Chapter 102: Chapter 102
Gritting his teeth, Luan kept sending out more spikes from the ground as he tried to take care of as many monsters as he could.
But he couldn’t stop all of them as hundreds of monsters arrived at the river; they all jumped straight in with no fear, as if they were controlled by a primal urge to kill.
The moment the soldiers saw the monsters jump, their anxiousness lessened significantly.
"It seems these monsters aren’t much after all," a young man said nonchalantly while holding a sword and a shield.
But not a second later he got smacked on the head by Dimitri. "Don’t you dare mutter nonsense like that; these are only the weakest. Stay alert and on guard at all times!" He shouted not only at the young man he had just smacked but at everyone around them.
The other division leaders did the same, and while the mages were tirelessly firing destructive spells, more and more monsters started to slip through as they jumped into the water one by one. The river slowly started filling up with monster bodies.
When Luan saw that he couldn’t relax, if the whole river was filled with monster bodies, that would mean they could just run across it toward his men. Every single one of those men was a valuable resource, so he had to take action right now.
As he merged with Vira, he formed two massive axes made out of pure energy, and he enforced his eyes with spirit power to look through the massive wave for the most threatening monsters.
Then he saw them: goblin shamans, trolls, and ogres. "I’ll have to get those," he muttered to himself, with a smile on his face.
Like that, he vanished from his spot, flying through all the monsters at such high speed he almost broke the sound barrier.
With both his axes stretched out, he cut hundreds of monsters in half while flying straight through toward his targets.
All the soldiers cheered loudly when they saw Luan take off. They knew he wouldn’t abandon them, so he must have found something. Amalia and her mage squad kept hurling spells toward the monsters, but the river was almost full, and that’s when the true battle would start.
The soldiers gulped, tightly grasping their weapons as they focused on the river that looked blood red instead of blue.
Meanwhile, Luan was covered in monster blood while he was rushing through the beast tide. He kept slashing and crushing every monster he passed by, but he didn’t care if this wasn’t the most efficient; he had to take as much burden off his men as possible.
After killing hundreds or even thousands of monsters, he finally arrived at the back of it, surrounded by ogres, goblin shamans, and trolls. Who were all glaring at him.
The massive ogres held hammers while the trolls weren’t holding anything, and the goblin shamans stood behind them with their staffs, chanting something Luan couldn’t understand, but he wasn’t worried in the slightest; after all, he had a trump card.
With a swing of both axes, he threw all the blood of them, using it to obscure the monster’s vision as he initiated his assault.
He rushed toward one of the ogres, who looked a little startled by all the blood that was flying around; he could barely make out where the small human was.
Luan swung his axe with all his might at the ogre’s torso, but contrary to his expectations, he barely managed to make a flesh wound.
"What?" he mumbled while immediately letting go of the axe and jumping back, seeing the ogre swing his massive club down with full force.
Bang!
A massive crater appeared in the spot where Luan had been standing a moment ago, as cold sweat started dripping from his forehead.
He thought about his objective of killing the ogre king and shook his head frantically, "Hell no, not happening."
Then multiple fireballs were hurled toward his head by the goblin shamans standing behind the ogre, but Luan just snapped his fingers and the fireballs disappeared.
The shamans looked at each other with confusion in their eyes, then that confusion turned into rage. How dare that mere human mock them like that!
Immediately after, they started chanting once more, but this time they were much more focused, and Luan had the feeling this time the spells weren’t going to be such basic ones.
"I’ll have to try and take them out," he muttered, glancing at all the ogres and trolls surrounding him.
But how should he get through all these monsters? His full-powered swing was barely able to chip the ogre’s skin.
Then an idea struck him; he turned around, now facing the trolls, while he summoned Mara and Torg, having them appear above him, and without needing to say a word, they instinctively knew what they had to do.
So the trio started their counterattack. Torg stomped on the ground, and hundreds of spikes shot up from the ground, impaling all the goblin shamans at once.
As tens of screaming goblin shamans fell lifelessly to the ground, the ogres turned around in surprise.
That human hadn’t even done anything. How could this have happened? They had no idea, but they were furious. They had been given this task by their king to demolish those puny humans, and now they were losing to a single one of them?
Primal roars were heard from all the ogres simultaneously as they grasped their hammers tightly and charged at Luan without a care in the world.
But after a couple of steps, they started sinking into the ground, and then water bubbles started appearing around their heads one after another.
Mara was controlling multiple water bubbles to make sure the ogres couldn’t breathe, and by transforming the ground into mush, they could barely move. With their breathing cut off, if they overexerted themselves, they would die even faster.
Luan, on the other hand, was cutting through the bodies of the trolls with ease. Contrary to the ogre’s insanely tough skin, trolls were more known for their regeneration abilities, so Luan kept cutting their bodies up with his massive axes to make sure they wouldn’t be able to counterattack.
