Rise of the Harem King
Chapter 100: She’s back

Chapter 100: She’s back

The students stepped cautiously into the grand main hall of the rift, their footsteps echoing through the vast and shadowy space. The place was enormous, lit only by natural crystals embedded in the walls, casting a pale and uneven glow.

It wasn’t their first time visiting that place, yet the absence of people made the environment feel much more threatening. It was hard to shake the feeling that something was wrong.

Then, as if to confirm the students’ fears, the sudden sound of clanking armor rang out around them.

Within seconds, a group of warriors emerged from the shadows, forming a perfect circle around them. Their matching armor, adorned with the golden emblem of Enki’s police force, gleamed under the dim light.

They held their weapons firmly, their posture rigid and disciplined, making it clear they were ready for any threat.

The students exchanged tense glances, feeling the pressure of the unexpected encounter. However, before they could decide whether to defend themselves or try to negotiate, Amanda stepped forward, revealing her face.

She was so anxious and concerned about the matter that she had decided to handle the students personally this time.

"Arrest them," the arrogant blonde said as she saw the students had made it that far. "I recommend you don’t try anything reckless."

Not only had the woman sealed the rift, but in a desperate move, she had also brought all loyal police forces of Enki to arrest the students.

After all, she knew that if they returned to Enki without her controlling the narrative, it would be her downfall. That’s why she had to act, no matter how desperate or foolish it seemed.

The students froze for a moment, feeling the weight of the threat before them. The air was thick with tension, and their hearts pounded as they watched the soldiers closing in.

Fear was palpable. Some students took hesitant steps backward, looking for a way out, but there was none. They were surrounded.

Then they looked at each other, some tried to exclaim their innocence, others argued among themselves. After all, only a small portion of them knew that Amanda was to blame for everything.

From the point of view of most of the students, that was an almost inexplicable development. Still, it wasn’t so difficult for them to figure out what was happening.

In fact, that only confirmed the suspicions that had already arisen when they were attacked by the rescue squad.

However, before panic could take over the place, Sophia stepped forward, breaking the collective inertia. Her posture was firm, and her confident gaze helped to calm most of them down a bit.

"We don’t have to obey your orders," she declared, her voice echoing through the dark hall.

The soldiers hesitated for a moment, exchanging uncertain glances. Amanda, on the other hand, clenched her fists, her eyes almost consumed by hatred.

"Don’t listen to this woman," Amanda tried to appeal. "My intention is only to conduct an investigation, so if you have no guilt in this incident, just surrender peacefully."

Her tone was no longer as arrogant as before; after all, the woman wanted to avoid a confrontation. And, for that, the best solution would be if the students gave up on their own.

"If that’s the case, then why did you set up an ambush? Besides, we’ve already captured all those responsible for the incident," Davi stepped forward.

The fact that he opposed Amanda made most of the students who were still undecided choose not to trust her. After all, everyone had practically absolute trust in the boy after he had sacrificed himself so many times to protect them.

"Step aside," then Morrigan’s voice resonated like a roar.

As the director, she should have had more authority over the Enki police than that woman, and she planned to exert her authority.

However, Amanda quickly replied, saying that Morrigan had lost her position after leaving the academy without any prior notice, abandoning her duties.

Only in terms of that small legal battle, the blonde woman was indeed right, at least in part. But that didn’t give her the right to assume the position in that way.

"Enough," Sophia interrupted the discussion between Morrigan and Amanda. "It doesn’t matter if you have the right to be the chairman now or not. After all, you’re going to lose your job soon."

"And why do you say that?" Amanda asked in a venomous tone.

Sophia smiled slightly, "Isn’t it obvious? Because the only one to blame for the incident is you." She finally revealed the truth to everyone.

"And do you have any proof?" the woman asked in a harsh tone that sounded slightly desperate.

"Aunt, do you really think you’ll get away with all this? Do you really think you can bury the truth so easily?" Sophia replied with a disdainful tone. "If you’ll allow me some advice, I recommend you give up before your crimes become even greater."

It was clear that Amanda had just desperately run for the exit of the rift, planning a last desperate resort.

After all, she was a woman who always advanced when she felt threatened. And that strategy had worked well throughout her life, but it had a limit.

Even though Sophia hadn’t chosen the most influential people to accompany her on the activity, there were still several students from prominent families.

Most of them were recognized as the greatest talents of their ranks; it would be impossible for the disappearance of all of them to be simply ignored.

And what kind of claim would she make to justify the arrest? Or would she just try to pretend that everyone died inside the rift and keep them imprisoned in secret?

Of course, she could also try to execute them right there, but if things got to that point, she would have no way to hide the evidence.

There were many people with her, and surely someone would end up turning her in.

Actually, no matter what she decided, there was no way that plan would work out in the long run. And soon someone would use that scandal to remove all the power she had.

And precisely because she knew all of this, Sophia had a confident smile on her face. After all, if Amanda simply hadn’t acted so drastically, it would have been impossible to completely destroy her.

"My dear aunt, this is the end," she declared with a gentle yet ironic tone. "Don’t worry, I’ll make sure to allow you to enjoy your retirement..."

Sophia smiled slightly, thinking about how she would visit her aunt after she was arrested.

"Don’t worry, you’ll have a lovely bed to sleep in and food every day, I just hope you don’t find the lack of space a problem."

"You talk a lot for someone who’s about to be killed!" the woman yelled, trying to push away the worries that were rising in her own chest.

That being said, Sophia didn’t take a single step back; she didn’t seem even slightly concerned by that threat.

"You can kill them all," the woman said in a cold tone, staring at her guards.

However her men didn’t move immediately, as she expected. And this made a vein pop in her temple as fury took over her body.

Why weren’t they obeying her?

The answer was simple; not everyone had blind loyalty to Amanda. And no one seemed willing to take the blame for that situation.

Preventively arresting someone, even if the arrest was incorrect, wasn’t a particularly serious crime.

Even if it was proven that it was part of a political scheme, the guards would hardly receive a severe punishment. With luck, some of them would even manage to keep their jobs.

In other words, the worst-case scenario wasn’t that bad. And the best-case scenario was gaining power and wealth.

However, killing the students could generate a much greater punishment if things went wrong. They could even face the death penalty.

And the men were naturally afraid that things would go wrong. Most of them no longer had absolute confidence in the blonde’s rise to power.

"I see that your sword seems to be blind," Sophia arrogantly took a step forward.

The smile on her face made it clear that she was sure the situation was under her control. In contrast, it was possible to see hatred and fear painting Amanda’s gaze. Anyone seeing the appearance of the two would naturally choose to follow Sophia.

And, of course, all of this was intentional. Sophia was doing everything possible to undermine the guards’ confidence in Amanda.

After all, the situation was still risky. And if they actually went into confrontation, they could have big problems. In particular, the prisoners they brought with them were a great threat.

It would be terrible if they were attacked from behind by Sherazade while they had to deal with all of that.

Moreover, what if some students ended up switching sides? Until now it was easy to keep everyone cohesive, after all they were facing beasts that cannot communicate. But it wouldn’t be impossible for someone to betray them at this point, asking Amanda to save them.

Taking all of this into account, Sophia wanted to guide everything in a way that avoided a confrontation. And seeing how desperate her aunt was, she could smile with the confidence that she had done an excellent job.

"Just attack, I promise the position of chief of police to whoever..." Before Amanda could try one more desperate tactic to convince her men to obey her orders, everything stopped.

No one dared to say a word, or move a single muscle, as they saw the person who had appeared in the center of that room.

"I’m back," Amelia declared with a tired but powerful voice.
