Chapter 44: Chapter44-Do You Even Need to Think About It?

According to the long-established traditions of the human race, there are only two legitimate ways to become the king of a human kingdom.

The first is through conquest: open up new territory, expand your domain through power and war, and build a kingdom of your own from scratch.

The second is through service: perform a great deed for humanity — one so monumental that the Human Emperor himself acknowledges it with a reward — and grants you dominion over one of the existing kingdoms.

But regardless of the path taken, both methods are incredibly difficult. The cost, risk, and sacrifice required are beyond imagination.

And now, out of nowhere, the Human Emperor himself had reached out to Daniel and offered him the kingship of Mington Kingdom.

It didn’t make sense.

After a brief pause, Daniel asked the obvious question:

"May I ask why?"

He hadn’t rejected the offer outright — not yet. But he was careful. Until he fully understood the Human Emperor’s true intentions, Daniel preferred to proceed with caution.

A moment later, the reply came.

"Daniel," the Human Emperor wrote, "let’s skip the formalities. I want to ask you a simple question: have you heard of the Millennium Apocalypse?"

"Even as the Human Emperor, I must admit... I’m not confident we can survive what’s coming. Not without help."

"I won’t hide it — I value your potential deeply. That’s why I’m making this offer. When the Apocalypse strikes again, I hope you’ll stand with humanity."

There was a rare sincerity in his words. But in truth, only he himself knew the full weight behind them.

Because this time — this fourth Millennium Apocalypse — might be even more terrifying than the one from a thousand years ago.

This time, even true gods were getting involved. Who knew what might descend upon the world next?

Daniel...

He wasn’t just a prodigy. He was the inheritor of a god’s legacy. If the Emperor could win him over, then he might not just gain an ally — he might gain the backing of a true god.

And that kind of support... could decide the fate of the entire human race.

The Emperor had earned his title not just through power, but through vision. And this, he knew, was a moment that could define the next age.

Of course, none of that was said outright. Some things were better left implied.

But even so, Daniel was caught off guard when he saw the Emperor’s message.

The Millennium Apocalypse...

He had read about it in the history books — vague records of cataclysm and near extinction. But he never imagined the current Emperor would see him as a key figure in the defense against the next one.

Am I really that impressive?

Daniel furrowed his brows and reflected for a moment. Then, a strange expression appeared on his face.

Maybe... maybe I have been doing pretty well.

Little by little, his actions had begun to draw more and more attention. And perhaps that was why the Emperor was pushing him toward the throne — to elevate him, empower him, and align him with humanity’s survival.

When viewed from that perspective, everything suddenly made sense.

Still... did he want to be a king?

Daniel weighed the idea seriously.

The biggest benefit of becoming a king was, of course, access to resources. As ruler of Mington Kingdom, he’d essentially receive a cut of all wealth generated in the realm.

He would gain his own power base — a formal faction under his command.

Whether it was searching for rare materials or organizing expeditions, having a kingdom behind him would make everything far easier.

Mines, farms, treasures, and magical sites — all of it would legally belong to him.

From a purely practical standpoint, accepting the crown was an incredibly profitable move.

And what were the downsides?

Daniel couldn’t think of many.

Sure, managing a kingdom might be troublesome... but he could always delegate that to competent subordinates. As long as he remained powerful enough, betrayal wasn’t something he needed to worry about.

All things considered, it was a deal with almost no downside.

Still, Daniel didn’t answer immediately.

The Emperor’s offer had come out of the blue. It seemed... too good to be true.

And in Daniel’s experience, things that looked too good often were.

So, just to be safe, he decided to stall.

"Thank you for your trust," he replied. "But I’d like a little time to think it over."

The moment he sent the message, the Human Emperor nearly choked on his drink.

You want to think it over?!

I’m offering you a kingdom — not asking you to dig ditches!

Countless nobles had begged for this opportunity, swearing loyalty and promising their souls for a chance to rule a land under the Human Empire. He’d turned them all away.

But now that he was offering this position directly... this kid still wanted to think it over?!

What, does he think I’m trying to scam him?!

Frustrated, the Emperor stared at the screen for a long moment. But then... he smiled bitterly.

Yes, this boy truly was the heir to a god’s power. That was the only explanation.

How else could he remain so calm — so utterly unfazed — even when facing the ruler of humanity?

It was clear: Daniel feared nothing.

And that only proved the Emperor’s instincts were right.

Still, he needed to show patience.

"Fine," he replied. "You can have some time. But please, don’t keep me waiting too long."

When Daniel received the message, he let out a sigh of relief.

He hadn’t expected his cautious reply to spark such deep analysis.

To him, it really was just about taking a moment to think things through. After all... he hadn’t even completed his Star Upgrade Quest yet.

Speaking of which... he was over halfway done.

All that remained were four more World Rank bosses:

– One at level 40

– Two at level 50

– One at level 60

It was time to get back to work.

Over the next few hours, the Gnome Communicator for the human race lit up with new alerts:

[World Rank Boss Defeated – Slayer: Daniel]

[World Rank Boss Defeated – Slayer: Daniel]

Over and over.

The once shocking announcements had now become routine.

People’s reactions had begun to shift. The awe, the gasps, the disbelief — they were all starting to fade.

Daniel’s feats had become so overwhelming, so beyond comprehension, that most people were just... numb.

Was this guy even human anymore?

Some even whispered — as the head of the Royal Bibliotheca had once speculated — that Daniel might not be human at all.

...

At Royal Academy, Principal Owen stared blankly at his Gnome Communicator.

Not long ago, Daniel had told him he was about to begin his Star Upgrade Quest.

And now... the notifications just wouldn’t stop.

Star Upgrade Quest? Pfft.

It felt like Daniel was personally waging war against every World Rank boss in existence!

Come on, Owen thought helplessly. Even with an SS-rank talent, the Star Upgrade Quest shouldn’t be this extreme, right?!

Who the hell designs a quest that requires you to solo World Rank bosses?!

And not just one. Not two. Ten!

That wasn’t a quest. That was suicide with extra steps.

In fact, it made hell-difficulty quests look easy.

And just as he was spiraling into existential doubt, a new ping hit his communicator:

[World Rank Boss: Hell Banshee (Defeated)]

[Level: 50]

[Slayer: Daniel]

[Clear Time: 1 minute, 29 seconds]

Owen’s hand trembled.

That was the ninth one.

He gritted his teeth.

"There are only ten of those damn bosses in the entire Whitewild Expanse!"

"What the hell is this kid planning to do?!"
