Chapter 97: Too Greedy!
Chapter 97: Too Greedy!
"Oriana, do not be too greedy." Duke Aykroyd watched her choosing the biggest land of the vicinity. Even though he could get it, it would be troublesome since many were vying for it but the marquis is not selling it.
"A single shop here costs a mine. Yet you want the only empty land here. You have brought me enough profit to buy it for you." Oriana blinked her bright eyes looking surprised, but in the next moment she smiled.
"Your grace, I have given you a son. What other benefit could a wife provide?" her nonchalant voice filled with pride but Duke Aykroed looked away with a grim face.
She noticed that her humor was not appreciated and sighed.
"Alright! I will not be greedy. You can buy me anything you want." she relented with a defeated voice. "But then, i do not know how i will react when the marquis family visits us in a week," the man froze on the spot. His eyes filled with guilt before getting normal again.
"Oriana! Do not press your luck. You have already gotten a lot. Yet you are.." he did not continue but the threat hung in the air and the atmosphere around them changed.
There was no love or tenderness the man usually showed to Oriana. His eyes were filled with cold glint. But Oriana did not seem to mind.
"Fine! Do not be that angry. But I chose the shop you have chosen first." she wrapped her arms around his and pressed her head on his chest as a loving woman.
The man shifted his weight and took a deep breath. They walked two lanes holding each other arms like a couple in love. The tender smile on his face had returned at some point.
They stopped in front of a large boutique shop.
"This one is doing a great business, Oriana. You can go and look. Change the staff or decorations anything you like, but I am sure it would not be needed." Oriana laughed at him and then entered the building.
Duke Aykroyd’s face went grim again. His eyes narrowed looking cold. A desire to burn the building when she was inside filled his chest. Surely this would look like an accident right? But he let go of that thought and looked away.
The carriage with his staff had followed them silently. He entered the carriage and tapped the adjoining window.
"The lady would take a long time. We will go to the tea house first." the carriage started leaving him away from those dark thoughts.
Oriana entered the shop overseving the work. A staff member came forward instantly to greet her.
"Welcome madam. How may I assist you? " She guided Oriana inside and offered her a large plush chair. The tea was served immediately.
"I am looking for a new dress." The staff nodded and went to bring more dresses. Oriana drank the tea in the meantime. She watched the amount of customers entering the boutique. From lower nobles to rich ones too. She watched a few rare special guests too. Her smile broadened.
The staff soon brought her a few dresses. She watched their quality and designs and nodded with appreciation.
"I have decided!" She stood up, surprising the staff.
"Which.. Which dress have you chosen madam?" asked the staff hiding her shock from the sudden reply.
"Dress! No, I have decided that I will buy this business instead." Oriana smiled leisurely and left the building under the stunned gaze of the staff.
When she walked out, her husband’s aide was already waiting for her.
When she nodded, he cleared all the details and promised to settle the transaction in a week. Oriana left the building with a wide smile on her face. When she reached the teahouse, Duke Aykroyd had already finished his tea.
He was smiling and flirting with a woman sitting in his arms. When Oriana walked in, she passed a glance to the waiter. The woman tried to stand up with a pale face, but the duke held her rightly by her waist.
"Is there any issue?" he asked her in a low voice. The waitress blushed and shook her head. But suddenly, she removed Oriana and stiffened.
Oriana only waved her hand at the woman as if she did not care. She walked closer and sat in front of the duke without cfaring a bit that he was holding a woman younger than Damon.
"The shop was perfect. Though I still feel it was a waste that I could not buy that land. But the shop is decent so as a good wife I will adjust." The man wanted to laugh at her joke.
But he decided to ignore her as he kissed the nape of the woman in his arms instead.
Oriana’s eyes narrowed for a second. But she hid the rage and kept smiling.
"Your aide said that it would take a week for the transaction to be completed. I will plan the tea party you wanted here. I will write the invitations as soon as I reach home.
I hope you would not insult me by not arranging the venue by then." She picked up the tea served to him and drank it with a leisurely look.
The waitress was pale and struggling to keep her composure. Didn’t they say that the duke and the duchess were madly in love? She watched with a horrified gaze as Oriana sat there and drank the tea while her husband, the duke, was kissing and licking her nape, leaving her body shivering.
Oriana placed the cup back and picked up her fan from the table. The man’s hand finally paused and he raised his head to meet her cold eyes.
"Alright. Since I have finished my task for today and you seem busy, I will leave first." she stood up and smiled at the duke. "And if you return to my chambers tonight, do not forget to wash the filth off your body well."
