Chapter 113: Chapter 113
The mages could fire a lot more spells as well than normal; after the first couple of rounds, normally the healers had to supply them with new mana, but this time they didn’t feel tired at all.
Amalia noticed this the earliest, but the only thing she could think of was the barrier the general had set up.
The same thing was happening at the front; all the smaller injuries healed at a pace visible to the naked eye, and the soldiers’ exhaustion was fading as well.
Like everyone was constantly being healed, supplied mana, and energized. And all this because of the multiple spiritual barriers Luan had put up.
The morale went through the roof; everyone kept slashing, piercing, and hurling magical spells at the monsters, and because the massive golems were holding up the monsters at the rear, they finally saw an end coming to the monsters that were trying to jump over the river.
In just a couple of hours, they had massacred double the amount of monsters; they needed multiple hours to exterminate them yesterday.
Luan nodded in satisfaction seeing the combined spiritual barriers have such a drastic impact on the situation, but still this was only the beginning, so he kept his guard up and tried to spare his body as much as possible.
The monsters in the back of the forest were all frowning at the sight in front of them; hundreds of thousands of ogres were all stationed next to each other, and all the way in the back stood a massive two-headed ogre the size of a small hill.
With a single look, all the ogres stood up and ordered the weaker monsters they had forced with them to all swarm the massive golems, and a couple of ogres left as well to quickly dispatch of the golems.
Their king wanted this fortress gone as fast as possible; it was, after all, a massive eyesore. After dealing with all the other monsters eyeing to become king of the forest, he finally had the time to deal with these pests.
After they had dealt with the largest portion of monsters, the golems had let through all the soldiers who were on high alert because the general hadn’t even cracked a single smile, like this was only the beginning of this brutal fight.
Dimitri also glanced at Luan, who looked to be spacing out, but when he carefully observed him, he saw Luan squinting his eyes as if he was looking at something, and when he followed it, he only saw small dots slowly becoming bigger.
But this time the quaking of the earth was much worse than this morning when the first wave hit. As shivers ran down his spine.
"Everyone, now the real battle begins!" He suddenly announced that after the small dots had gotten a little bigger, he could finally make out what they were, and it left every hair on his body standing up.
All the soldiers had solemn looks on their faces as they tightly grasped their weapons, also seeing the massive new wave of monsters that was rushing straight toward them.
But instead of panicking, they felt rather confident; after all, they first had to get through those massive golems that the general had formed.
Those were like a huge beacon of hope, rampaging freely across the battlefield. Squashing hundreds of monsters with every step and slam of their hands.
But Luan’s expression was rather grave; he saw the multiple ogres glaring at the golems. ’I can’t go help them. That many ogres is a problem,’ he thought, as multiple strategies he was planning to use turned obsolete the moment he saw all those ogres.
But the strange part was why they had only now decided to come out and deal with the golems. "Is someone ordering them? Or is it the one that created this world that’s making them come in waves?" he muttered.
If it was the former, that would be a massive issue and would mean there is someone with actual intelligence leading this massive wave of monsters. But if it was the latter, that was fine.
"I should always assume the worst case. So let’s say someone is leading all these monsters." Just that singular thought made sweat drip down his brows.
This was a seriously bad situation, even though there were still multiple layers of barriers, and the morale was high. Once those golems fell, reforming them would take massive amounts of spirit power, and even though he could let Mara do it, she was, after all, still a rather weak spirit.
All kinds of scenarios flashed through his mind while he was carefully observing the ogres’ charge straight at the golems. Blocking their attempts to crush the smaller and weaker monsters.
Every golem was now surrounded by four ogres, all casually holding a massive axe.
"Focus on the smaller monsters that the golems can’t stop anymore!" Luan ordered immediately after he saw what was happening.
Then the carnage continued, as hundreds of thousands of goblins, kobolds, and all kinds of hideous monsters jumped toward the multiple barriers.
But because there were multiple in place, Luan could swap them interchangeably and have the ones that were almost about to crack slowly recover inside the other ones.
Like that, thousands of monster corpses filled the river once more. And slowly more golems formed as they went to support the other golems surrounded by the ogres.
The ogres were insanely strong, blocking the golems’ full power attacks with relative ease.
"How?" When Luan saw that, his mind went blank. The ogres he had faced during the first wave definitely weren’t this strong.
What was the difference this time? As he was wracking his brain, he saw the ogres decimate the golems one by one. Even though Mara kept sending more and more blood toward them after their arms or legs were cleanly cut off by a single swing of an ogre.
Luan knew this strategy wasn’t feasible anymore, and he ordered Mara to stop it and collect all the blood and keep it with her.
