Reincarnated As A Lion In Another World -
Chapter 242 242: Caste Restructuring
"I propose a new policy, no more specialized caste, that system is outdated,"
A golden fireball the size of his head burst into existence in front of his outstretched hand, Conquering Essence Fire.
The ball of fire revolved slowly in front of Kael's open palm, emitting strong heat that radiated to the surroundings.
A thin magic barrier appeared around N'bayé as she maintained her stance beside Kael. The barrier blocked the rising heat that burned the air and sucked the oxygen.
Nalii and Priya could not help but narrow their eyes and take a step back to avoid the heat. Priya's body turned semi intangible and Nalii walked backwards until she was inside the cave.
One of the newly recruited four wolves who were bullying her two wolf sisters caught sight of a faint golden light up in the mountain.
He turned to face the distracting light, ignoring the sisters who were snapping and barking at him and his companions.
*POOFFFF!*
The sound of a burning object tearing through the sky and burning the air reached his ears. Not just him, but the other wolves, including the sisters heard it.
They turned their heads in that direction, catching sight of the enlarging golden light moving toward them.
One of the wolves, a fire wolf with bright red fur and a flaming red tail, whimpered and began to take a few steps back.
He could feel it, the heat, the burn. A fire that would burn other fires.
But even his intent to move away was too slow, the golden fireball moved fast, shooting down from the mountaintop like a flaming meteor launched from a cannon.
Within a second, it struck one of the newly recruited wolves before instantly exploding and engulfing all of them.
*BOOM!*
The resulting explosion was magnificent, nothing short of a splendid 'firework'. The flames spread sideways and upward, erupting into a golden mushroom fire that was seen by many creatures.
The shadow cast by the shuttle made this flame especially bright and eye-catching during the daytime.
"No, Kael" Priya had realized too late what Kael had done, she had not expected him to do it.
"Was that really necessary? Why would you kill them all?" Priya let her emotions take control as she began questioning Kael.
None of the wolves were spared, both the newly recruited wolves and the wolf sisters were devoured by the golden flames.
Kael didn't answer, the rising flames reflected in his eyes like a beautiful and sorrowful painting.
"Yes," N'bayé answered. Her eyes revealed calculative glints and she processed Kael's actions with logic as a template. She instantly understood Kael's intentions and agreed with his method.
It was effective.
"This is a message, that all internal conflicts will be punished thoroughly. Both the offenders and the victims will be eliminated.
This will force both sides to make an effort to quell all conflicts. If they see an offender, they'll report it quickly before it escalates and involves them.
This demonstration is just a medium to pass a message to all the deputy leaders and new recruits. Get in line or fall out.
Do you understand now?"
Priya and N'bayé had been clashing lately in terms of ideology. N'bayé naturally aligned with logic and discarded anything related to morals and ethics as she saw them as nothing but chains.
Priya, however, was more considerate of how people felt. She did not like N'bayé's logic at all.
"I understand, but is it necessary? Aren't there better ways?" She asked, frowning.
Kael shrugged his shoulders, "Yes, there are other ways to go about it, but those ways are not necessarily better and automatic in presenting results."
Priya wanted to retort but ended up not saying anything, it wasn't because she didn't have something to say, she just knew Kael wouldn't reason with her with N'bayé by his side. She too was also very smart and capable of deep reasoning.
Priya felt that she was the one holding Kael back from doing most of the ruthless things that came to his mind. At times, she couldn't blame him, the natural tyrannical ways of the lions were eating away at his psyche.
She felt obligated to stand by his side and make sure he remained level-headed. This, whatever happened just now, she didn't approve of it, but she would let it go.
Bringing Kael to the softer side was a gradual process, one she hoped to succeed in.
"N'bayé, are you busy?" Kael asked.
N'bayé thought for some time before responding, "Not now, but I'll be getting very busy very soon. My team of magic users would definitely have our hands full,"
As she said that she returned her gaze to the shuttle floating above.
"Hmm, Priya?" Kael turned to Priya.
"I'm not doing much," She said, quickly pushing the previous exchange to the back of her mind.
"Then you'll help me out, you're very good at interacting with others anyway.
I want you to supervise the new policy. Foxes, wolves, bears, and the rest should no longer be confined to one job or specialization.
Allow them to be diverse. Keep the castes simple, wolf castes, fox caste, bear caste, it doesn't matter.
Let them only be defined by race.
This goes for the birds too, no need to group them up into one Avian Intel caste. Let them have their own eagle castes, hawk castes, crow castes, and so on."
"Kael, is there a reason why you choose this new policy? I feel like you have thought about it before now, not just because of the problem of the new recruits." Priya said.
"You're right," Kael turned around fully and began walking up the spiral pathway. Nalii had returned after the heat died down and she followed him up.
"Our kingdom will continue expanding provided nothing stops us," He said, "A better model will be needed to manage our subordinates and vassals.
The specialized caste system is very good but it shouldn't be limited to just one race, if not, the kingdom will encounter a roadblock.
In fact, that specialized caste system could interfere with the natural way of things, causing some of these creatures to evolve in ways they are not supposed to over time.
Subcastes should exist within the main castes, keeping it diversified. Let the wolves be free to choose what they want to do and not be entrapped in a single profession.
I believe this way, we can be flexible and adapt to any future threats. And trust me, there will definitely be future threats,"
"Okay then, I'll try my best," Priya said.
"Yes, please do. Our new base of command is ready, I just need to finish handling some things here." Kael said. He was referring to Burdo, the contracts, and the elephants.
N'bayé's eyes brightened, "What else do you need to do, we can help out,"
Kael chuckled, it was funny that although he knew the kind of thing that moved N'bayé, he couldn't use it against her or to control her.
Neither did he intend to, N'bayé was not the type of person he would try controlling, it was pointless.
"Nothing much, oh, you haven't met Chloe yet," Kael said.
"Chloe?" N'bayé asked, genuinely confused.
Priya's eyes glazed over as her guess had been right, Chloe was still around.
Coincidentally, a humanoid figure dropped out of one of the magic shuttle's hatches. The figure spread her wings, summoning a torrent of black wind around her as she flew toward the mountaintop.
N'bayé raised an eyebrow, she had also seen wings on Kael's back but forgot to ask about it.
She quickly put one and two together, "Is she…?"
"Yes, an official member of the pride, she has helped me in direct and indirect ways," Kael said.
Chloe dropped down on the mountain peak just as Kael and the three lionesses got to the peak.
Nalii and Priya were able to instantly recognize Chloe, wasn't this the same person who had helped Isaiah get his revenge?
"She's with us now," Kael said, gesturing for Chloe to come over.
"Good day, I'm Chloe," Chloe said, she did the name introduction because of N'bayé who had never seen her before.
"Interesting," N'bayé muttered, she walked slowly around Chloe, observing her wings and the clothes she was wearing.
Chloe felt nervous being observed by N'bayé in such a way. N'bayé was a bonafide tier 4 after all, her gaze could be very uncomfortable for someone of Chloe's power level.
"You forgave her?" Priya asked, surprised. She felt like she was asking if a stone learned how to fly.
"Like I said, she was helpful and willing to remain," Kael said with a smile. He left out the part where he had been thinking of killing Chloe.
"Hmm," Priya sank into thought, maybe there was hope, she thought to herself, maybe.
"She's quite peculiar," N'bayé added. Her eyes lit up with runes as she analyzed every detail about Chloe.
"Maybe that's because she's from a place called heaven," Kael said with a smirk.
As expected, N'bayé's gaze intensified, causing Chloe to shiver.
