Chapter 36: Chapter 36

"New job? Why? Did you not do your work properly at the guild?" Luan said, a smug grin on his face.

Celia just rolled her eyes and walked right past him, not paying him any more attention.

Seeing that Luan’s attitude changed completely, clearing his throat, he started walking next to her.

"Well, I need a servant, so how about it?" He said, hands in his pockets and looking at the carriage not far from them.

Celia suddenly stopped and turned sharply; she looked at Luan furiously. "Did you go that far just for this?" she demanded.

Luan shrugged. "Yeah, why not?" he nonchalantly replied.

Celia clenched her fists tightly, her knuckles turning white, giving Luan the nastiest glare he had ever seen.

"Spoiled brat! You’re ruining people’s lives, and for what? Just because you want to hire them as a servant?! How dare you!" Celia screamed at him, not mincing her words anymore.

She didn’t care anymore if she was killed because of it, so be it; she needed to let this bastard see that what he was doing was horrible.

Luan looked at her, still smiling. "There we have it, your true thoughts; that’s all I wanted to hear," he said, looking at the sky.

"But my offer still stands; want to work for me? I’m not going to lie; I think it’s a great offer." he said.

Celia stared at Luan, stunned. "Why are you not angry or anything? I just screamed at you and even called you names." She stammered, thinking about her earlier outburst; shivers ran down her spine.

If it was anyone else standing in front of her, she would most definitely become a criminal slave or worse, get executed on the spot.

"Why am I not angry? You ask." Luan repeated. Turning toward the carriage with the Meskevela crest on the door.

"I don’t really care for all that noble stuff. I just enjoy my life, and I personally enjoy having servants that have an actual opinion and aren’t just yes men." He replied, leisurely approaching the carriage.

"So for the last time, do you want this job or not?" He stated, not turning to face her.

Celia stared at Luan’s back, then at the carriage. ’It’s a great opportunity. But he has sabotaged my previous job.’

Deep in thought, she was weighing the pros and cons carefully; it was risky from what she had seen; he acted whimsically and based on his gut feeling.

Unsure if she should take his offer, she thought about how hard it was to get hired at the adventurers guild; with a sigh, she quietly followed Luan toward the carriage.

"I’ll become your servant, young master," she said, bowing politely.

With a huge smirk, Luan turned around and patted her a couple of times on the head. "Welcome aboard," he declared.

After entering the carriage, Luan jumped straight onto the sofa. "Help her change her clothes and teach her the most important things." He ordered Samantha and closed his eyes.

"Oh yeah, Ava, get us the hell out of the capital. It’s time to go toward the Xandrian Freeholds," he stated, not even looking if Ava had heard him.

Celia was taken aback by what she saw inside the carriage; it was like a house on wheels. Looking at the woman that Luan called Samantha, she asked. "What is all this?"

"This is an artifact the young lord got from his esteemed parents." She replied, grabbing Celia’s hand and pulling her away.

Celia was flustered but led Samantha to lead the way.

After leaving the capital hastily, the carriage was making its way toward the Xandrian Freeholds. Meanwhile in the capital, lots of noble ladies looked around, trying to find the carriage with the youngest son of Duke Meskevela inside it.

"Where is he!" One young lady demanded, stomping her feet.

She had dressed herself up hastily after hearing the news that his carriage was spotted inside the capital, but now it looked like he had already left or worse, he might’ve never been here.

Her butler looked exhausted, running around following the young lady’s every whim.

"Young lady, I fear he has already left," he said, ready for the tirade she was about to go on.

"Are you serious?!" she shouted, stomping her feet on the ground.

After a while she had finally calmed down, "Let’s go back, Fran," she ordered, looking at all the filthy commoners that were now looking at her and whispering things among themselves.

"My lord." Kian softly said, waiting for Luan to open his eyes.

"Yes?" he lazily said, still lying on the sofa, not even opening his eyes.

"I have counted all the gold coins we got from selling the loot and the bounty; I came to report it."

"Now this is what I’ve been waiting for!" Luan exclaimed, propping himself up and staring at Kian, urging him to tell him.

Kian let a small smile slip. "We have a grand total of 8310 gold coins right now," he proudly declared.

When Luan heard the amount, he was stunned for a moment. Only a short moment because right after, he started laughing like a maniac.

"My lord, please behave yourself." Kian said, clearly flustered by Luan’s sudden outburst.

The other servants also stopped what they were doing to glance at Luan, but when they saw Kian give them a nasty glare, they quickly continued what they were doing.

"My bad, my bad," Luan said, flashing a huge grin.

"But can you blame me? We collected that much gold from only one bandit camp."

Kian sighed; even he was surprised. It seemed what Guido had said about them being notorious wasn’t an exaggeration. They truly had a lot of wealth.

"I should try and raid a couple more; easy money." Luan blurted out.

When Kian heard that, he was both excited and exasperated. "My lord, that was just lucky; most bandit groups won’t even have half of what this one had," he explained.

"Who cares? The money rolling in will still be quite good. And it’s a hell of a lot faster than everything else."
