Chapter 62: You are a master that I want to follow until the end.
Davi concentrated a massive amount of mana in his right arm, forming a pulsating black sphere, dense like a black hole. Then, he activated his ability <Supernova>, unleashing a powerful beam of energy that created an opening in the Great King’s once-impenetrable defense.
After that, Sylvia was supposed to finish the battle. Still mid-air, she completed the creation of a powerful spear and launched it at the enemy. Accelerated by gravity, the weapon struck the weakened part of the Great King’s armor, impaling it.
However, instead of being defeated, the monster roared even more furiously, making the ground tremble. It attacked Sylvia with one of its claws, now much faster than before. She managed to block the first strike but fell to the ground, leaving herself vulnerable to an incoming energy blast.
Seeing the attack approaching, the girl tried to dodge, but exhaustion from using all her powers slowed her down. And for an instant, she found herself staring death in the face. There was no way to escape, her body simply wouldn’t move fast enough.
For a fraction of a second that felt like an eternity, her life flashed before her eyes as she desperately tried to force her body to move faster. Her eyes widened in panic, and a cold sensation spread through her body, but...
The blast never came. And her heart continued beating as always.
All thanks to Davi, who dove toward her, stretched out his arm, and grabbed Sylvia firmly by the wrist, pulling her onto the bird he was riding, somehow saving her just in time.
Before she could even process what had happened, she was wrapped in the comforting warmth of Davi’s body. And with a gentle kiss, he made all the worries in her mind disappear in an instant.
"Are you okay?" he asked, his voice soft and full of concern.
Sylvia, still breathless, could only nod, feeling comforted by his presence. Then, she took a deep breath and gazed deeply into Davi’s eyes with her large, love-struck gaze.
"Thank you so much, Master," Sylvia said with a faint smile, her eyes filled with an emotion she couldn’t even put into words.
For an instant, her heart raced, and even on her usually expressionless face, the signs of her burning passion were clear.
At that moment, Sylvia became certain that Davi was a king worth following. It was hard to explain exactly why, it went beyond the simple fact that he had saved her.
Somehow, she just knew with absolute certainty that whenever she needed him, he would be there to save her from anything. And that he would always be able to choose the best path. Therefore, she should always follow him.
Besides, the warmth of his arms around her was so pleasant that she couldn’t escape it. After all, her heart had already made its decision.
But Sylvia had no time to surrender to her emotions. Her eyes quickly turned to the immense amount of mana gathering around the Great King.
The stone plates that made up its armor began to shake violently, cracking and slowly breaking away from its body. The ground beneath it trembled as if the very desert was groaning in pain.
Within a radius of hundreds of meters around the creature, the small crabs scuttling along the ground began to die en masse, their bodies instantly drying up as their life force was drained away, flowing toward the Great King like a river of light.
With each crab that perished, the beast’s aura grew stronger, becoming denser and more overwhelming. Sylvia felt a shiver run down her spine as she realized the magnitude of the power being gathered.
Then, with a deafening explosion, the Great King’s stone armor shattered into thousands of fragments, which were launched in all directions like deadly projectiles. The resulting shockwave nearly knocked Davi and Sylvia from the sky.
And as the dust began to settle, the enemy’s true form was revealed.
The Great King had assumed a humanoid shape, but its bizarre crab-like head seemed completely out of place on its new body. Then, the beast let out a roar that echoed across the entire desert, announcing the full extent of its power.
’Oh! Who knew, you could make the Great King reach his final form!"
The voice sounded again in their heads and, just like a program announcer, he began to excitedly announce what was happening.
’If both of you survive in combat against him for just one minute, they will pass the stage. Thank me for being so generous!’
’But I recommend that you be careful, after all he is a powerful enemy.’
"Stay away from the fight, it will be very dangerous if you try to face him in your current state," Davi said with a firm tone. "That’s an order," he reminded the girl.
Then Davi ordered his bird to move away from that place carrying Sylvia and jumped out of it, approaching the enemy. He activated <Advanced Beast Form> once again. Unfortunately, that was the only transformation he could use at the moment, as he had already used abilities from all the other girls.
In any case, he took a deep breath and charged toward the enemy, who had two swords in its hands. One was a thin saber, and the other was an excessively large sword.
Davi advanced toward the Great King with determination, but he barely managed to react to the first strike from his enemy. In an instant, the enemy’s saber had been thrust into his shoulder.
He still managed to take a step back, escaping death, just as the monster swung its sword with bizarre speed.
"Ha! Ha! Ha!" The boy breathed heavily as he prepared to face his enemy.
Davi managed to get somewhat accustomed to the beast’s speed, deflecting some of its strikes, but he always ended up getting hit. The monster’s two swords danced in the air with inexplicable speed.
’Congratulations on your effort. Keep it up, only 30 seconds remain!’
That voice announced once again, and something seemed to change in the Great King’s gaze. It then advanced at an even more frenetic pace.
Davi felt a sharp blade graze his body after narrowly dodging the enemy’s first strike. Somehow, he managed to deflect the saber with a <Moon Slash>, and then he tried to use a <Firestorm> to keep the enemy at bay, but it wasn’t enough.
However, the Great King showed no mercy. Its eyes glowed with insane fury, and its strikes became faster and more brutal.
Davi didn’t even have time to think about a counterattack; his only concern was surviving for one more second. With each strike, he could only desperately defend against a far more powerful enemy.
Exhaustion completely overtook the boy, and for a moment, he was certain he would die as the enemy’s sword approached his chest. However...
A heavy clang of metal against metal echoed through the air as Sylvia placed herself between the boy and his enemy. Disobeying the order she had received, she decided to face the enemy.
She managed to dodge the first few strikes but was soon pushed back. Unable to use her abilities anymore, she couldn’t do anything against the beast. Davi tried to approach, but he didn’t even have time to move as the Great King managed to inflict a deep wound on the girl’s chest. Then...
’Congratulations on surviving long enough.’
’Noble warriors, I announce that you have completed the first test.’
Just before the Great King could deliver a final blow to Sylvia, time ran out, and they won. A silvery light gently enveloped them, and all their wounds disappeared. Even the exhaustion vanished, and Davi could use <Love the King Again>. It was almost as if a day had passed in the blink of an eye.
"Are you okay?" Sylvia ran toward Davi, worried.
The boy responded with a slight smile, "Don’t worry, and thank you for saving my life."
He stood up and ruffled the girl’s hair, which she accepted with a very happy smile. Then she moved even closer to him, wanting more affection.
However, the two barely had a moment of peace to breathe or celebrate their temporary victory. Suddenly, the ground beneath their feet began to tremble again, even more violently and furiously than before.
It was as if the earth itself were alive, awakening from a deep slumber and reacting to the fall of its leader with uncontrollable rage. Cracks began to spread across the dry ground, branching out like spiderwebs in all directions.
Davi and Sylvia exchanged quick glances, a mix of frustration and fear in their eyes. They would have liked to enjoy each other’s presence a little longer, but they knew they wouldn’t have more time to relax.
So Davi pressed his back against the girl’s, so they could carefully observe their surroundings. As they got ready to the fight to come.
