Rosie's Games
Chapter 536 536: Answers

He nodded. Lucas and Belisarius did not know that she reincarnated in the past, at least at that time. They assumed she had used an item related to the goddess. Because of that, the goddess's soul transferred into her body.

But what if it was different?

What if the Goddess Soul was already within her since she was born? In her past life, they never met, and so she suffered and died. However, the soul inside her was really powerful—powerful enough to turn back time.

That would drastically change everything that Lucas knew. First, Lucas thought the reason why he was able to easily suppress the soul of the goddess was because the soul inside her was weak in the first place. But what if it was because the soul simply exhausted itself in the process of turning back time?

What was meant to be will always be.

What if they were meant to meet and stay together? What if the goddess was meant to be reborn again, and he was meant to die?

He stared at her face. He knew that she realized the same thing. "Do you think… do you think that what was inside me was not simply a fragment of her soul but all of it?" Rosalind asked.

"There is no way to tell," Lucas was honest.

"How was she able to gain the power to turn back time? I mean… I mean, I—" Rosalind swallowed. "I am slowly seeing her memories, and I saw her use her emotions to attain more power.

But… how could a human handle that much power inside her body?" She saw that woman lose control of her abilities but she never understood why she was able to handle so much power inside that body of hers in the first place.

The demons claimed that they could not use a normal human body as a vessel because they were so feeble. If a human is indeed feeble and weak, then how did the goddess handle the power that she possessed?

"It was because she was not simply a human," Lucas uttered. "No humans would be able to survive that."

"If she was not—"

"She was the daughter of the demon emperor…" Lucas uttered. "Not even Belisarius knew that."

"The goddess was…"

"A demon herself." He confirmed. "Half-breeds are considered rare. However, they are stronger than most demons and all humans. They can handle elements and dark magic, especially when trained. She had the body of a half-demon, yet she refused to accept the fact that the demons that she hated the most, those things that destroyed her life, were just like her."

Rosalind frowned. Even if she had successfully suppressed the soul inside her, she could still feel a very distinct hatred against the demons. It was such a heavy burden, a heavy emotion.

"So… you and her…"

"Were friends… and later we discovered that we… we were siblings, at least half-siblings. She was born from a human mother."

Rosalind's eyes widened. Siblings!? They were siblings?

"You have to understand that we did not know we were siblings when we met. And in the realms of the demons, marrying a sibling is not a sin. Many demons would choose to procreate with their sibling to produce a better offspring, a stronger one."

"Belisarius said that—"

"I loved her," Lucas nodded. "It was the truth. I indeed loved the woman that I met before the world fell into chaos, before we discovered that she had the blood of a demon. But love is not enough to sustain a relationship. Belisarius said I became selfish and that— that is real. I wanted more of us, a relationship, a forever with her.

Belisarius was not lying."

Rosalind said nothing. His words seemed to echo in her head. While his confession did not actually hurt her, she could still feel something inside her body boil from both anger and irritation. She immediately concluded that this was the goddess's soul.

"That woman… looked a lot like me," Rosalind said.

"Yes."

"Do you see me as her?" she calmly asked. In the end, was she a replacement?

"No."

"And why is that?" Rosalind asked.

"Because…" he turned his body towards her and tucked a loose strand of her hair behind her ear. "Because you are not her. You did remind me of her, but when you started acting differently, I realized that you two are different people. After all, living a long—long life does give you a bit of wisdom."

"You do understand if I would doubt your words, right?" she asked, finally voicing out what she had in mind. She, or at least her soul, is no longer that of a young woman. She was not someone who would hide her thoughts and allow herself to overthink things.

"I know. There is no reason for you to believe me."

"Killing me would benefit you," Rosalind uttered.

"If killing you would benefit me, then… why do I need to lie to your face? Do you think I do not have the ability to kill you?"

"I—" Rosalind was at a loss for words. Indeed, he had a valid point. However, she and Belisarius did not know the specifics of this curse. The Goddess was not a fool, either. It would be possible that she included some things that would prevent him from personally hurting the goddess.

"You are frightened…" Lucas took a step back as realization sank inside him.

"Is there any reason why I should not be scared of you?" she asked.

He was physically stronger. If he wanted to, he could practically end her life in seconds. He was far more brutal, and the doubts in her mind were slowly spiraling out of control.

He said a word. Instead, he just stared at her, studying her expression. She bit her lower lip and lowered her head. She knew he had been protecting her from the start, and she was not going to ignore that.

"You are slowly remembering things…" he said. Surprisingly, there was no disappointment in his voice. She lifted her head and stared at him. Instead of anger, she could only see calmness in those eyes. Calmness and… something warm and gentle. "I will give you time to remember."

"What do you — " Before she could finish her words, her gaze already turned hazy, and the next thing she knew she was already in Wugari, in their room, alone.

"Lucas?" she called out, yet she did not receive any answer. "Lucas!"
