Rise of the Harem King
Chapter 88: A perfect creation

Chapter 88: A perfect creation

Davi’s devastating strike had completely destroyed the upper half of his enemy’s body. Yet, even so, when the intense light faded, the boy noticed that his enemy was slowly regenerating.

A great amount of mana was concentrating around the beast, which, somehow, had not died.

"What kind of monster is this? Could it be..." the boy murmured, as terror spread across his face.

The only explanation he could think of was that this artificial beast had been created without a core. In other words, its entire body was theoretically its core.

There were three theoretical ways to create monsters. The most common method was to use living carcasses and simply modify them, but it wouldn’t be possible to create such a powerful beast that way.

Besides, if that were the case, the monster would have definitely been defeated by the strike Davi had delivered.

The second method, also widely used, was to simply create an artificial body, similar to that of a golem. However, this required a mana core that controlled the body and kept it alive, destroying it would result in the beast’s death.

But what if the artificial monster didn’t have such an obvious weakness? What if it were possible to spread the magical circuits that kept it alive into thousands of mini-cores scattered throughout its body?

What if the monster’s very mana became a form of dispersed core?

Well, that was the theory that had drawn countless researchers to the field. However, no one had ever succeeded in achieving it.

Some promising prototypes had been developed, but that was all.

Something like this went far beyond anything Davi had ever seen or read about.

It was truly impressive...

It was absolutely terrifying.

The boy took a deep breath, this was not the time to be impressed. Much less the time to be terrified by his enemy’s power.

He needed to calm down, analyze his situation, and quickly think of a plan. After all, at least he had the advantage that regeneration wasn’t instantaneous.

First, if Wein had indeed managed to create a perfect monster without a core, probably the only way to defeat it would be to destroy its entire body at once... Or perhaps just exhausting its mana would be enough?

"Damn, I should have studied more about this..." The boy muttered to himself, but the truth was that even an expert would have difficulty giving a precise answer.

Even Wein wasn’t absolutely sure what his beast’s limits were.

But what was really important was that all of that applied if the creation was perfect, but there wasn’t the slightest chance that was the case.

Not even the greatest genius of all could be that far ahead. Probably this creation isn’t finished. In other words, it must have some kind of defect, Davi thought, trying to calm down.

The ideal solution would be to just keep cutting the monster without giving it time to regenerate and keep testing various things until he managed to kill it.

However, Davi simply didn’t have enough mana to do that, so at that point, his best option was simply to flee.

That being said, it would be a problem if the boy lost that beast and it ended up going where the students were. In that sense, the ideal solution would be to lure it to a place where it couldn’t cause problems.

"The temple..." Then an idea crossed the boy’s mind.

By closing his eyes, he could still feel the presence of the lands that belonged to Haru’s race. And if he approached that place, he could borrow the girl’s power.

In fact, he didn’t even need to go all the way there; if he simply got close enough, it should already be possible to do that. Therefore, he needed to lure his opponent there.

"Roar!" Then an angry roar echoed, and turning towards the source of the sound, Davi noticed that the beast had already regenerated.

Davi watched cautiously as the monster, now regenerated, slowly rose before him, while roaring menacingly.

However, something was definitely wrong. The beast’s body was deformed, as if its muscles, once firm and symmetrical, were visibly misshapen, with parts of its body thinner or stretched too much, creating a grotesque and incomplete appearance.

The beast had lost the fur on its upper body, and scars were visible all over its skin, the result of accelerated regeneration.

Its jaw was misaligned, and one of its eyes looked a little duller than the other, and its gaze didn’t have the same power as before.

Luckily for the boy, just as he had hoped, this was not a perfect creation. And a regeneration of that scale would naturally result in significant problems.

Even for magic, recreating complex biological structures from scratch was almost impossible. Therefore, defects were almost inevitable.

That being said, the beast was still able to move quickly to attack the boy, who only dodged for an instant.

Clearly, the monster was much slower than before, but the problem was that the completely exhausted boy also couldn’t move with the agility he had shown earlier.

Still, he used the rest of his strength to unleash a <Fire Storm>, which was much less impressive than the first.

Still, the sea of fire delayed the enemy for a moment. And, taking advantage of the opportunity, the boy began to move away, moving quickly through the cave while trying to lure the creature to the place he had in mind.

The monster once again managed to get rid of the fire impressively and seemed to have taken almost no damage. Despite being weaker, that beast’s resistance remained annoyingly high.

Immediately after, the monster advanced with blind hatred, trying to kill and destroy its prey. In its uncontrollable rage, it couldn’t contain its power and destroyed everything in its path.

However, to the beast’s frustration, Davi always managed to maintain a safe distance, calculating his steps with precision. It was clear the monster would not be able to actually hit his target if things kept being like that.

There was even a point in all this persecution, in which the boy even had to slightly decrease his speed to ensure that the monster didn’t lose sight of him.

In fact, the beast was able to smell him from an impressive distance, but the boy didn’t know that. Therefore, he tried to stay within the monster’s line of sight.

And his plan to lure it seemed to be working perfectly, until upon turning left into a corridor he didn’t recognize in the cave, he unexpectedly came face-to-face with a dead end.

Seriously? the boy thought, his heart racing. He could feel that he was very close to the temple now; he could even feel Haru’s power slightly spreading through his body.

However, his luck was truly the worst possible, as his path was blocked.

To worsen his situation, turning around, Davi noticed that the monster was only a few meters away, and the space between them was rapidly decreasing. There was no more time. The beast was already in full attack.

In a brutal move, the monster lunged at Davi with a force that seemed capable of crushing anything in its path.

Its enormous claws slashed through the air with a whoosh, and it hit the boy squarely, pushing him back with a brutal impact.

The only thing he managed to do was activate <Shield> in an attempt to reduce the damage. However, in any case, the blow was quick and devastating, and Davi felt a deep cut tear across his chest, the overwhelming pain almost making him collapse.

Still, the pressure of the blow didn’t stop there. The monster continued attacking, throwing the boy with all its force against the wall. Then, it landed another punch with all its might on the boy.

Thanks to this, that false wall that had been created centuries ago ended up cracking, and after receiving a third kick, the boy was thrown with brutal force into the temple.

His entire body was wracked with pain, and his vision was starting to blur, yet he was somehow still alive.

"Roar!" The beast roared strangely; it even seemed like it was trying to return all the boy’s taunts up to that point.

Is he really mocking me? the boy thought, impressed by the monster before him. It was more intelligent than he expected; however...

The boy stood up slowly, enduring all the pain that gripped his body, then a terrifying smile spread across his face.

"This fight ends here," the boy murmured with a weak voice, however his tone was full of confidence, as he could feel a little bit of power surge on his body, he had gotten close enough.

The beast responded by laughing, trying to show that it was confident, but it also couldn’t help but feel that something was wrong.

The monster knew that its prey should be finished, but something about that human’s gaze made it believe that things wouldn’t end there.
