Rise of the Harem King -
Chapter 61: First test
Chapter 61: First test
The ground shook violently, as if the earth itself were writhing beneath their feet. On the horizon, the two spotted something that looked like a sphere made of rocks, rolling toward them with overwhelming force. With each movement, the impact echoed like thunder.
The rocky sphere suddenly stopped before them, revealing two glowing, yellow eyes. From its underside, eight crab-like legs emerged, covered in thick rock yet surprisingly agile. Finally, two massive claws extended from its sides, one sharp, the other oversized and clumsy.
"How should we attack, master?" Sylvia asked.
"Approach it carefully, check if there’s any weak point," Davi ordered, then quickly stepped back, avoiding getting too close to the enemy.
He wanted to avoid using <Love the King> too soon, as he didn’t want to exhaust his powers early, especially when he had no idea how many more trials lay ahead. It would be best to attack only when absolutely necessary.
So, he observed as Sylvia swiftly approached the enemy. No matter how hard the Great King tried to strike her with its claws, it was simply too slow.
The silver-haired girl managed to slip past its right claw before it could close, then ran across its massive body. She attempted multiple times to strike the connection points between the rock plates that formed its armor, but she couldn’t create even a single crack.
She then tried to examine the underside of the creature. However, its legs were extremely tough and could not be cut. Moreover, upon noticing her beneath its belly, the Great King simply retracted its legs, nearly crushing the girl with its sheer weight.
That said, thanks to her incredible speed, she managed to escape just in time. Her final target was the creature’s eyes. She accelerated at an absurd pace, climbed onto the beast again, and attempted to cut what seemed to be its eyes.
For the first time, she managed to deal some damage, slicing off one of its eyes. However, after a few seconds, the creature regenerated, growing another eye in its place. It truly seemed to have no weakness.
"I’m sorry, Master, but I couldn’t find anything," Sylvia appeared beside Davi in an instant, showcasing her absurd speed.
"I see," the boy said with a sigh, stepping back a few paces. At the same time, he activated <Excavate>, weakening the ground he left behind.
When the monster lunged forward to attack him, its weight caused the softened ground to collapse, momentarily trapping the creature in place.
"Master, I might be able to deal damage if I increase the mass of my creations, but I need some time."
"Do it. I can distract the enemy," Davi responded quickly.
He still hadn’t fully grasped the extent of the girl’s abilities. Even so, he could imagine what she meant, she was probably able to create objects with supermassive density, like a sword made from an ultra-concentrated metal or something even more abstract.
Davi couldn’t imagine himself doing something like that, but her ability seemed incredibly versatile. Or perhaps it had something to do with <Tiamat Transformation>, as Davi noticed that while she advanced toward the crab-like creature, Sylvia was enveloped in a powerful aura, triggering some kind of transformation.
Regardless, he needed to do his job properly. He activated <Advanced Beast Form> and charged at the enemy, then struck with <Moon Slash>, aiming for its legs.
However, even his most powerful cutting attack failed to leave so much as a scratch on the creature. If he wanted to inflict any damage, he would need something far more powerful.
Nevertheless, the attack successfully drew the Great King’s attention, causing it to roar and attempt to slice him with its thinner claw. Since it wasn’t very fast, Davi managed to dodge. Additionally, the monster was still struggling to free itself from the weakened ground.
Meanwhile, Sylvia climbed onto the enemy’s back and began gathering a massive amount of mana around the sword she was creating. She had the feeling that she needed to strike with everything she had.
Fortunately, he didn’t need the boy to buy her that much time to activate her power. So, more or less at the same time that the monster managed to free itself from the trap prepared by Davi, she also managed to finish.
Then she swung her sword with all her strength, but even that strike wasn’t enough to do much more than chip away a few fragments of the Great King’s armor. However, when she aimed precisely between the connection points of the stone plates, she managed to cause a bit more damage.
"Roar!!!!" The monster roared in anger after feeling pain for the first time in a long while.
Then it shook its entire body, pushing Sylvia away. The girl tried to get close again to attack the same spot as before. But now it seemed like the creature was anticipating all her movements. And every time she tried to hit that spot, it moved slightly, causing her attack to miss.
