Chapter 160: Academy Competition 6: You Can’t Kill Me

BAM!

Hank reeled backward, the force of Stella’s punch reverberating through his rocky chest. He stumbled, barely catching himself at the very edge of the stage. His gaze dropped to his chest, and a gasp escaped him. Cracks webbed across the seemingly impervious rocky surface.

"This?" he muttered, stunned.

Stella gripped her fist, a quiet intensity in her voice. "Before strength, defense is nothing." The words were barely out when the entire stage trembled violently, throwing every competitor off balance.

"You mistook one thing," Stella continued, her voice gaining power. "This is a competition... The one with rules. Using defense against me won’t help you."

BOOM!

A sudden pillar of dark light erupted from the ground, a foot in front of Hank. Unprepared for the unexpected assault, Hank stumbled backward, crashing heavily to the ground.

Stella walked to the edge of the stage, looking down at him. "As your captain pointed out... This competition stopped us from killing one another. That saved your life."

’That is true,’ Tiamat’s voice echoed in Christopher’s consciousness. ’That light skill is strong enough to kill a Mythical stage beast. Killing a human will be a simple matter.’

"Miss Stella won this round! And earned her team 1,000 points!!" the announcer’s voice boomed, cutting through the stunned silence.

"Shit!" Zack cussed out, rage simmering in his voice.

"It’s okay... They’re still two rounds ahead," Tony said calmly, and Tori nodded in agreement.

....

The battles that followed weren’t as electrifying as the previous top 6 matches. After countless bouts and Mariana’s tenth stage victory, the announcer finally brought the first round to a close.

"Okay! Everyone!! The first round of the competition has ended!!" he yelled into the mic, his eyes on Mariana, who had dropped to her knees on the stage, sweat pouring down her face. Before her lay another girl, clearly unconscious.

"The Guardian Academy lost one match, meaning one member will be eliminated from their team! Vitality Academy also lost one match, and one person will be eliminated! First Star Academy lost two rounds! Meaning two members will be eliminated! The other teams lost three rounds each! Meaning, three members will be eliminated!" he shouted, then added, "Making ten eliminations!!"

He thought inwardly, ’And these guys sent their strongest, still... They can’t change anything... Only the first round and six already lost.’ He sighed, then yelled, "Teams!! Choose the ones who will be eliminated!!"

"Don’t worry, I lost! So I’ll back out," Hank said with a dark tone, and the three nodded in agreement.

"You did a good job, Mariana. We have more members... I just hope Mitchell will be okay," Advika said, her voice low.

"He will be," Christopher stated, his gaze fixed on Mariana. ’She won because her opponent made a mistake. Anyway, we are dragging with Guardian Academy,’ he mused.

Stella turned to her teammates, but Miriam stopped her. "You don’t need to speak, Captain!" Miriam said with a smile. "Josephine and Addison lost, but I’ll give my spot to Addison."

"....?!" Addison was stunned, turning to Miriam in confusion. "Why would you give me your spot?" she asked, her words filled with genuine bewilderment.

Miriam smiled. "You are a lot stronger than me... If I stay, I will only drag the captain down, but if you continue, you might make a difference."

Addison stared at her for a moment, then rushed forward, hugging Miriam tightly. "Even if we don’t win, I will make sure to do my best and secure second place."

"Do you think we can achieve that?" Josephine asked, staring at the two.

They separated and turned to her in confusion. "Every year, we take second, why would this year be different?" Miriam asked.

"Yes... We aren’t the ones from last year’s competition, but we can do it... Why would you even say that?" Addison asked with a frown.

"Because of them." Josephine pointed to Christopher, Advika, Tony, Zack, and a red-haired lady. "I have a feeling these five aren’t even using half their strength... They and the captain are the main powerhouses in this competition! Alas, I can’t even feel that guy named Christopher’s strength."

The three girls looked at one another and nodded; Josephine’s words truly made sense.

"Don’t worry! No matter what happens, we won’t get below the third rank! That I promise you all," Stella said with a determined expression, and the rest nodded.

....

The announcer and audience watched as a total of ten competitors stepped forward, while the rest stepped back.

From Guardian Academy: Tony, Zack, and Tori.

From Vitality Academy: Christopher, Advika, and Mariana.

From First Star Academy: Stella and Addison.

