Chapter 34: Chapter 34

"Yes, this particular gang had multiple bounties. Did you wipe the whole gang out?" Guido asked.

Kian nodded, "Yes, the whole gang was wiped out. I have all the bodies in the chest." He said, pointing at the chest.

Guido pondered for a while, "I’ll grab the rewards, and then we can go through everything." After saying that, he left the room.

A while later Guido, Kian, and some other guild members were carefully going through all the corpses to check if they really did wipe out the whole gang.

After a couple of hours of checking, they had come to the end, and Kian looked at the gold coins, a smile on his face.

Guido and the other guild employees were all surprised; this gentleman had really wiped out this whole gang that had been plaguing the capital for the last couple of months. They were notorious for their cunning, and no one had found their hideout yet.

But the man in front of them had not only found the hideout; he had also completely wiped them out.

"Thank you for your service." Guido earnestly said the guild had been having a lot of problems with this particular gang, and now they had finally been dealt with.

"You are welcome. I also brought the adventurer card of the one who annihilated the bandits. He asked me to deliver the chest because he had other things to do." Kian stated, taking out the adventurer’s card from his pocket and placing it on the table.

Guido grabbed the card and took a closer look, wanting to know who this so-called adventurer was; when he saw the name, he almost fell out of the bench.

’A noble did all that? And he said that he had annihilated them?’ He thought, but he snapped out of it quickly.

"Did he want to raise his rank by doing this?" Guido asked because the guild card was of the lowest F rank.

Kian nodded, "Yes, he found it a hassle to rank up the normal way, so he decided to do it this way." A helpless smile spread across his face.

Guido also just smiled, handing the card to one of the employees that stood behind him, and whispering something in his ear, the employee left the room promptly.

"We will handle it; now the rewards. They had large bounties on their heads, so a total of 2500 gold coins are yours." Guido said, looking at the large amount of gold coins stacked on the table.

Kian looked surprised at the large amount; the leader might have been skilled, but the knights could have easily taken him down, and the rest were pretty much useless.

Guido sighed, "I know it might seem like a lot. But they had been dodging capture for months with clever tactics, and with their base stationed in the wilderness, the knights couldn’t just leave for long periods of time to look for a single group of bandits," he explained.

Kian nodded in understanding, placing all the coins in the chest. Then he handed the man two letters, one with the Meskevela crest on the back and the other blank.

"Deliver the letter with the crest to the Meskevela territory with haste. The other one is for you to read." He said, holding the chest filled with gold coins.

"For me? Why would the young noble write a letter to me?" Guido asked perplexed; he had never even met this noble before, but now he wrote a letter for him?

"Just read it, then you will understand." Kian stated.

"Alright, I guess. The reward for the goblin extermination will be delivered shortly as well," he said, opening the letter without the Meskevela crest on the back.

Reading it slowly, he kept glancing at Kian while reading it; his expression changed from careful to furious.

"Tell me—what he wrote... is it true?" Guido’s voice was sharp, laced with disbelief.

Kian looked him dead in the eyes. "Does that matter? If you don’t comply with this simple request..."

Silence, Kian didn’t need to finish his sentence. He looked at Guido, waiting patiently for his reply.

"I will get to it; as for this other letter, it will be delivered with haste." Guido replied, sweat dripping from his brows.

He had almost made a grave mistake; the client this time wasn’t some startup adventurer; it was the son of a duke and possibly the greatest noble house of the empire.

"Good," Kian said, making himself comfortable.

"When will the payout for the goblins arrive? My lord has things to do."

Guido looked around, holding the hem of his sleeve, "It will arrive any moment now."

Right after saying that, they heard knocks on the door.

"Come in." Guido said immediately, heaving a sigh of relief; handling nobles was always troublesome; he had just forgotten it because most nobles don’t become adventurers.

The young man that entered was holding a small bag filled with coins; placing it on the table, he looked at Kian.

"Here are ten gold coins and ten silver coins. It was first a thousand and ten silver coins, but we have converted the thousand silver coins to ten gold ones for you." he politely said.

Kian looked at the young man, giving him a nod. "Thank you, that helps a lot. Now our business is done here, I assume?" He said, glancing at Guido.

Guido nodded, "Yes, have a good day. And don’t worry; I’ll take care of it immediately."

With that, Kian stood up, took the bag, put it in the chest, and left the room.

Guido leaned back on the bench, exhaling sharply.

"Is something wrong, sir?" the young man asked, seeing Guido act like that right after the esteemed guest left.

"Don’t worry about it. By the way, could you go and call Celia for me and tell her to come here right now?" he replied, a grim look on his face.

"Alright." The young man replied, wondering why he needed to call her; had she done something wrong? Or was it something else?
