Chapter 39: Chapter 39

After enjoying a hearty meal with everyone, Luan glanced at the growling wolf that was standing not far from the carriage.

Sighing, he walked towards it and started petting it, trying to soothe it.

"If you behave, I’ll treat you well." Luan muttered, hoping the wolf would understand.

But it kept growling and was about to attack Luan once more when Luan saw that he sighed, and the wolf got electrocuted once more, falling onto the ground, not being able to move a muscle.

Whimpering from the pain, it glared at Luan, who just shrugged and entered the carriage. "Kian, throw it on top of the carriage. We can’t have a wild animal running rampant inside it," he said, closing the door behind him.

All the servants stared at each other and then looked at Kafele and Kian in unison.

Luciano cleared his throat. "What’s going on here?" he demanded, giving Kafele a nasty look.

Kafele shrugged, glancing at Kian, and after seeing a nod, he started explaining the events that had transpired during the hunt.

After explaining the whole story, everyone looked at the closed carriage door with wry smiles.

"Well, that certainly does sound like our lord, doing whatever he wants whenever he wants." After saying that, everyone glanced at Celia.

They all knew what Luan had done to her and felt sorry for her. Celia puffed her cheeks up. "Don’t look at me with those looks full of pity!" she declared.

"He might be a bit of a bastard and act however he wants, but he does take good care of us." She said.

Kian clapped his hands. "Don’t talk about your lord like that, Celia," stating that he threw the wolf onto the carriage and started cleaning up the dishes and table.

"Stop standing around doing nothing, and let’s move; the lord doesn’t have all day." Kian said.

Then everyone started cleaning everything up, and in no time everyone had entered the carriage, and they were back on the road. Onwards toward the Xandrian Freeholds.

Days blurred into weeks as their journey toward the Xandrian Freeholds continued. The road was long, the landscape ever-changing. Dense forests giving way to open plains, winding trails turning into rocky paths where the wheels of their carriage groaned in protest.

Of course, it wasn’t a peaceful trip.

Wild beasts and monsters made frequent appearances, each more troublesome than the last. A group of goblins had the audacity to set up an ambush, only to be reduced to smoking corpses after Luan casually unleashed a storm of lightning.

One night, a massive wyvern circled above their camp, its piercing shriek rattling their bones. Kian and Kafele had been ready to fight, but Luan simply looked up and muttered, "Now that is something useful," before launching a bolt of electricity that sent the creature crashing down.

And Kian, Kafele, and Luciano bound its wings tightly and made a makeshift muzzle. Before tying it to the top of the carriage. Luan, glancing at the magnificent creature tied to the top of the carriage, had a smug look on his face.

Bart, the wolf, remained as stubborn as ever. Though he no longer tried to rip Luan’s throat out, he had developed a different method of revenge, eating twice as much food as the other horses and refusing to move unless personally fed by Luan himself. Kafele found it hilarious. Luan did not.

The trip wasn’t just filled with monsters. Bandits continued to be a persistent annoyance, and Luan had no patience for their existence. Unless they had lots of treasure, of course, then Luan didn’t mind it at all.

The first group that crossed their path barely had time to realize their mistake before they were wiped out. And Luan, who was looking forward to looting the base, left the base grumbling.

"Useless bastards," he muttered, kicking the bandit leader’s corpse and glaring at it. Like it had personally ruined his life.

The second hideout they raided proved to be more profitable—filled with stolen gold and supplies that Luan happily redistributed (mostly to himself). With each encounter, their pockets became fuller, and Luan’s mood improved as he was looking forward to starting his business once he arrived.

But then, as they crested a hill one evening, the real challenge revealed itself.

A fortified hideout, much larger than the ones they had seen before. The scent of burning wood mixed with the distant sounds of laughter and clinking tankards. This wasn’t a mere gang of bandits.

This was an organized force.

Luan smirked, stretching his arms. "Now this... this looks fun."

Kian glanced at Luciano and Kafele. They all nodded at each other; a long night was ahead of them.

Luan quickly put up the barrier and summoned the four guardians and left the carriage with Kian, Kafele Luciano, and Bart following closely behind.

"Damn, even Bart, huh? Well, he has warmed up to me." Clicking his tongue, Luan muttered.

Kafele chuckled, remembering how Bart and Luan were always at the other’s throat.

"My lord, are you sure you want to attack something of this size? This is nothing compared to our earlier raids." He cautioned Luan.

"Stop worrying so much, Kian. I’m also not the same as I used to be. Fighting so much these last couple of weeks has drastically improved mine and their abilities." Luan stated, pointing at the other three standing behind him.

Kian nodded; he knew that much, but still, this was clearly a different level from all the other things they had ever done before. But knowing Luan, he would absolutely not miss this opportunity to earn some big bucks.

Heaving a sigh, Kian decided to just focus on the task at hand. Trying to change Luan’s mind was basically impossible anyway, so it was better to fully commit to wiping them out to minimize the risk.

"So what’s the plan, my lord?" Kian asked, glancing at the huge camp. Standing in front of them.

Luan looked at the camp and sat down, scratching his chin. "No idea," he stated, shrugging.
