Rosie's Games
Chapter 534 534: Why does it hurt?

Rosalind had expected to feel some sort of happiness once she cut off the thing that tied her with Jeames. She was wrong. When she walked out of the dungeon, she felt... nothing.

To be honest, her emotions surprised her. She was certain she did not feel any sadness or happiness. Right now, she could only feel numb. Did that make any sense? She shook her head as she inhaled a long breath.

Then she closed her eyes and welcomed the sun rays against her face. A smile appeared on her face.

"Did you do it?" Belisarius's voice entered her ears.

She immediately looked to her left where the man was. He was standing there, his back against the walls, his arms crossed across his chest.

"How was the aftermath?" she ignored his question. "Were you able to find out what relic the other Kingdoms used to close the other portals?"

"You did not answer my question," Belisarius seemed relentless as he stared at her face, observing her reaction.

"Did what?"

"Punish a man who did nothing wrong to you."

"You think it was unjust?" she asked. So, he was here because of Jeames? First, how did this man know she was even here and that Jeames was here?

"Hurting someone who did nothing wrong to you is unjust."

"Killing..." Rosalind corrected him with a smile. "Killing someone."

Belisarius's face turned ugly. Seeing this, Rosalind walked towards him.

"You are changing..." Belisarius uttered.

"Was it a sin?"

"Hurting someone—"

"You are starting to sound like a hypocrite," Rosalind interrupted his thoughts.

"The Goddess inside you would never hurt someone who did her no wrong."

"I am not the Goddess inside me," Rosalind stood just a few feet away from him. Their distance was enough for her to see his expression.

"It must be because of the demonic liquid. Lucas forced you to take it, did he not?" Belisarius uttered. "Did he forget to tell you that it would influence you? Change you into someone you are not?"

"I knew it would change me," Rosalind said. She was not that dumb. She had absorbed some essence produced by malice, regrets, and anger. How could it not change her? "I chose to do it." This was not exactly Lucas's fault, was it?

"Then I suggest you stop absorbing the liquid."

"And let the soul inside me come out?" Rosalind retorted.

"It is harming you. Your body might not be able to handle the changes, and you—"

"Will become like him..." Rosalind snorted.

"You knew nothing about the past, Rosalind. I suggest you—"

"Thank you for your suggestion." Rosalind took a step back. "I appreciate it."

Just as she was about to leave, she heard Belisarius ask, "Did he tell you why he did not want the Goddess to come out?"

Rosalind only stared at him in response.

"Did he tell you why he became like this? Why he hate the humans? Why he refuse to let her come out of your body?"

When Rosalind said nothing, Belisarius sneered. "I believe he forgot to tell you. A classic move from the dark lord himself."

The Dark Lord.

Rosalind let out a snort.

"The Dark Lord was the enemy that the Seven Families created to justify their actions," Rosalind uttered.

To be the heroes, they needed a villain.

What is more villainous than someone like Lucas? Someone who never cared about humanity? Someone who would kill without batting an eyelid?

"You really knew nothing about the past," Belisarius uttered.

"I do not need to know it."

"Even if it's the reason why he was letting you consume that black liquid even though it would harm your body?"

Rosalind pursed her lips. She wanted him to say more.

"The curse... the curse inside him will end once the Goddess is back," Belisarius said. "He and the Goddess... the one inside you used to love each other, but the Goddess loved the humans more. She sacrificed her emotions for the humans that she loved the most. Then she sacrificed her body and soul to create the barrier.

However..."

Belisarius made a deliberate pause.

"Before she did this, she wanted to make sure that she would not meet Lucas again. She cursed him for his greediness. She gave him immortality that would only end once the Goddess awakens. This was the reason why he did not want you to awaken the goddess."

Rosalind frowned, but she managed to maintain her silence. "Did you really think it was because he liked you for who you are?" Belisarius uttered.

Again, Rosalind maintained her silence. So, Belisarius continued. "The only thing that he cared about is himself. He does not care about anyone else aside from himself and the woman that he used to love. When the woman that he loved sacrificed herself for the humans, Lucas started hating the humans. He did everything to sabotage the humans, and this was why she—the goddess cursed him."

Rosalind pursed her lips, her gaze turned complicated.

"You can choose not to believe me," Belisarius uttered. "But I believe the Goddess inside you knew what really happened. Tap into her memories and you will know. You will know everything."

"What do you really want to accomplish, Belisarius?" Rosalind asked.

"I want you to listen to your heart and stop consuming that poison, the black liquid. It would kill you."

Rosalind only shook her head in response, her mind filled with Belisarius's words. "If — " she swallowed as she met his eyes. "If I was the woman from the past life... I would have believed you."

"What?" Belisarius frowned.

Again, Rosalind shook her head. She does not intend to say more words. She slowly turned around and walked away from him.

His revelation might just be true.

But... who cares?

Not her.

No.

Not her.

However, just before she vanished, a tear suddenly fell from her eye.

From the very start, she knew that Lucas was using him and she was using him. This was... a transaction, to say the least. This was something that would benefit both of them.

So... why does it hurt?

Why does it feel like someone punched her chest from the inside?
