Chapter 37: Chapter 37

Kian looked at Luan with a wry smile. ’Even though he acts nonchalant, he has been steadily accumulating funds for his goal.’

"As long as you don’t get overconfident and keep a level head." He said leaving Luan to tend to his other chores.

Luan was staring at the ceiling with a silly grin on his face. "Almost there. I’ll just try and find some more hideouts on the way," he muttered.

Celia and Samantha were seated at the table not far from Luan; Celia stared at Samantha. "Is he always like that?" She inquired.

"Yep, what can I say? He has a very free spirit." Samantha said, a smile spreading across her face.

After hearing that, Celia didn’t know what to say anymore, and they just sat there staring at one another.

Lily, who was still working on the prototypes, looked at the two, "Um, he might act like that, but he’s actually a good lord and master. He might have his quirks, and he might do some questionable things, however, to achieve his goals," she interjected.

Celia and Samantha looked at her surprised she would speak up for their lord.

With a teasing smile, Samantha said. "Has someone fallen in love with their lord?"

When Celia heard that, all the color drained from her face; she looked at Luan, afraid of what he might do, but to her surprise, he didn’t seem to care at all.

Lily, on the other hand, turned bright red; stopping with what she was doing, she covered her face with her hands.

Now it was Samantha’s turn to be surprised. "Huh, Lily, are you serious?" She blurted it out.

Celia gave her a stern glare. "What are you doing? He might act nonchalant, but he is still a noble from an esteemed house." She whispered, trying to get Samantha to drop the topic.

"Cece, don’t worry so much; as long as we aren’t in the presence of others, the Lord said we can act casually as long as we act properly when the situation asks for it." Samantha said, poking Celia’s cheek.

Celia glanced once more at Luan, who was still lazily lying on the sofa, not caring about their banter.

"Fine, I get it. Could you please stop poking me now?" She stated, grabbing Samantha’s hand and shoving it away.

"Boo," Samantha said, turning her head away.

Propping himself up slowly, Luan looked at the trio. "Lily, tell Ava that she should take a bit of a detour to look for monsters or bandits," he ordered, yawning.

Seeing this as an opportunity, she jumped out of her chair and ran straight towards Ava, who was driving the carriage with Luciano seated next to her.

After relaying Luan’s message to her, she didn’t return to the living room but instead decided to continue working on the prototypes in another room.

Celia was still baffled by the strange atmosphere in the carriage. Luan didn’t feel like a noble at all. He was... something else. She couldn’t quite place it, but she liked it.

She was still somewhat apprehensive toward Luan because of how he had recruited her, but she liked the other servants quite a bit. It felt like she had gained sisters.

After taking a detour and entering the forest again, Kafele and Kian were carefully paying attention to find any traces of bandits or monsters, and after half a day of aimlessly wandering around the forest, they had finally found a trace.

"These are traces of wolves, and not just any; they’re the apex predators of this particular forest." Kian explained, and seeing the massive grin on Luan’s face, he knew what he was about to declare.

"Stop the carriage right here, and let’s hunt some wolves." Luan declared, pointing at Kian and Kafele.

He continued, "You two will join me. And Luciano, you will stay back and guard the carriage." Then, without waiting, he summoned the spiritual barrier and the spirit guardians once more.

"With this, you should be safe from most things. Ok, let’s go!" Stating that he urged Kian to show the way towards the wolves, Luciano looked at the trio leaving with dissatisfaction.

Clicking his tongue a couple of times, he looked at the girls. "Stop staring; you know how he is; just continue what you were doing inside this barrier; we’re very safe." He said, jumping onto the carriage, taking a seat to make sure he saw everything happening around the carriage.

Celia just stood there, pointing at Luan’s back. "Is this how he always is? So careless?" she asked Samantha, who stood next to her.

She shrugged, "Better get used to it fast, Cece. Or you’re in for a wild ride," she replied, continuing with her chores like nothing had happened.

Celia sighed. ’He really is unique,’ she mused.

As she also got back to her chores.

"My lord, could you please act with a bit more tact?" Kian pleaded, how could his lord act this carefree in the middle of a forest surrounded by monsters and bandits?

He couldn’t understand Luan currently; he thought he grasped Luan’s personality fairly well. But it seemed he still had a long way to go.

"Nah, I don’t feel like it." Luan said, walking with his hands clasped behind his head, completely at ease.

Kafele chuckled at Luan’s response. "Kian I think you’re only wasting your energy and time by trying to change the young master," he stated.

Kian sighed, holding the bridge of his nose. "That is a good point, Kafele," he replied, focusing on the job at hand, finding those wolves as fast as possible.

"Be quiet now; we’re getting closer. Just follow me and don’t talk anymore." Kian ordered speeding up.

Luan and Kafele followed close behind, both grinning. Luan had heard in the guild that wolf meat was very delicious, so he was looking forward to eating some of them after slaughtering them.

Then a while later they spotted their prey: a pack of around twenty wolves was lying there.
