Chapter 80: Hidden Treasure!

"That.. would not be needed, his majesty." he eyed Olivia as if asking for her to beg but the girl did not even look at him, making him furious. He could not pull her in front of his majesty.

"That.. would indeed be too much. I only wanted to wish you good health, your majesty." the girl smiled bashfully. But her face bloomed like crescents. Even a fool could notice that she was thrilled by the reward.

Just how much had she been suffering to be swayed by a little bit of wealth?

"Do not worry, it is her first trial. Even if she failed, we should commend her efforts." His words finally helped Damon in taking a breath.

Since Olivia did not support, he could only nod and wait.

Soon the physician came with two apprentices. Since he was told the matter, he had brought the new apprentice to learn from the experience.

He watched the young girl with judgemental eyes.

"Ah! You are already here. Come let me know what ingredients were used to make this incense. And how is the quality of it?" the physician frowned when he looked at the texture of the stick. The person did not have the mould to make them.

The small finger print mark on it shows that the girl has used her hands to mold it. His head snapped back to look at the girl’s hands but she was wearing gloves so he could do nothing.

"Is there something?" William asked, looking curious. Since the physician was not sure if the woman had made it herself or asked her maid to do it, he only shook his head, keeping his thoughts to himself.

"Your majesty, the best way to know about the ingredients is to burn it. But there might be a risk that poisons were mixed in it. So if I can take it back to my room and burn it there." many faces changed as they heard the physician. Even WIlliam’s face hardened as he had not thought about his possibility.

Every eye fell on Olivia staring at her as if she had already been announced as a criminal. A submissive girl like Olivia should have shivered with fear already and sobbed. But Olivia only smiled and raised her head to meet the eyes of the physician.

"Sire! Though your worry is justified! Wouldn’t burning the incense in a closed room be more dangerous then? But even if it had poison, it could not be in large amounts. And burning here in open space would not harm much except rare prickling on the skin." Everyone was stunned to hear this and looked to the physician for guidance.

The man felt embarrassed but there was no way he would accept defeat from a young girl.

"There are always lethal poisons out there. A small drop of it could kill anyone." he spoke through gritted teeth but even with such strong accusations, Olivia did not lose her calm.

Damon frowned instead. His hands instinvictly oing for his sword, "you’re accusing the Aykroyd family for a heinous crime without any proof! I can take it as a sin." His voice was cold and full of warning. The man was stunned for a second.

Didn’t this girl still have her name as Witherland? Everyone felt the tense air and did not even dare to breathe loudly. Afraid that they would be dragged into the crossfire. They glared at each other with cold and defiant eyes. But in the end, the physician had to bow his head. The man was the eldest son and future heir of the Aykroyd family.

"This.." William felt conflicted but when his eyes fell on Olivia, he felt a strange curiosity. Instead of feeling nervous, the girl was smiling as if everyone was happening as she had wished.

He had the same expression when he played chess with Duke Aykroyd. His heart raced.

"Lady olivia! Can you justify yourself." he feigned a serious expression as he asked her. As expected the girl did not flinch. She only smiled brightly.

"If the small incense had such lethal poison in it. His majesty must have his hands burning and itchy since you have touched it earlier. More than that, such lethal poison did not wait for burning. It had started to spread already in your body when you had sniffed it earlier out of curiosity. Half an hour had passed yet nothing had happened." she bowed her head in a perfect posture leaving the physician dumbfounded.

He did not know that his majesty had already touched the incense and even sniffed it. Now he had nothing to retort.

"It is alright. Abine worried so much about me out of his sense of duty. I am relieved that I am in good hands." the royal physician forced a smile and bowed his head.

"Then I shall burn one." He took out the stick and burned the incense. His eyes widened and he stared at Olivia as if he was looking at a ghost.

Everyone noticed his strange looks and it only left them curious. The innocence had already burnt more than half yet the physician did not speak a word.

Damon was stealing a glance at Olivia and then looking at the physician and then the stick. Repeating the actions all the time. Even his majesty shifted at his seat. He was watching the incense burning closely and felt a strange calmness. Even his nasal congestion felt much better.

He knew that the incense was a rare treasure. When it burnt completely everyone turned to look at the royal physician. Even if he wanted to stay silent, he did not have a choice now.

"The incense stick is well made. It had scents like sandalwood, lavender, and frankincense which promote relaxation and reduce cortisol levels. Lavender in it can aid in relaxation before bedtime. And resins, like frankincense and myrrh, have antimicrobial properties that may help purify the air. It may help clear nasal congestion and trigger the brain’s natural pain-relief response, especially in stress-related pain."
