Chapter 121: Questions [Christian POV]

Once they left, Liam came back over.

I continued to picture Leslie’s pained expression, trying to figure out why she would look at me like that.

"How do you feel?" asked Liam, looking over at me curiously.

"Liam. Who is she to me?" I asked, turning my head to look at him.

"Morgan? Your fiancée, you know that already," he answered, avoiding eye contact with me.

"You know I’m not talking about Morgan. Tell me, who is Leslie to me?" I asked again. I knew that he knew more than he let on.

"She’s your fiancée’s sister. What more do you need to know?" he replied, nonchalantly.

"Liam."

My words were cold and threatening. I didn’t like being held in the dark.

"I’m telling you, Christian, she’s just your fiancée’s sister. What more do you want to know?" he said with annoyance.

I’ll ask Zach later.

Liam’s reluctance to tell me meant that it was something important, but not important to me, but not to him. I gave up asking him and turned to look at the roses.

They brought me feelings of comfort and joy, and when I closed my eyes to inhale their scent, I suddenly pictured a stone bench.

Huh? Have I seen this before? It seems familiar, but I can’t remember where I’ve seen it.

I tried to dig deeper to try and remember other things about the bench and roses, but the sharp mental pain returned, causing me to give up.

I’ll figure it out later.

-

About an hour later, Zachary showed up with some food.

"Hey man! I’m sorry I didn’t visit earlier, Liam only just told me about your accident. I figured hospital food sucks, so I brought you something from the outside."

I looked at the greasy cheeseburger and fries in front of me, shaking my head internally.

Zach’s still the same as I remember.

"Did Liam tell you what happened? I lost my memories. I have no recollection of what happened these past few months."

"Yeah, he warned me over the phone not to tell you anything too shocking. But now I don’t know how to discuss Karl’s matters with you," he said with a frown.

"Karl? Who’s that?" I asked.

"Long story short, he’s a very sketchy man who works for the Patriarch of the Moresi family. You had me tailing him for a few weeks, and I can confirm that this guy is up to no good. But you suddenly called me a few days ago, telling me to get rid of him..."

I closed my eyes, trying to process all of the information he was giving me.

Why would I choose to get rid of such a good lead?

It didn’t seem like something I would do. My entire reason for getting tied up with the Moresis was to find evidence of their crimes, so why would I tell Zach to get rid of Karl?

Unable to come up with a reason, I had a choice to make. Do I trust my past self and continue with that plan? Or retract the order and have Zach continue to follow him?

There were so many questions that kept popping up one after another. I felt myself getting dizzy just from trying to understand the situation.

"Proceed as I instructed earlier. Although I don’t remember why I told you to do something so unexpected, there must have been a good reason."

Zach let out another sigh. "Fine, but I’ll tell you it hasn’t been a walk in the park. This guy is more slippery than an eel. He’s got contacts in all of the right places, too. It’s not going to be a quick and easy fix."

I wasn’t sure how the previous me would react to this, but the current me only saw it as more time to remember why I was getting rid of him in the first place.

"That’s fine. Also, tell me something. What was my relationship with the second daughter? Leslie."

I looked at Zach closely. He wasn’t very good at lying, so it would be very easy for me to tell.

"The second daughter? Why would you ask about her? She’s not really anything. The only time she made her presence known was at the fashion show where she was super hot," he replied, scratching his chin.

For some reason, I didn’t like him calling her super hot, but I didn’t detect any lies in his words.

Is she truly nothing more than Morgan’s sister?

I certainly agreed that she had a certain charm that her sister didn’t. And in my opinion, she was more attractive.

"Oh, she also works in your company."

Works for me? Why would I allow that? Then she’s clearly a planted spy...

The more information I got, the more convoluted the situation became.

Maybe Liam was right, I should just rest and recover. Forcing it clearly isn’t getting me anywhere.

-

"What I want now is for you to look into what happened to me. Everyone is saying I got into a drunk driving accident, but I don’t believe that. I need you to find out the truth."

Zachary nodded, "I’m already on it. It’s just too good a coincidence that this happened the night you were at the auction house. You must have figured something out."

"I agree. Go and figure out where I was at all times. I want a timeline of where I was at all times of the night. I want to know who I was with until the very end."

My eyes turned cold. Someone schemed against me, and whoever it was was not going to get away with it.

My mind floated back to Leslie.

Is she truly nothing more than just Morgan’s sister to me? But the way Zach talked about her truly doesn’t seem like she was involved with me in any way.

I decided to observe her more, especially at work. Her being placed in my company was a deliberate act by her father. That much I could understand without my memories.

Could she be behind my accident?
