Chapter 112: Chapter 112

Dimitri glanced at Luan, who stood at the front in front of all the soldiers with a serious look on his face. After he saw that, he grasped his sword tightly, and after breathing in and out a couple of times, he turned his head and also stared at the incoming monster wave; the only thing he saw were hundreds of thousands of different kinds of monsters.

All of them rushing straight at the fortress while screaming and growling. Most soldiers were quivering in their boots.

Would they be able to survive this kind of wave? And even if they survived the current one, what would happen to ones that would follow? This was, after all, the third day in a row that a wave had appeared.

Did that mean there would be one every day? The soldiers nervously looked around, unsure of what to do. The morale was dropping rapidly, and while Luan felt it.

He couldn’t do anything about it right now. He had to focus to get the timing perfectly, or his whole plan would be wasted.

Then Vira sent him the signal, and with a grin on his face, he snapped his fingers once.

All the soldiers looked at Luan after they heard him snap his fingers. Dimitri and all the leaders as well. They hadn’t heard anything about this during the strategy meetings.

But suddenly something happened: from behind the weaker monsters, multiple gigantic blood-red constructs appeared out of nowhere.

"What!?" Everyone shouted, confusion spreading rapidly; some soldiers almost fainted, thinking these massive constructs would be attacking them as well. Others just closed their eyes like they accepted their fate.

They would all get wiped out today; even with the general here, they were powerless against those things.

Dimitri, on the other hand, started at the grinning general with a raised eyebrow. ’Why is he smiling if the situation just got a hundred times worse?’ he thought to himself.

Then another thought formed in his mind, ’If he is grinning like that, are they maybe not enemies but allies?’ Once this thought formed, he felt that it was probably more logical; why else would he wait and not jump straight in like the first wave?

Well, the wave was a lot worse, so maybe that also had something to do with it. Then it happened: those massive blood-red constructs started attacking all the monsters, using their massive bodies to squash multiple hundreds of monsters at once.

When they all saw that, everyone’s mouths were wide open for a moment before they all burst out in cheers.

"We can do this!" Luan suddenly shouted while pointing at the massive constructs. "I created those using all the monsters we have killed till now, so the more monsters we kill, the more of those will appear," he stated.

As everyone felt his words empower them like he was a true monarch, all the soldiers felt all their doubts vanish and were now looking at all the approaching monsters as if they were prey.

"Kill, and keep killing!" Luan shouted as he raised his sword up high in the air.

Everyone followed his example, and then around Luan, the spiritual guardians appeared as he, with a wave of his arm, formed the spiritual barrier once more.

This time, however, he placed multiple barriers on top of each other and tried to summon as many spiritual guardians as he could.

With sweat dripping down his forehead, he had summoned around twenty spiritual guardians and placed five spiritual barriers on top of each other.

"Stay inside the barrier and keep throwing magic spells and arrows at all the sword and spear wielders. Stand as close to the river as you can and cut down any monsters that try to jump over it!" he ordered, wiping the sweat from his brow.

Like that, the slaughter began. The mages threw one magic spell after another at all the approaching monsters, who, after being hit, screeched like banshees, but the soldiers were unperturbed about any of this.

It was a life-and-death battle; if they flinched at every death screech, they would die in no time. Gritting their teeth, they kept swinging their swords at the incoming monsters. The spearmen kept piercing the goblins before they could reach the barriers.

After seeing what would happen after the barrier shattered yesterday, they were even more determined to defend it as long as possible.

Arrows and magic spells kept flying toward the monsters, who, with no regard for their own lives, kept rushing at the humans.

Behind them the massive blood-red golems kept smashing monsters, absorbing all the blood that was flowing to become bigger and bigger.

All the way in the forest, multiple monsters were glancing at the carnage happening a couple miles in front of them.

All of them were smiling as they kept sending more and more monsters toward the puny humans.

Meanwhile, Luan was also throwing spells around, supporting everyone. If he saw somewhere being overwhelmed, he rushed over, and otherwise he was mostly focusing on throwing magic spells to preserve his physical condition.

Because he knew this was only the beginning, the stronger monsters at the end of the wave would be a serious problem if he expended all his energy right now.

Throwing water and stone spears one after another and even flooding the river, he was doing everything in his power to support his men as much as possible so they would hold as long as possible.

As hundreds of corpses fell into the river one after another, the water stayed perfectly blue as if these monsters didn’t have any blood in them.

But Mara was inside the river and was collecting all the blood, forming it into new golems continuously, and like that, more and more blood golems started appearing in front of the soldiers.

And with each new one appearing, morale was being raised as they enthusiastically cut down one monster after the other.

The mages were becoming more confident as well. With the general here, anything is possible, everyone seemed to think.
