Chapter 120: Wake Up 2 [Christian POV]
Morgan was beginning to annoy me. All she did was talk about herself nonstop, trying to fish for compliments.
She showed me the earrings she won at last night’s auction event.
Wow, these are the Sophia season launch pieces? This is much better than previous designs.
The blue sapphire teardrop earrings were made exceptionally well. I could tell that the craftsmanship was on a whole different level.
At least something went right at the event...
Mrs. Moresi pulled Morgan out of the room to get a flower delivery, leaving me alone with Leslie and Liam.
Leslie didn’t seem bothered about Liam’s presence and ran up to me, gently placing her hand on mine. Her eyes were filled with concern, and she looked me all over, trying to gauge the extent of my injuries.
I felt uncomfortable. Not in the same way that I felt when Morgan touched me, but I didn’t want her to see my injuries.
Isn’t she engaged? Morgan mentioned that she was engaged just now. Should she be touching me this intimately?
I felt the piercing headache return, so I quickly pulled my hand away from hers. But the moment I did this, she froze, looking at me like she was going to burst into tears?
Why?! Why is she looking at me like this?
Something inside of me wanted to scream. My stomach tied itself into knots while I looked at her, trying to understand why I was feeling all of this pain.
Is she the reason for my accident? I get a very strong reaction whenever I look at her.
"Christian, what do you mean? Did I do something wrong?" she asked with a trembling voice.
Her watery eyes and trembling hands made me want to scream. Everything in my mind was going blank, and I felt like I was losing control. The sharp pain in my head was so strong that I wasn’t sure how much longer I would be able to bear it.
She’s definitely related to something. No one else gives me such a strong reaction.
"Are we so familiar?" I asked, gritting my teeth.
I needed to know who she was to me. Why would this quiet girl who was engaged to another man act so intimately with me?
Liam glanced over at us with a frown. He wasn’t surprised to see her act like this, which told me that he knew something about her.
"Second Miss, may I speak with you outside for a moment?" he asked, pulling Leslie out of the room.
The pain subsided as soon as she was gone, but I only felt more internal turmoil.
Liam knows something, else he wouldn’t pull her out of the room like this. He’s most likely telling her about my memory loss.
But why? Who is she to me that he needs to go so far as to tell her about my memory loss? Not even Morgan realized that something was wrong...
My head continued to spin as I thought of possibilities. I couldn’t remember anything about her outside of the dinner party. Her reputation outside was immaculate. Everyone called her the most innocent and virtuous lady in the upper circle.
Would someone so innocent and virtuous care so much about a man who was already engaged? To her own sister, no less.
No matter how hard I tried to remember, I couldn’t.
A few minutes later, they both returned. The first thing I noticed was that Leslie’s eyes were all red.
She was crying? Why?
Liam excused himself to check on another patient, leaving the two of us alone in the room.
He must have told her something. Most likely not to force me to remember.
While I understood Liam’s professional medical advice, I had to know. She stood awkwardly in the corner, making the atmosphere in the room very stiff.
With a sigh, I looked at her. "I’m sure Liam informed you of my memory loss. Forgive me if I’ve forgotten something, but as my fiancée’s sister, don’t feel too awkward around me. Feel free to take a seat."
Instead of comforting her, like I had hoped, she looked like I had stabbed her instead.
Did I say something wrong? Why does she look so hurt?
I watched her walk over to the chair in the corner of the room and take a seat. The entire time, she avoided making eye contact with me.
Why do I feel so uneasy? She looks so hurt...
I continued to look at her while forcing myself to remember. The pain was excruciating, but I continued to push through the fog, hoping to clear anything away.
All I knew was that I was missing something. Something very important.
-
"Who exactly are you to me?" I asked after nearly reaching the point of passing out. The pain in my head was so great that the surroundings started to look blurry.
She froze in her seat before finally looking up at me. Her eyes were wide, and they looked at me with a very conflicted gaze.
I could clearly see the internal struggle she was going through.
Was it something so unbelievable that she couldn’t just tell me?
What could the sister of my fake fiancée be to me? She’s a Moresi, so I doubt that we were actually that close. My only reason for getting engaged in the first place was to get information to destroy their family.
But the way she struggled to say anything told me it wasn’t as simple as an acquaintance.
Just tell me!
I urged her in my mind. It was beginning to drive me mad. Her beautiful hazel eyes trembled, while her mouth opened and closed several times.
"I...I’m..."
Just as she was about to answer, the door swung open and Morgan walked in with Madame Moresi.
Morgan walked over carrying a large bouquet of flowers, placing them on the small table beside my hospital bed.
"Do you like them? I remember you told me that you liked the roses from our garden. I had the groundskeepers bring me some."
I like them?
I glanced at the bouquet, trying to find what about them that I liked. While I found all the flowers nice to look at, I never had a particular flower that I liked.
The blush pink roses were fully bloomed, looking very majestic. I looked at them closely, realizing that I felt a sense of warmth and...desire?
I glanced over at Morgan, giving her a small smile. "Yes, I do like these. Thank you very much."
There was a special meaning behind these flowers, but I couldn’t remember what. Either way, they gave me a warm feeling, so I wasn’t opposed to them being in the room.
-
After a few more minutes of chatting, Mrs. Moresi called her daughters to say goodbye and head back.
She had to practically drag Morgan out of the room and urged Leslie to hurry up. I turned my attention back to Leslie, trying to see if I could find anything else about her before she left.
As she walked out of the room, she turned to look at me one last time. The moment our eyes met, I could clearly see the pain she was feeling in her eyes.
There wasn’t anger or hatred, just hurt and sadness in its purest form.
