Secretly Mine -
Chapter 122: A Friendly Encounter
Chapter 122: A Friendly Encounter
The next day, I woke up with a headache. I couldn’t sleep at all last night after thinking about how Christian forgot about me.
The pain was still present, and I had no idea when it would go away.
"Second Miss, please get ready for Sunday service," the maid called out after knocking on my door.
I hummed in reply, still lying on my bed, looking at the ceiling with hollow eyes. I had no motivation to go anywhere or do anything; I only wanted to lie in my room for the rest of my life.
After a few minutes of not moving, I finally got up and began to get ready.
Maybe I can pray today. Pray that Christian recovers quickly and that he remembers me again.
I wasn’t sure if it was considered selfish to pray that someone remembers you, but I was desperate. Christian was my saving grace. Without him, my life had no meaning. I was only a pawn to my parents.
Without much thought, I walked over to my closet after showering and put on a very standard Sunday dress.
It was a mint green color and covered my arms and legs, appropriate for church. After putting it on, I walked over to my jewelry box to put some pearl jewelry on, but as soon as I opened the box, Christian’s gold chain greeted me, lying on top of the first note he ever left me.
Immediately, my eyes began to sting as tears began to roll down my face. It was all so perfect, why did it have to end so soon?
I didn’t even want to think about the worst possibility, the one where Christian never remembered me again.
Stop crying, Leslie. Crying isn’t going to help with anything!
I wiped away my tears, trying not to smudge my makeup across my face.

When we arrived at the Cathedral, the same scene that greeted me every Sunday greeted me once more. Men in suits chatting in groups, discussing recent events and business.
Their female counterparts were in their own circles, talking about marriages and fashion trends.
As soon as we stepped out, a group of ladies circled Morgan, asking to see her earrings up close. Her newly purchased Sophia earrings glimmered from her ears.
Though she paid way too much for them, they did look beautiful.
"You’re so lucky you’re engaged to Mr. Vittoria! He must have purchased those earrings for you!" one of the ladies in the circle swooned.
Morgan didn’t answer, only smiled, which gave the others the impression that Christian really did buy her the earrings. Only I knew that wasn’t the case at all.
Not wanting to hear his name, I decided to make my way into the Cathedral. The stabbing pain in my chest continued even after I sat down in my usual spot.
The silent and slightly dim Cathedral brought me a small sense of peace, helping me drown out my extra thoughts. I sat alone, calming myself until I felt someone sit down beside me.
"This is my favorite time here, too."
Lucas smiled warmly as he observed me.
"Is something wrong? You seem a little sad today," he asked with concern.
I looked down at my hands, unsure of how to answer. On one hand, I didn’t want to bring it up, but on the other, I wanted someone to talk to.
"You’re right. I do feel a little sad, though I’m unsure of how to explain it," I finally replied.
He nodded and didn’t probe further.
"I know we only recently met, but I’m a very good listener. If you ever feel like you have something you need to get off your chest, I’ll be happy to listen," he said, flashing me another warm smile.
His words felt like a gentle hug, one that I needed so badly.
I nodded but didn’t have the words to reply. Even if we talked, I wasn’t about to spill my secrets about my secret relationship with Christian.
Noticing my silence, Lucas looked at me gently. "Would you like me to leave you alone for a while longer? There are still a few minutes before everyone begins coming in."
"No. Please stay," I said.
The feeling of being alone was what I hated the most. Lucas was kind and warm. His presence here made me feel like I wasn’t alone.
He smiled brightly at my response and sat up straight. He was well-mannered and kept an appropriate distance the entire time.
"Say, Leslie, how would you like to go out after today’s service? I found a nice spot that I think you might like."
I hesitated, unsure of what to do. I didn’t want to agree to a date, but the other option was going home...
Lucas saw my hesitation and let out a small laugh, "Please don’t overthink anything. I simply wish to take a walk with you. My goal is to cheer you up a little."
I blushed slightly, embarrassed that he saw right through my concerns. "In that case, I will happily go with you."
"That’s great. I’m sure you’ll love this spot. I’ll go tell your parents so that there aren’t any issues," he said, standing up.
"Thank you," I replied with a soft smile.

After the service, everyone walked out to the parking lot to head back home. Only I stayed behind with Lucas.
My parents agreed to Lucas’s request, which wasn’t surprising to me due to his ties to the Bishop.
"Ready?" he asked, looking down at me.
"Mhm, ready!" I smiled.
Lucas led me over to a small side parking lot where his car was parked. "It’s not far away, but it still requires a car to get there. Don’t worry, I’m a good driver," he said, opening the passenger side door for me.
I was surprised to see him driving such a nice car. It was definitely an imported luxury vehicle and fit his bright personality perfectly.
The car itself was all white, but the interior was made of natural leather, bringing warmth into the car.
Though I wasn’t familiar with the brand, I knew that this car was considered a top-of-the-line luxury vehicle.
