my request?" Luan asked, carefully inspecting them all one by one.
They were all well-dressed and looked rather professional. He was glad he had made that request from his mother; otherwise, recruiting this much capable personnel would have been a nightmare.
"Yes, young master. And we have made reservations in this inn for half a year, so you can take your time to do everything you need to do. All paid for by the first madam." The older man said, with a bow.
