Chapter 89: Destroying the rescue squad

As soon as she saw a student being attacked by a member of the rescue squad, Morrigan’s blood boiled. She really hadn’t expected Amanda to go this far, nor that her allies would do as she commanded.

Seized by rage, she advanced and launched a <Fire Torrent> towards her enemy, forcing him to step back and saving Sophia.

The blonde, reacting extremely quickly to the situation, turned her gaze to her savior and quickly noticed who it was.

"Answer me," she demanded, her voice utterly cold. "Why are you attacking a student you were supposed to protect?"

"I was just following orders..." The man tried to defend himself with a final breath, failing to give a clear answer.

"And the simple orders of a traitor outweigh your duty?" Morrigan lessened her grip slightly, calming herself a little. "What was your purpose in joining the rescue squad?"

Without giving the man a chance to respond, the redhead allowed her mana to gather in the palm of her hand. A moment later, she unleashed a powerful blast of energy, obliterating the man’s head.

The lifeless body fell to the ground with a dull thud as it collided with the dirt.

Morrigan simply decided it wasn’t worth continuing the conversation. She didn’t believe there was anything useful she could have learned from him.

Finally, the hatred disappeared from her gaze, replaced by concern and kindness. Then, she turned to face the blonde girl who had collapsed on the ground.

Morrigan knelt down gently, moving closer to Sophia, and with a warm smile, she asked:

"How are you feeling?"

"You don’t need to worry about me," the girl said, standing up.

Normally, she would hate pushing her own body to its limit like that. She would prefer to just stay back and observe things, but in that case, she had no choice.

"I can heal myself," just as she said that, a soft light enveloped her body. "More importantly, the others are also being attacked, we need to hurry, otherwise things could get very bad."

"Don’t worry and just follow me, we’ll save everyone," Morrigan reassured Sophia, then pulled out of her pocket an item that looked like an extremely old and worn compass. It was a convenient item that an explorer had found in the cave.

Simply put, that object always pointed to the largest nearby source of mana. And it could differentiate between the mana of a human or a monster.

Obviously, the place where several students were gathered, fighting against other powerful opponents, would be the place with the highest concentration of human mana nearby.

The compass didn’t give a perfect route, but with it, they at least had an idea of where they needed to go.

And with that in mind and not wanting to waste any more time, the redhead held Sophia like a princess and quickly ran in the direction the students were.

The blonde girl wasn’t particularly fast, especially compared to Morrigan, so the woman chose to simply carry the student to not waste any more time.

And soon, the two arrived at the chaotic battle scene that was taking place between the students and their tormentors.

Everywhere, it was possible to see students desperately fleeing from beasts that terrorized the camp.

Most of the weaker monsters didn’t have the courage to even try to face the woman, so they began to retreat almost desperately.

The desperate flight of those beasts distracted the more powerful monsters for a moment, while the students’ spirits were filled with confidence.

"I’ll be clear, you cowards can surrender now, or die!" Morrigan roared once more.

Then she advanced in an instant to where Alden was being attacked by several beasts and, in a flash, enveloped them all in infernal flames, making them scream in agony.

But to make her threat even more powerful, the woman made her mana dance violently.

Then, in an exaggerated display, she annihilated a huge monster with a <Supernova>, leaving only a trail of destruction behind.

And if there was any doubt that she had the capacity to maintain her threat, those doubts were shattered by her brutal display of power.

Furthermore, Sophia quickly reassumed command of the students, helping them reorganize.

At the same time, she healed multiple allies at once, completely turning the tide of the battle.

And, in a few moments, it became clear that there was no way to win that fight.

The first to surrender was Sherazade. She had already failed in her mission anyway, and the woman would do anything to survive at that point.

Not only because she wished to live, but because she wanted to fight at least one more time against Davi before her death.

Wein, who had always been fearful, was the second to surrender. He knew there was no hope of continuing that fight after the situation had reached such a tragic point.

Surprisingly, the Belfort family member who was among them chose to simply commit suicide. And a huge explosion caught everyone by surprise when he made his own mana combust.

He was the leader of the group and the one who issued direct orders from Amanda. And not wanting to betray his boss, he took a rather desperate action.

The rest of the opponents simply surrendered in that situation, understanding that there was nothing to be done.

Therefore, only one problem remained to be solved: Davi.

The boy had disappeared; more specifically, he had been teleported away by Wein’s power, so Morrigan immediately approached the man and questioned where Davi was.
