Chapter 52 - 50: Unknown Virus
Chapter 52: Chapter 50: Unknown Virus
I stared at the scene before me, my face frozen in shock. The people lying on the ground were screaming and crying, begging for help. One voice stood out among the rest, trembling with despair.
"I’d rather die than suffer from this pain..."
My eyes widened as I processed the horror before me. King Altabet stepped forward, dropping to his knees. His voice was filled with desperation. "It’s a selfish wish, but please... Lady Sumi... save my people..."
I slowly turned to him, my heart heavy. Aurthor and Gearor also knelt, their heads bowed. I looked back at the suffering people, their agony etched into every writhing body. In a soft, determined voice, I said, "King Altabet..."
He raised his head, his eyes filled with hope. I gave him a small, reassuring smile. "I’ve already told you... this country’s people are also my people."
As I spoke, for them a bright light seemed to emanate from behind me, casting my figure in an almost divine glow. The king and his companions stared at me, their eyes wide with awe.
I stepped forward, walking into the room filled with suffering. In the center, a woman in a green, glowing magic mask sat beside a small boy. She held his hand, tears streaming down her face as she whispered, "I’m sorry... I can’t do anything... I want to save you... I don’t want you to suffer anymore..."
I placed a gentle hand on her shoulder. She turned, her eyes widening as she recognized me. "G-Goddess..." she stammered, quickly dropping to her knees and bowing her head. "You’re here... You’re here to save us..."
Her voice caught the attention of others in the room. As they saw me, their eyes filled with hope and disbelief.
I walked past her, kneeling beside the small boy. His chest was a sickly purple, his face distorted, and his eyes bulging unnaturally. "Let me take care of it," I said softly.
The woman behind me watched, her eyes brimming with tears.
*(Aries...)* I called out in my mind.
**[Yes. I’ve appraised the cause. It’s a mysterious disease,]** Aries replied.
*(A disease?)* I asked, confused.
**[Yes. This disease targets the heart and brain. The surrounding areas become infected as well,]** Aries explained.
I stayed silent, processing the information. Aries continued,
**[It can’t be healed by magic or potions because it damages the brain and heart in a way that healing magic can’t repair. It’s as if they’re not damaged, yet still damaged. Healing magic and potions only work on wounds that are visibly damaged. The worst part is... this disease doesn’t kill them. It inflicts unbearable physical pain, making them feel as though their bodies are being slowly cut apart, over and over again, without end.]**
*(I see... Then I have the magic to cure it, right?)* I asked, my voice trembling.
**[Positive,]** Aries replied.
A smile spread across my face. *(Then create a cure for it...)*
**[Creating magic using Magic Crafter... Processing...]** Aries said.
In my mind, images of green liquid, herbs, a beating heart, and a human body flashed by. Then, Aries spoke again.
**[Magic successfully crafted... Bloom...]**
I raised my right hand, and a green water ball appeared beneath it. It floated up to the ceiling, then divided into countless droplets, spreading across the room. The woman behind me looked up in confusion, as did everyone else.
"What... is that...?" Aurthor murmured, his voice filled with awe.
I slowly raised my hand, then let it drop. As my hand fell, the green droplets descended, landing on the people laying below. Their bodies began to glow green. In a soft voice, I said, "Bloom..."
The room was bathed in green light. The woman behind me looked around in amazement as the light slowly faded. When it disappeared, something incredible had happened.
The people who had been writhing in pain were now sitting up, their bodies completely healed. They looked at themselves in disbelief.
"The pain... is gone..." they whispered, their voices trembling with relief.
Tears of joy streamed down their faces. The woman turned to the small boy she had been holding earlier. He was awake, sitting quietly. He looked at her and smiled.
She turned to me, dropping to her knees. With a shaky, sobbing voice, she said, "Thank you... thank you, Great Goddess..."
As she spoke, others noticed me
"That’s the Goddess!!"
"She saved us!!"
"It’s really her... she saved us!!"
One by one, they knelt, bowing in gratitude. King Altabet, Aurthor, and Gearor watched with me with happyness, their faces filled with relief.
I sighed softly, a smile on my face.
"At least... no one died..."
---
Later, we returned to the main room. I sat on the top couch, while King Altabet and Aurthor sat across from me. Gearor stood silently by my side. I looked at them, my expression serious. "So, when did this start... and why did it take you so long to call me for help?"
Altabet hesitated before answering. "It started four days ago... At first, people were just getting sick, complaining of chest pain and headaches and we didn’t take it seriously at first... but then it got worse. Their bodies started to change... they didn’t die, but they suffered endlessly... We tried everything. We have some of the best alchemists in the nation, but even they were infected-"
Before he could finish, I slammed my hand on the table, shattering it into pieces. My voice was cold. "Please from next time... don’t hesitate to call me for help. Act like a true king."
They flinched, their faces pale. Altabet nodded quickly. "Y-yes... I’m truly sorry..."
I turned to Aurthor, my gaze piercing. "Aurthor... you could have informed me sooner."
He lowered his head, his voice filled with regret. "I’m sorry, Lady Sumi..."
I sighed, my expression softening. "Only my country is undeveloped... not me. You can always rely on me in situations like this." I gave them a small smile. "We’re friends, after all... aren’t we?"
They stared at me, their eyes wide, before slowly smiling back. Aurthor nodded.
"Y-yes..."
Suddenly, Aries’ voice interrupted.
**[Sorry to interrupt, but the virus isn’t gone yet.]**
My eyes widened. *(What do you mean?)*
**[The virus spreads through touch, air, water, and even emotions. There’s still a chance that some people in this kingdom are infected but don’t know it yet. Their bodies will turn abnormal soon,]** Aries explained.
I stood up abruptly, my voice urgent. "King Altabet, send a notice to the citizens. Tell them not to leave their homes under any circumstances. They must stay inside, no matter what."
Altabet hesitated for a moment before nodding. He looked at Gearor, who vanished instantly to carry out the order.
I turned back to them, my expression grim. "This curse... this virus... it’s not over yet."
Aurthor and Altabet’s eyes widened in shock. "Wha—" Altabet gasped.
Before he could finish, Aries spoke again. **[Notice... another bad news.]**
My heart sank. *(What is it, Aries?!)*
**[The virus has been detected inside... Bokkon’s body.]**
I froze, my eyes wide, my mouth hanging open. "Wh—" I started to say, but Bokkon’s voice suddenly echoed in my mind.
*(Lady Sumi!)*
I snapped out of my shock. *(Bokkon??? Are you okay?? What’s going on??)*
*(I’m fine, but there’s something I need to report... An orc has appeared in our land...)* Bokkon and replied
*(An orc...?)* I asked, confused.
*(Yes... He collapsed as soon as he arrived... and it looks like he’s poisoned... because his head and chest are purple...)*
