Rosie's Games -
Chapter 529 529: Turith 2
A loud explosion that filled the air was accompanied by the smell of sulfur and blood. Wails, growls, and now, the demons' screams echoed along the shoreline.
When they saw the Duke of Wugari easily defeating these demons, the knights, who had been losing hope, found renewed strength.
They brandished their swords and began to attack the demonic creatures. The battle intensified, but the Duke's arrival seemed to inspire the once-hopeless knights to fight back.
This change shifted the battle dynamics. Before long, everyone watched as the portal started to shrink as if the Duke's presence frightened it.
It did not take too long before the portals closed.
Strong winds created larger waves as the demon bodies fell into the sea, one by one. The demons perished.
Soon, the chaotic shoreline found the peace and silence they had longed for in the midst of the chaos. The knights, tired and bloodied, looked at the Duke standing by the shore. Then, one of them started shouting.
"Hail the Duke! Hail our savior!"
No one knew who started it, but the other knights soon joined in, and their voices filled the air.
"Hail the Duke! Hail our savior!"
"Hail the Duke! Hail our savior!"
"Hail the Duke! Hail our savior!"
Over after the other, knights and warriors and even the brave citizens who were there to fight and help kill the demons started shouting the Duke's name.
Hearing this, Rosalind couldn't help but smile inwardly. As much as she wanted to celebrate, she knew she had to hurry.
This time, it took her less time to actually close the portal. However, it was taking a toll on her.
Rosalind was starting to feel the exhaustion.
Her body was trembling, her head aching as if a hammer was pounding on it.
Yet, she was not here to start something and give up.
She looked at the Duke, who also seemed to be staring at her from afar. Then she nodded, and in front of everyone, the Duke vanished.
"Why are you willing to burn yourself to warm everyone else?" the Duke appeared next to her.
"Am I burning myself?" Rosalind smiled. She met his gentle eyes. This was not the eyes of the man who slaughtered thousands of demons just a few seconds ago but the eyes of a man who cared- the eyes of someone who cared about her.
"I would never tell you what to do but to see you suffer for the humans-"
"I am fine." Rosalind smiled at him as he held his arm. "The past will not happen again." She knew what he was thinking, and she was quick to assure him that whatever happened in the past would never happen again.
He frowned but said nothing. Instead, he pulled her into his embrace and the two of them vanished as if they were never been there in the first place.
On this day, no one will forget how the Duke of the North arrived to save everyone and left without saying another word. There were no fanfare, parades, or rewards. The Duke came, helped, and then left without uttering a word. Everyone believed the Duke didn't expect recognition and was simply there to help.
However, this scene didn't just happen in Turith, but also in other empires such as Laimor and Sloryn, and even Rakha Kingdom. In just one day, the Duke's name resonated throughout the continent. He was called the savior, the one who saved everyone from the demons.
"AH!" Ena Thun's voice was followed by a loud crash. Ena Thun's frustration boiled over when she heard the news about what the Duke had done. She began to wreak havoc in her study, aggressively knocking books off her table and sending them tumbling to the floor. She then swept her hand across the table, shattering a glass and spilling wine in the process.
"Your Blessedness… " One of her servants called out.
"Out! Everyone out!" Ena hissed. Almost immediately, the servant who gave her the news ran out of the room, leaving Ena alone.
"That Duke shouldn't have had the capability to close a portal!" Ena uttered. That man ruined the plan that Ena's ancestor created tens of years ago! He destroyed everything! Ena expected the carnage to last for at least a few days! It would have caused chaos and confusion! The number of people who would have died would have multiplied, and they would have achieved their goals.
In the end, they could have used this to summon an even bigger portal, enough to break the Barrier. Then Ena would have everything she wanted.
But no. That damnable duke had to ruin it!
"Calm down…" a voice echoed behind her.
"Calm down?" Ena hissed, fury boiling inside her. The only thing she wanted was to end that Duke's life. "You want me to calm down?" she turned and faced the large mirror behind her. "After what happened, you still want me to calm down?"
"What has happened has already happened. Your people call it stress. What's the point of stressing over something that's already done? Isn't there a saying on this human continent? 'The milk has been spilled.'" The voice continued.
Ena glared at the shadow that appeared in the mirror. The shadow transformed into that of a person's body. Soon, a cloaked individual walked out of the mirror.
"The Lord is waiting for a body…" The man behind the cloak uttered. "Should I expect it anytime soon?"
"The plan has failed, and your only concern is a body? If the plan continues failing, if that duke ruins all of our plans, do you think the Lord can walk into this place without killing himself?" Ena frowned. The existence of a power beyond what she could imagine made her cautious. She had been doing everything secretly to avoid attracting attention.
This was why no one knew what she was doing, not until that demon, Maledrax made a mistake.
"I will take care of that Duke…" the man uttered, his voice chilling. "As for you, I need you to do something..."
"What is it?"
"I want you to summon an even bigger portal."
"Didn't I just—"
"That's the only thing that could reveal the identity of the one capable of closing the portal—the real one."
"The real one?" Ena frowned. If it wasn't the Duke, then who is it? Who has been ruining her plans all this time?
