Reborn, Its Time To Save My Family And.. My Enemy! -
Chapter 261: Killed Her Mother
Chapter 261: Killed Her Mother
Just as she came out of the tunnel, she saw various scratch marks on her body and some deep wounds. Blood was still oozing from them. But it did not stop her. She ran through the shadows as the manor behind her collapsed, swallowed by flames and fury.
And when she emerged into the night, into the forest beyond, her dress scorched and her hands trembled yet she smiled.
"Let them think that she had died like her father in there. From today onwards, I am not a clondoire anymore. I am their doom."
In a forest clearing several miles from the village, moonlight barely filtered through the branches.
She stumbled deeper into the woods, toward the only place she knew they wouldn’t follow.
The barrier shimmered faintly before parting like mist. She stepped into the hidden grove where the coven lay. They all looked at her warily as she entered the hidden doors. But they still did not stop her from entering. But their eyes were full of hostility.
"What are you doing here?" they asked her but she only looked at her with blurry eyes.
"They have burnt my house. I have nowhere else to go." it only made the witches frown.
"Thus is not a place for you to find shelter." they warned but she only looked at them with narrowed eyes.
"I have helped them when you needed someone to help. My family has given you many resources. Now that I need your help, you are trying to push me away." her voice had a hint of ridicule and determination that she would not leave from here.
The witches exchanged glances. They did not know the details. So they did not dare to promise on behalf of the head priestess
"Come with us then. We will see what we can do for you." One of the witch guardians of the door asked Evelyn to follow her.
Evelyn nodded. Though she had been here before, she was never invited deeper. It was her first time wandering in the coven. She looked around at everything curiously. This place was still part of the woods, yet it felt different. She could see her small houses and the smoke coming out from them. She did not notice any house when she entered.
They took her to the largest house in the row. Head Priestess Meridia stood at the center as she cooked something but the smell was too unpleasant. Evely covered her nose instinctively. As she walked closer, she noticed the head mistress’s silver hair flowing like water down her back. Her pale eyes watched Evelyn with cold, expectant judgment.
"You bring the stench of failure with you, Evelyn," she said with her voice sharp as flint. "Your father is dead. And the villagers grow restless. We warned you not to act on your own."
Evelyn dropped to her knees, mud streaking her cloak. "They turned on us because Olivia had warned them against us. We were so close. If Olivia hadn’t interfered again, we would have succeeded! But she kept pushing our plans backward. I heard that she had united all the villagers and they were planning to attack this place next."
Meridia’s gaze narrowed. "Olivia," she echoed, voice edged with contempt. "Always Olivia! As a blood witch, she should have been supporting us. But look what she had done. I will never forgive her."
"Do you think she cares about your forgiveness? Ha! It would be a miracle if she forgave you instead." Evelyn spat. Her voice trembled with anger and desperation. "You think it’s a coincidence your rituals fail? She had already killed one of you and she would come for more now that she had tasted her powers. As long as she lives, your plans will never succeed."
But Meridia’s expression did not change. "You blame her for everything. It is very convenient, isn’t it? You came to us to promise us the whole village if we helped you. We have completed our side of the deal. But now that it was your turn, you want to act weak and use us again to settle your own grievances."
"I don’t deny it," Evelyn said coldly. "But you know I am not wrong. She is dangerous. If she had not interfered and the villagers had died, I would have given that land to you and protected you from the outer world.
It was her actions that caused me to be in this miserable state. She had already performed rituals no one taught her. She knows things that shouldn’t be known. If you don’t stop her now, you won’t be able to."
Meridia stepped closer, the hem of her robe whispering against the moss. "You think yourself clever. But power games do not impress me, girl."
"I don’t need to impress you," Evelyn whispered. "I need you to see if you want to reclaim what was lost, if you want the old blood magic to rise again, Olivia cannot be alive to stand in your way." the witch frowned deeper, she knew Olivia had powers they could never imagine. But she had always trusted the fact that Olivia did not want war. She did not want to fight for power. She is a simple girl just like her mother. At most, they have to wait for one more generation to get the blood witch. So far, if they could get a village, it would not be that bad.
But if Olivia had decided to fight, that would be troublesome.
"Why did she suddenly change?" she was not looking at Evelyn anymore but asking her subordinates.
But Evelyn did not care. She came forward to repl again.
"Why else! She wants revenge because she is too attached to humans. She wanted to ruin her own kind so that she could live with humans happily." Her words made their blood boil and their eyes filled with hatred.
"I want to meet her and know for myself what she wants before making any decision. If she becomes a threat to us, we will kill her just like we have killed her mother."
