Rosie's Games
Chapter 535 535: You

Rosalind stared at the fireplace not too far away from her. In just a few hours, the meeting between the seven families was going to start, yet until now, Lucas was nowhere to be seen.

She could not feel him in the estate. She was starting to wonder where he was now.

Was it possible that he knew about her meeting with Belisarius?

No.

That seems… She closed her eyes and thought about Belisarius's words.

Despite the fact that she knew a part of those might not be true, she could still feel her heartache. Was it logically possible for her to feel something like this despite the fact the possibility that they were all lies?

No.

Logically, her first response should be to ask more questions, to talk to Lucas, and to clear things up.

She was not naive enough to make decisions based on some temporary emotion.

She was not a young child or a teenager, for crying out loud.

Yet…. Here she was.

A sigh escaped her lips. For a few seconds, she thought she felt some movement inside the room and opened her eyes to Lucas staring at her. "You are here…" Rosalind smiled.

"You look troubled…"

"I—"

"You talked to him," Lucas interrupted her.

"Yes," she is not going to hide this from him.

"And you are here to ask more questions?"

"Are you going to tell me the answers to those questions?" she asked. Without saying anything, he grabbed her hand pulling her up, so she would stand in front of him.

Then he held her waist and the next thing she knew, they were already back in that void with beautiful flowers.

Almost immediately her mood improved.

She stared at the countless flowers before her. "If your intention is to make me feel better, you already succeeded," she said, her tone light.

"What do you want to know?"

"Did she curse you because of the humans?" she asked.

"Yes. She wanted to save everyone. I do not want her to use her body and act like a heroine in their story." He looked at the flowers, his hand that was still holding hers tightened. "The curse was for me to live alone, forever. The loneliness should be enough to make me realize how selfish my words were, living alone, watching the people that you love die."

"Except you never loved anyone else," Rosalind continued.

He softly nodded his head. "Except I never cared for anyone else."

So in the end, he never learned his lesson. He was still someone who would not burn himself to keep the village warm.

"Is that why you hated humans?" she asked.

"Humans are fickle. You give them an inch and they will ask for a mile. You save them once and they are going to expect you to save them over and over again." He turned his head towards her. "Do you think I am wrong?" he asked.

"I think you are right," Rosalind said. "But that might be the demonic liquid in my body talking."

"Did he tell you it is going to kill you?" he asked.

"Yes."

"He was wrong."

"Do you have any motive to keep me alive?" she asked. If she died then the soul of the goddess would die with her. Isn't that more convenient for someone who wants to live forever?

"The demonic liquid is going to kill normal humans, you are not one of them."

Rosalind said nothing. She knew she was not simply a normal mortal. Moreover, she underwent a rebirth. She experienced death once.

"Do you believe me?" he asked.

"What would happen if I continue consuming the liquid?"

"You will become a hybrid between a mortal and a demon," he answered.

"Just like you?" she asked.

"Yes, just like me."

Rosalind was not gullible. Just because this man is handsome and is quite good in bed, does not mean she was going to believe him. At the end of the day, this marriage is still considered transactional, no?

"If the Goddess comes back then…."

"Then my life would end," Lucas said. "It was my intention not to tell you about this curse when we met or when we got married. Are you going to listen to my reasons?"

Rosalind lifted an eyebrow. In fact, a part of her found this a little entertaining. "Were you expecting me to run away, get angry, and do something stupid that I would probably regret later?" she asked.

"Partly."

"This is not some cliché novel." She rolled her eyes. Perhaps, if she was but a normal woman her age, then she would act so emotional and do just that. What would you expect from someone who has yet to turn twenty?

But she was not that young. Perhaps, on the outside, Rosalind looked young, but she… the woman inside her had been through a lot!

"I intend to use you," Lucas said, his eyes never leaving hers. "You are someone who could use both the light and dark blessing, and I wanted to use you. I wanted you by my side and to take advantage of your hatred towards the seven families."

Rosalind lifted an eyebrow. She was not expecting this level of honesty.

"You must understand that I cannot intervene with the things that involve the humans. This was a part of the course. I cannot influence humanity, or I will only get weaker and weaker until I lose all the abilities that I have.

But the curse did not mention anything about using someone else to influence humanity, to ruin them, and destroy this continent." Finally, Lucas turned towards the beautiful garden. "It was simply another one of the selfish plans."

Rosalind's gaze turned complicated, and she was at a loss for words. She turned towards where he was looking. "Did something change?" she asked.

"You."

"Hm?"

"You changed."

"Pardon?"

"You are not someone… who cares about humanity anymore. At first, I wondered why you would say the things you said, and do the things you did. I wanted to understand. I thought you experienced something… terrible, something that changed you. I could not understand why someone your age would have such hatred inside you, a thick malice and anger that someone like you was not supposed to have."

"This confused me," he added. "Especially when I did not find out anything. The investigation came up empty, nothing."

"It was because of the rebirth…" Rosalind uttered. She changed not because of something that happened in this life but because of her past life. "In the past life… I was supposed to marry you but… I chose to marry someone else."

That was why they did not meet. That was why he remained unmarried.

In short… they were already destined to meet and have each other in her past life.

In that life, she was nice and naive and someone who would have done everything to save the humans. But someone intervened, and she married someone else and died a miserable death without knowing each other.

The story should have ended there, but she was reborn into the past and was given a second chance to redo her life.

"The reason… the reason why I went back in time…." She mumbled. It was because of the goddess's soul inside her body!