From Fourth Country Team: The same huge man Christopher had defeated stepped forward; he was known as Mountain.

From Fifth Country Team: A beautiful lady with long red hair stepped forward, known as Scarlett.

"Okay!! The ten of you will partake in the second round! In this round! Five will be eliminated!! You can’t give someone your slot in this round! Meaning! If you lose; you are out of the competition!!!" the announcer yelled, pressing another button on the platform above them.

BAM!

Everyone watched as the stage retracted into the ground, leaving a level green field behind.

"In this round, you are allowed to use your beasts! You are all prohibited from killing your opponent’s beasts!! No matter the stage of the beast, you are allowed to use it!!" he yelled.

’Yeah... Last year, the strongest beast was just a legendary stage, what can these freshmen do?’ he thought, pulling out a piece of paper. "Your opponents have already been chosen!!" He gestured to the huge screen.

Everyone followed his hand, staring at the screen with the numbers they had chosen in the first round.

"The screen will pick your opponents!" he explained, and then yelled, "Now!"

Everyone watched as the numbers shuffled wildly and spread across the screen.

"Number one will be Christopher and...??" The announcer was stunned. "Addison?!"

Everyone was speechless. They all turned their heads to the meek-looking girl, then to the indifferent face of Christopher.

...

"I would have said this is cheating, but the computer shuffled it," the governor said.

"Don’t you think Addison will lose?" the commander asked in confusion.

"No! I think Christopher will lose."

"...?!"

Zenith and the commander were stunned. "Why would you think that, Governor?" Zenith asked, completely bewildered.

"Christopher seems like a decent guy, he won’t hurt a girl."

"....?!"

The two were flabbergasted.

.....

The arena fell silent, everyone’s gaze fixed on the two individuals who stepped forward and stood before each other.

"This is an easy win... With Christopher’s beast, Addison won’t even see it coming," Monica said with a smile.

"Yes," Howard nodded, smiling brightly.

"What made you think he will win?" the Guardian Academy dean asked, a hint of challenge in her voice.

"Yes! What?! Addison is the second strongest in my team!" the Dean of First Star Academy retorted, her gaze cold.

"Simple... Christopher’s beast could take down Mythical stage beasts, and even Divine stages! What can she do?" Howard asked with a confident smile.

"Is that all?" The Dean of First Star Academy scoffed. "I thought he was a Transcendent, or even had a Sky stage beast! My Addison could kill a Mythical stage beast with her hands, what can this Christopher do?" she asked, relaxing back in her seat.

"....?!!!"

Everyone on the platform turned their heads to the middle-aged woman, deep frowns etched on their faces.

"Aren’t you exaggerating too much?! Who do you think she is?! Godzilla?! Even a Divine stage beast can’t easily kill another Divine stage beast, let alone a human, and such a small girl; around 18 to 20 years of age!" the Dean of Guardian Academy said with a deep frown, and everyone nodded in agreement.

"I know you won’t believe me, so you can only see it with your own eyes," she said with a bored expression.

"....?!!!!"

....

"Addison, right?" Christopher called out, his voice calm.

"If you want me to surrender, that won’t happen," Addison replied, her stance firm.

"No! In fact, I want to ask you the opposite! Unleash that beast in you. You will lose in one round if you don’t use your powers," Christopher said calmly, stunning Addison and the entire audience.

"You?!"

Addison lowered her gaze, lost in thought. "Aren’t you scared of death?" she asked, looking up at him, a hint of curiosity in her eyes.

Christopher raised his head to the announcer. "If she kills me! Nothing should happen to her and her team! They must continue the competition!!" he yelled.

"This?" The announcer was stunned, completely lost for words. He turned his head to the governor and general, who both nodded their heads at him. With a sigh, he said, "Okay, Christopher, I hope you know what you are doing?"

"Oh, I do." Christopher lowered his gaze back to Addison. "Come on, nothing will happen if you kill me," he said with a smile.

".....?!"

Addison was completely lost, not knowing what to do.

.....

"What is your brother doing?" Chloe asked in confusion, staring at the two in the arena.

"How would I know that?!! I told you! He’s unpredictable!!" Katherine hissed out, exasperated.

"What are you doing, brother?! Having pity on her?!" Adonis yelled in confusion.

"That is my son," Amara said with a lovely smile on her face, confusing Ethan even more.