Meanwhile, Davi was managing to dodge the beast’s attacks. Despite its colossal size, as long as it couldn’t land a hit, they would be fine. Maybe it was possible to defeat the monster through attrition?
At least it’s not a very fast enemy... Davi thought, but almost as if it had read his mind, the Great King responded with a swift attack. The beast made its sharp claw accelerate at an absurd speed, and if Sylvia hadn’t blocked the strike, the boy’s body would have been cut in half.
In the next instant, the creature raised its massive claw and brought it down with crushing force. The impact against the ground made the air tremble, and a devastating explosion of dust and debris spread in all directions.
The ground cracked under the brutality of the blow, opening deep fissures as shockwaves reverberated through the environment, shaking everything around as if the earth itself were roaring in protest.
"Watch out," Davi reacted quickly, pulling Sylvia close.
Then he used a <Moon Slash> to cut down a small enemy that was approaching. As the dust settled, the two noticed that several small crabs were emerging from the ground, ready to attack them.
So, he tried <Creation> to make numerous small pieces of wood appear, but he failed because creating multiple objects at once seemed impossible. With no other option, he used just one <Firestorm> to push back the enemies.
However, they would soon be overwhelmed by the excessive number of enemies, so they needed to act quickly if they wanted any chance of victory.
"Master, when I attacked between the armor plates, I managed to cause some damage. If we can keep it still somehow and attack continuously at the same spot, maybe we can defeat it," she reported quickly when the situation seemed to calm down a bit.
Davi used <Firestorm> once more, trying to keep that swarm of enemies at bay. But it was tiring him out more and more. Besides, it didn’t seem like they could kill all the small crabs.
Moreover, keeping that colossal monster still didn’t seem feasible at all. But there was a way. It would be a bit risky, but Davi believed he could make it happen.
"I think I can create an opening in that monster’s defenses," the boy said with a hint of uncertainty in his voice.
After all, he had never used that ability before and didn’t know how effective it would be. That said, all he could do was bet on that point.
"Follow me and create a spear. You have to attack as soon as I create the opportunity," the girl nodded in agreement.
So the boy reactivated <Advanced Beast Form> to increase his speed and advanced, dodging the enemies in his path with incredible finesse. Sylvia followed closely behind, accumulating a massive amount of mana to unleash the most powerful attack she could.
Then, the two leaped into the air, landing on the monster’s back. While still mid-air, Davi kicked Sylvia even higher, where she would be safe. He then activated <Supernova>, aiming at the creature’s back.
An immense concentration of mana gathered around Davi’s right arm, forming a pulsating black sphere, dense as a black hole on the verge of devouring everything around it.
Then, in a devastating instant, the attack exploded. A searing pain coursed through Davi’s body as a colossal beam of pure energy shot downward, tearing through the air with a blinding light before striking the Great King’s back head-on.
The impact echoed like a furious thunderclap, and the moment the blast struck the creature’s stone armor, a catastrophic explosion shook the battlefield. Waves of destruction rippled outward as the dense mass of energy slowly corroded and melted the monster’s protective layers, creating breaches in its once-impenetrable defense.
Finally, he summoned his bird, escaping the blast radius. And in that moment, Sylvia, still suspended in the air, had finished concentrating her mana, forging the densest spear she could create.
"Don’t worry, I’ll finish this, Master," the girl said with a confident smile before simply letting go of the weapon.
The extremely heavy spear plummeted, accelerating due to gravity, and the projectile shot through the air, striking the already weakened part of the monster’s armor.
And with that, the Great King was impaled right through the middle. The battle should have been won once and for all, but...
"ROAR!" The creature bellowed even more furiously, and everything around them began to tremble. Then, it swung its claw toward Sylvia, far faster than before.
She managed to block the first strike but was knocked to the ground. And in the next instant, she noticed a beam of energy rapidly approaching her.
Fortunately, at the last second, Davi managed to pull her out of the attack’s path, lifting her onto his bird. Then, he wrapped his arms around her and placed a gentle kiss on her lips.
"Are you okay?" he finally asked after the brief kiss.
