Rise of the Harem King -
Chapter 75: Run for your life
Chapter 75: Run for your life
Sophia’s group had finished defeating the shadows that had been sent to deal with them a while ago.
After that, they had a small problem: Sylvia had disappeared. And Sophia was sure the girl had got lost during the fight, besides as the way into the temple was apparently safer, so she decided to go there.
It was truly strange and impressive that the temple connected two floors in such a manner, but unfortunately, the blonde wouldn’t have time to investigate it.
Carlos had summoned a creature that looked like a small bat with a large eye, capable of sensing the mana left behind by Sylvia.
Following the lead of this monster, the group of students moved quickly through the ancient structures.
Those who were calmer couldn’t help but admire the architecture of the place and wonder how something like that could have been created inside a rift.
In some of their minds, more terrifying theories began to take shape. Others simply commented among themselves about how impressive it all was.
But that peaceful moment didn’t last forever, as the group was suddenly attacked by golems. After all, those creatures had the duty of protecting the temple, even though there was nothing left to protect, as those who had created them had long since disappeared.
"Prepare for battle," Sophia said with a confident smile.
Following the blonde’s orders, the group of students got ready to face an enemy they had never seen before.
First, she commanded the professor, who was now forced to obey her, to attack those creatures head-on. The man had good resistance and was a skilled fighter, so he would be useful for testing the enemy.
Sophia intended to observe the golems carefully, analyzing their attack patterns and behavior while watching the professor fight. But in the end, none of that was necessary.
"I guess they’re not that strong..." Sophia murmured with a cheerful sigh. It was nice to fight easy enemies once in a while.
Even alone, the professor was managing to pressure the enemies. And once the other students joined in and began attacking, the monsters stood no chance.
Not long after, they encountered larger groups of golems that caused a bit more trouble. But with everyone working together in a coordinated manner, it was far from being a real challenge.
Besides, the golems seemed somewhat slow and even hesitant, a consequence of their incredibly long inactivity.
Because of that, the large group of students was able to wander through the lost labyrinth without much trouble, eventually reaching the chamber where Sylvia had met Davi.
Cain, who had noticed the students’ approach, disappeared from the place as fast as possible. His survival instincts were sharp, and he had no intention of dying so easily.
Sylvia, however, had not yet returned. So all that remained in the room was an altar, where the orb that had inexplicably drawn Davi once lay.
At the center of the altar, two flames burned vividly, representing the souls of Davi and Sylvia. But the students had no way of knowing what they were.
"Where is she?" one of the students finally asked, looking at Carlos.
Naturally, countless doubts flooded their minds. Carlos, in particular, struggled to understand how this was even possible, as Sylvia’s mana traces simply vanished at that point.
The only possibility he could think of was that she had been teleported somewhere, but even that didn’t make much sense.
"Guuuieee!" Carlos’s summoned monster suddenly cried out in pain, interrupting everyone’s thoughts.
The reason for this was that, while trying to observe its surroundings, it sensed a powerful mana explosion not too far from there.
"What happened?" Sophia quickly asked.
"I think someone is fighting not far from here."
"Who?" the blonde asked immediately.
"I’m not sure... One of them is completely unknown. The other one seems to be Davi, but I can’t say for certain."
Hearing that, the blonde quickly analyzed the situation and made her decision. She needed to check what was happening. That said, it wouldn’t be wise to put all the students at risk, besides, it was also important to continue searching for Sylvia.
"Have him show me the way to where the fight is happening," Sophia said, looking at the bat-like creature.
Carlos nodded and placed a hand on his familiar, transmitting his orders. At the same time, Sophia addressed the others.
First, she commanded the professor to follow her and chose another student to come along, one whose abilities would help them escape and relay the news to the others if necessary. Then, she instructed the rest of the students to stay behind, where it would be safer.
"You can explore this place, but be careful. I believe you’ll be safe here, and I’ll be back soon." After saying that, she turned directly to Carlos. "I’m leaving you in charge here for now."
With that, the blonde took off running, her two allies following closely behind as the bat led the way. It didn’t take long before they arrived at the massive crater connecting the temple to the floor where Sherazade and Davi had fought.
But before she even focused on the battle above, her gaze immediately fell on the countless monster corpses scattered across the ground. And amidst all that death, she recognized an ally.
"Alexia..." she murmured in shock, rushing toward the lifeless body before her.
Checking for a pulse, she confirmed what she feared, Alexia was dead. Even her mana seemed almost completely depleted.
Noticing this, Sophia bit her lip in frustration, praying internally that she hadn’t arrived too late.
Without hesitation, she raised her trembling hand and activated .
A soft, gentle light spread across Alexia’s motionless body, wrapping around her like a celestial veil. The shadows of death were forcefully pushed away as the girl’s essence was pulled from the abyss and brought back into the world of the living.
The air around them vibrated, a comforting warmth filling the space as the spell worked its miracle.
Then, with a sudden gasp, Alexia opened her eyes.
"Where... am I?" Alexia asked, trying to make sense of her surroundings. Then, her gaze finally settled on Sophia.
As she stared at the blonde smiling kindly at her, the memories of everything that had happened came rushing back, her fight against Sherazade, Davi arriving at the last moment, and...
"Did I die?" she finally reached the right conclusion.
"Yes," Sophia responded with a light smile. "Now, can you tell me what happened and how things reached this point?"
"I can, but first, we need to move." Alexia looked upward. "Davi is fighting up there, and we need to help him as soon as possible."
As soon as she said that, Alexia forced her body to stand. She still felt exhausted after being revived, but she had no intention of stopping anytime soon.
"You, go inform the others about this," Sophia instructed the student she had brought along. Then, she turned to the professor. "You’re coming with us."
Then using <Basic Air magic> Alexia created a typhoon of air, at the same time, the professor threw the two upwards. Thanks to that, the typhoon was enough to make them reach the top of that crater.
And at the exact moment the two arrived, David had used the rest of his strength to generate an explosion of mana. This ended up distracting Sherazade, who didn’t even notice the presence of the two.
Then her eyes turned to the scene before them. And before they could do anything, they saw David’s heart being pierced.
With the strike, the boy slowly lost his life, and he was only able to murmur in response:
"I’m going to kill you..."
Seeing this, Alexia couldn’t control herself and without asking the blonde’s opinion she aggressively advanced to attack Sherazade.
At the same time, Sophia moved quickly. First she used <Advanced Healing> on Alden, who despite being unconscious still seemed to be fine.
Then, she moved a little closer to Davi to ensure he was within range of her ability.
Unfortunately, the boy seemed to have already died, which meant she would have to use once again. This would leave her completely out of mana for any other abilities afterward, but there was no other choice.
"He was telling the truth," Sophia said. "The one who will take your life, without a shadow of a doubt, is that boy."
At that moment, Sherazade, who had been effortlessly handling Alexia, felt her heart tighten. She knew it would be nearly impossible to face Davi in her current exhausted state. In other words, she had to escape.
But...
"I told you I would kill you," Davi said as he severed the woman’s arm with an unbelievably fast strike.
Not even a second had passed between the moment he was revived and the instant he delivered the attack.
Normally, it took a few moments for the revived to regain their consciousness and comprehend their surroundings, but Davi’s body reacted purely on instinct.
And with aggressive intent, he launched another attack against the woman.
"He always overdoes it..." Sophia sighed, feeling both concerned that Davi was pushing his body too hard and admiring him at the same time.
