Chapter 98: Horse Riding
Chapter 98: Horse Riding
"Your grace, shall I draw the bath for you." Agatha took papers from Oriana when she returned to the manor. As she followed Oriana closely, she could not help but notice exhaustion on Oriana’s face.
She need not be told what must have happened in their visit.
"I will need tea first. And some snacks." Oriana walked straight to her room followed by two maids.
Agatha signaled a maid and she left to bring the tea. Agatha stood behind Oriana as soon as she sat on the chair and started massaging Oriana’s shoulders.
"You seem tired, your grace. How about resting early today." her voice had a hint of worry but Oriana only smiled leisurely.
"I am only tired from the journey. Did Olivia prepare the handkerchief?"
"Yes, your grace. The lady had made many. My lord came to create trouble for her too but she handled it well too. But the lord was bent to create trouble. He even ordered me to serve tea to him." Agatha complained in an aggrieved voice as if she had suffered great injustice.
Oriana frowned.
"Damon had come to talk to all of you. That is not like him." Agatha only felt aggrieved as she remembered how he had treated them.
"He must be feeling proud after being praised by his majesty. Your grace, you need to handle him or he will really think he is the future lord of the manor." Oriana’s frown grew deeper. She had always kept Damon in check. And the man had lessened his presence. Did winning the war change his views so much?
"Call him to meet me later. Did we receive any letter." finally Agatha’s face looked much better.
"Yes, your grace. We have received a request letter from his highness the second prince. He wanted to take lady Olivia on an outing to Seren Street. He mentioned that he wanted to buy a gift for her to her liking." Oriana’s expressions improved a lot, making Agatha grumble. Who knew if the second prince was sincere or just playing around.
Does the woman need to look so happy about that womanizer! Olivia did not even have the skills to keep the attention of the man.
"Alright, bring my prettiest dress for Olivia and assign the best maids to prepare her. I have still not received any confirmation letter from the royal palace. This could be her chance." Agatha nodded with a cheerful smile but inside she sneered.
There was no way Olivia could be part of the royal family.
"Now that I think about it, Damon is around that age too. He must meet ladies and find a life partner too." Agatha frowned. She could not believe that Oriana was taking the initiative to marry Damon.
"Your grace.." but one look from Oriana silenced her at once.
"Go and bring the list of newly debutante girls. I heard that Baroness’ daughter is debuting next week. Write a letter to the baroness and ask if her daughter had confirmed her partner. If not, suggest that Damon was ready for the role." Oriana smiled as if she was worried that her son could not find the right partner.
But Agatha smiles back, this time the joy reaching her eyes. Who did not know. Mariane, the daughter of baron Ludwig was famous for creating troubles. If her name would be attached to the lord, his reputation would be tarnished.
"You are so kind and benevolent, your grace. I will prepare for it immediately." Oriana nodded with a smile. But the moment Agatha left the room, her smile disappeared and she looked more exhausted than earlier. She stared at the distance lost in her thoughts when the maid brought tea for Oriana.
"Hmm, where is Leo?" the maid paused.
"The young lord and lady... they went to picnic with the lady and did not return yet."
"...again?" Oriana felt exasperated. Damon was working so hard to usurp all the power. If Leo kept playing and wasting his time, how would he compete against Damon?
"Where are they?" Oriana stood up at once. She had to teach them a lesson herself or Olivia was never going to learn.
"They... they have gone horse riding." Oriana gritted her teeth. Her eyes brimming with resentment.
—----
"Am i doing it properly, am i?" Abi asked fifth time as she lightly pulled the reins of her mare. The big grin on her face did not fade even when she asked her question. Her face was giddy with joy and she kept staring at the mare with her big and bright eyes.
Leo was a bit more reserved but one could notice his curled lips and bright eyes too. He was enjoying the touch of the horse with joy.
"If you are confused, you can always sit with me." he suggested with pride in his voice as if he was already an expert in riding.
Abi looked at him with a frown, "why should i sit with you? A woman only shares her horse with her lover or husband. You are just my brother. And you do not know anymore than me." Leo frowned and looked away.
"Who wants to share the horse with you anyway." Leo looked at Olivia who was still guiding them about riding. "Aunt, come and sit with me. I will ride the horse for you." his face had a hint of anticipation.
Olivia smiled and tousled his hair.
"Oh! But if I sit with you, I will not be able to protect Abi on time if an emergency comes. It would be best that I walk while you learn to ride slowly and we will increase our speed with time. Alright? Now pull the reins and ask the horse to walk." She acted for them and they mimicked their actions.
When the horse galloped, Abi’s heart raced. She held the reins tightly and giggled while trying to balance herself.
"This.. this is so wonderful, Aunt." she could not help but whisper with joy. Such a simple thing yet the kids were so happy! Olivia felt guilty for not taking care of them enough.
