Chapter 79: A Hidden Treasure!

The man had eyes like a hawk. Years of sitting on the throne had given him eyes to see what others could not.

He watched Olivia carefully. She looked more beautiful than her sister. Her sister had already enchanted the duke. How could a son be different from his father? His lips curled into a smirk but his eyes had a hint of contempt.

The girl was his aunt by royal law yet he was having adult thoughts about her. But as long as they did not marry, he had no intention to question their relationship. After all, Damon had proved himself as an important asset.

"You must have been closer to your nephew. For him to bring you here, you must feel pride." Olivia blushed.

She knew his majesty was understanding it wrong. But she did not have words to explain it.

"Your majesty, may the blessings of the goddess always fall on you." she curtsied again. "Actually, I am a bit embarrassed to accept it. But I begged the young lord to take me with him." she lowered her head feeling troubled.

The man only felt curious. Could the girl be greedy enough to announce their relationship in public? It would put Damon at a disadvantage. Would it not be thrilling? He has given her a way by mentioning their relationship yet the girl..

"Oh! Why is that, lady Witherland?" Olivia bit her lips. Her big animated eyes looked misty and troubled. She looked vulnerable. a beauty like hers had the powers to invoke the desire to protect. Even William felt a strange desire to protect her.

"It is his highness the second prince. He had promised to write me a letter but he had forgotten about it. I was worried and wanted to meet him and.." she hesitated as she took out a small pouch.

If he had not taken it out, no one would have noticed that she was holding it. William was stunned to know that the girl did not care about Damon. But she was using him to meet his second son.

He did not take Edward’s relationship with Olivia seriously. He knew his second son was a womanizer. It was not new for him to enchant a young girl. And the girl following him.

"And... I heard from the second prince that you are not in good health. So I wanted to give these incense to you." William laughed. He waved his hands.

A man came forward and took the small pouch from her hands and brought it to his majesty. When WIlliam nodded, he opened the pouch for WIlliam.

The pouch had small incense that looked different from the one made by physicians. They did not even have the perfect finishing. She had not put much effort into bringing them. It looked like something commoners would use.

The smile on his face faded at once. He knew that Olivia was not given much funds from the ducal family. But how much did she suffer to give something like that to the royal family?!

"They looked.. Different." WIlliam nodded at the servant and he closed the pouch again. He wanted to throw the gift already but since Damon was the guest he had invited personally, he could not insult his companion. So he forced a small smile on his face and entertained the woman for a bit more. "I never seen something like that in the medical house before. Did you buy it from the local market?"

It was a hidden warning to take a step back when he was still giving her face. But Olivia only smiles bashfully as if she was being complimented.

Even Damon felt second hand embarrassment standing with her. If she wanted to give something to leave an impression, she could have chosen one from the many gifts he had brought with him.

"This.." it would be better if he just apologized and ended it. But the girl could not read the mood. Before Damon could apologize, she took a step forward and replied with a bright smile.

"I have made them, your majesty."

"...." that smile could have left them speechless for a completely different reason. But looking at the incense and her claim they felt at loss of words.

"You made them yourself?" William paused, "had the lady learnt something from her father?" everyone knew that house witherland had medical farms. They grow all kinds of rare medical herbs and train the physicians there.

But it was in the distant past. It had been long since the family had disappeared and Olivia must have been too young then.

Olivia bit her lips, her eyes reddening further.

"I was too young, his majesty. I do not remember much but I used to make these for my father. After his death, I never thought I would make one. But when I noticed you in the ball trying to control your posture, my heart ached and I instinctively made them. I apologize if I have crossed my line." she bowed her head looking vulnerable and hurt.

She was just a girl who had lost all her family and was dragged into the politics of the ducal family. Everyone knew that she never wanted to be part of it. Most of the time, she just stays hidden and behaves submissively in public.

William’s eyes soften for some reason.

"That is so kind of you." but what if it really had the art of the witherland family. After all, he had covered his ill health perfectly. No one had noticed that he was struggling yet this girl had/ could it be that she took the talent of her family? If that was true, she could be nurtured as a treasure. Thinking about something, he looked at the pouch again.

"Go and bring the royal physician. I want to assess the value of these incense. It would be rude of me to not reward the girl when she had made her first product." the man smiled with a shrew smirk.

Damon’ heart sank at once. What if she had made them wrong? Would she not be punished for treachery then?
