Chapter 101: Chapter 101

"Well, if you really don’t want to eat it, then I won’t force you. But don’t you dare spread your beliefs around. If people out of themselves refuse, that is fine; I won’t force anyone, but I don’t want you going around forcing your beliefs on others," Luan said, rolling his eyes.

He always despised religions, and this incident only intensified that, but he couldn’t just go around and forbid everyone from believing; that would only have negative effects.

The other division leaders all glanced at Dimitri, who was blankly staring ahead. Not saying anything, sometimes he raised his hands, but nothing came out of his mouth.

"Ok, let’s get back to the strategy to survive those beast tides. What do you all think about my basic strategy?" Luan inquired; he had wasted enough time talking about religion. The most important part is surviving; only after doing that would they be able to argue about if they wanted to eat monster meat or not.

The others looked at one another and nodded. "It sounds good, so should we tell the blacksmith to focus mostly on making spears and shields?" Amalia asked, her red hair flowing wildly because of the wind.

"Yes, but if any of you think of something—a new strategy or any new ideas—make sure to tell me. Any input is helpful, especially in desperate situations like these," Luan ordered.

They all kneeled and nodded their heads.

"Dismissed, but make sure you are alert at all times; we have no clue when the beast tides will happen."

With that, the leaders quickly left to continue training their division and telling the blacksmiths the new strategy the general was going to implement.

Luan sat down in a chair he quickly created with Vira, Mara, and Torg floating around him. Sighing.

"Let’s hope that that religion doesn’t screw me over too much. I do want to at least protect this fortress," he muttered, glancing at the forest.

The moment he looked at it, his eyes widened: hundreds of thousands of monsters. They were slowly leaving the forest and made their way toward the fortress.

"..."

He sat stunned for a moment before he jumped over the wall of the tower and, with the help of Mara, formed two massive water wings behind his back, flying straight down toward the ground.

While on his way down, he shouted inside the fortress. "It’s happening, everyone. Gear up and get out of the fortress, but no one should cross the river!"

The moment the leaders heard that, their hearts started skipping a beat. At first they had doubted the credibility of the general’s claim, but it seems he was right.

And sadly it was proven right after he said it. They didn’t have enough shields and spears yet, so they would have to improvise on how to implement the strategy Luan had told them about.

Dimitri started sweating profusely while grabbing all his gear, and followed by his division, he made his way out of the fortress as fast as he could.

Amalia and the other leaders followed suit right after him. After all the hundreds of soldiers and mages stood outside, Luan landed in front of them with a serious expression on his face.

"I’ve formed high walls at the back and some sides, so organize yourself so every opening is covered. I will take the front in front of the gates," he efficiently started ordering, and together with the captains, they all quickly stationed themselves.

Nervously holding their weapons, they all glanced at the massive wave of monsters that was rushing toward the fortress. Some soldiers could barely stay standing.

But with the general himself taking the front and fighting with them, they all felt more confident; he was, after all, an overwhelming fighting force comparable to hundreds of normal soldiers and even tens of mages combined.

Without him here, this fortress would have fallen long ago. The division leaders also glanced at Luan’s back with hesitant gazes. Even though they knew his prowess the best, taking such a huge beast head-on all alone while they focused mostly on defense. Could he do it?

Doubts started taking root in their minds as they all glanced at one another. The uncertainty is clear in their eyes.

Luan seemed to notice something in the morale of his men, as he took a deep breath in and then out. He dispelled the wings on his back and turned around, pointing his back toward the massive wave of beasts that was rapidly approaching.

"Don’t you all dare to give up!" He shouted, and behind him a massive illusory figure appeared.

It looked just like Luan, the only difference being its aura. Everyone felt the doubts in their minds being blown away.

"If it’s him, he will definitely be able to do it." This sentiment went through everyone’s minds simultaneously.

"That is better. Now remember this: we will never falter. They might have destroyed our country and even our homes. But we will never falter nor give up. So fight with all your might and take revenge for all the loved ones you have lost to these beasts. Kill, kill more, and keep killing until not a single one of them is left!"

Luan ordered, and his voice contained an empowering aura with every word that left his mouth. The morale of the soldiers rose, and they became more confident. Now when they looked at the incoming beast wave, they didn’t doubt they only saw thousands of animals that needed to be slaughtered.

Then Luan turned around once more, and this time he aimed this encouraging aura at the monsters, but instead of encouraging, he inflicted fear. As hundreds of the weaker goblins running in the front all stumbled, only to be trampled by the larger and stronger monsters running behind them.

When the soldiers saw this, their morale went through the roof; all of them started shouting while raising their weapons.

With a smirk on his face, Luan stomped on the ground as hundreds of earth spikes shot out of the ground, piercing monsters.
