Chapter 35: Chapter 35
Celia stood in front of Guido, confusion written across her face. "Why did you call me here, sir?" she asked.
Guido let out a heavy sigh, his expression empty. "I’m sorry, Celia, but effective immediately... you’re fired."
The words hit her like a brick, almost making her lose her balance. She grabbed the edges of the bench, propping herself up; she looked at Guido, lips quivering.
"Why, sir?! Did I do something wrong? Please, tell me! I’ll try to do better next time," she said, looking around in a panic.
No way in hell would she accept being fired like this, without them even giving her a reason.
"Just give it up, Celia. There is nothing we as the guild can do, and especially not that you can do." Guido stated.
Even though the guild could probably interfere, why would they? She was just a receptionist that had been working here not even a full year. They wouldn’t help her for something this bothersome; it was easier to just comply with the whims of the young noble.
Celia sat down on the bench, holding her head with both hands, tears streaming down her face. Why was this happening to her?
Then the silhouette of a young noble flashed across her mind, and she shot upright, glaring at Guido. "Was this the doing of that young noble?" She demanded.
Guido nodded, a helpless look on his face.
Celia wanted nothing more than to beat that young noble black and blue, but she knew that was but a pipe dream; with a defeated look, she stared at the ground for a while.
Then without further ado, she turned to Guido. "I’m sure this must have been difficult for you as well. Goodbye then and thanks for everything." She said, leaving the room.
Guido looked at the closed door that the girl had just closed, his earlier sympathy gone. "Who do you think you are, saying things like that to me?" Clicking his tongue, he started looking for the employee he had given the noble’s guild card to.
’It’s always so troublesome. Well, at least there is a big bonus since that girl was fired.’ A smile tugging at his lips, whistling a random tune, he saw the employee hurrying back to the room.
"You there!" Guido called out.
"Go bring that card downstairs to the man you just saw in the room." Guido ordered, and with that everything was done, and he could go back to his personal office.
The young man holding Luan’s guild card hurried downstairs, looking everywhere for the older gentleman he had seen in the room; after looking around for a while, he finally found him.
Tapping his shoulder twice, he politely bowed a little, presenting the updated guild card to Kian.
"Here you go, sir," he said.
Kian carefully took the guild card, examining it closely, and with a nod, thanked the employee.
Without waiting for a response, the employee made his way back to the second floor to continue his work.
Kian shrugged, turning to Ava and Samantha. "Alright, we are done here; let’s go," he said.
Ava and Samantha nodded and stood up together with Kian, leaving the building and going back to the carriage stationed close by.
Luan, who was seated in front of the carriage with a huge grin on his face, was impatiently tapping his knee.
"Took you long enough, so what’s the loot looking like? Hurry up and tell me; I’ve waited long enough already." Luan said exasperatedly.
While Kian and the two maids were exchanging all that Luan had, Kafele and Luciano sold all the weapons and other things they had looted from the bandits.
Surprised by how much they had brought back, Luan assumed they would have had a fairly hefty bounty on their heads.
Kian stopped next to Luan, ducking a little; he whispered something in his ear.
When Luan heard that number, his earlier annoyance vanished like it was never there.
"Good, good," he said; he felt very good now; he had some capital to start his business now.
"Oh yeah, Kian, how did the other thing go?"
"It is done, young master; if you just wait here, you should see her leaving the building any moment now." Kian replied.
Luan nodded with a smug grin on his face. ’Abusing noble privileges is quite fun,’ he mused.
"You three enter and start sorting all the loot together with what the others sold, and Kian reports the total amount back to me." Luan ordered, focusing his gaze on the entrance of the guild building.
The trio nodded and entered the carriage.
And a couple moments later, his prey left the building.
Celia had changed into her casual clothes, wearing a long blue dress that complemented her long blue hair nicely.
Luan slowly stood up and started slowly walking toward her.
The moment Celia saw him, she wanted to run. Her fingers fidgeting with the hems of her dress, she glanced around frantically to see if anyone would be of help.
But when they saw the carriage behind Luan with that crest, they all turned away, taking some distance, hoping the young noble wasn’t coming toward them.
And luckily he didn’t; when they saw Luan standing in front of Celia, they all started paying close attention to what was about to unfold.
"Hello, Celia. How’s it going?" Luan leisurely asked. His hands in his pockets and a confident grin on his face.
As if he hadn’t just orchestrated for her to get fired from the guild.
Celia bit down on her lip, glaring at Luan. "Hello, young master, it’s not going too well." She replied, trying her best to stay composed and not jump him.
"What happened?" Luan asked, acting clueless.
Celia couldn’t be bothered with his antics anymore. "If there is nothing else, I will be going unlike a certain someone. I need to find a new job." She snarled, trying not to be too rude, but she really couldn’t be bothered anymore.
