Reborn, Its Time To Save My Family And.. My Enemy! -
Chapter 260: Burn Them
Chapter 260: Burn Them
"Kill them! Not one of them should leave alive." villagers shouted as they threw another torch to burn the curtains of the manor.
Their eyes were filled with resentment and venegrance as they attacked the Clondorire manner
Though they have promised Rhistel that they would not take a hasty step and wait for him command, the coachmen had informed them when rhistel was busy protecting them, the other nobles had attacked the kristel’s northern manner where oriana and kids were living with many other innocents.
They were told that the clondoire family had insisted other nobles go against Rhistel. They were filled with hatred. They wanted to kill the whole family. They were resonbule for every death and loss. If not for them colliding with witches, would the village have been facing such grievances?
So, they didn’t want to stop anymore. They came flying toward the house and surrounded it. Before anyone could leave the house they started burning it with hatred.
"Kill them! Not one of them should leave alive!"
Torches soared through the night like comets of fury, crashing into the windows and heavy drapes of the Clondoire manor. Fire bloomed along the curtains, licking up the walls as smoke began to curl through the corridors.
"Because they had dared to conspire with the witches. They should burn just like the rest!" someone shouted, hurling a stone through a stained-glass window. Inside, the manor erupted into chaos.
Servants screamed as smoke rolled down the halls like a living beast. Their distant relatives scrambled to grab their riches, their documents, their legacies, anything they could carry, as heat and fire closed in on them from all sides.
"Help me!" someone cried from the main hall, trying to push open a door that had already caught fire from the outside.
But the villagers didn’t pause. They surrounded every exit, blocked every path. Arrows rained through the upper windows. Those who dared step out were met with blades and fists. Mercy had no place here.
Evelyn was stunned to see the scene, her eyes burnt with hatred and resentment. No, she couldn’t accept this end.
"Father!" she hissed, dragging the older man through the hallway. She could feel that his steps were faltering and his arm was bleeding. "We have to get out now!"
His eyes were wild and bloodshot from the heat and panic. "The south wing is gone! Evelyn, please help your sister in law and your nephew. They were the only blood left I had."
But Evelyn’s face was pale and hard.
"There’s no time." she glared. "I can only save you for now. And you still have me."
"But you are a daughter. You would marry another house and leave. I need blood that will inherit my position. Elric is gone already. I must save his son." he pushed her away and went to return to the south mansion.
Evelyn looked at her father with resentment growing in her heart. She had done so much for him. Even going against the man she had loved only for him to betray her like that and treat her like dirt.
"Father!" she still ran behind him and held him tightly. "Even if you go there, you could not change anything. The land had already been burnt and so the people inside. If we drag our time, we would burn here too."
Even when he frantically refused, she showed him the burning pillars and falling roof. In the end, he closed his eyes and cursed the villagers. But he decided to follow her in the end.
They reached the side hall just as the roof groaned above them, beams cracking and falling in bursts of embers. Evelyn pulled him hard leaving him shaken.
"Evelyn! You have always been good to me." he felt a touch of remorse as he looked at his struggling to keep him alive. Evelyn did not reply, she only kept running toward the secret exit.
But the villagers had already reached closer. They would not stop without killing their enemies.
"Go through the cellar," her father panted and gripped her arm. "We can still.."
"No," she said coldly. Before he could understand what happened, she looked at the exit door and shouted loudly, so the sound could be heard by the villagers looking for them, "Help! He’s here! Here’s the head of the Clondoire family!"
Before he could make sense of it, She shoved him forward. For one breathless moment, her father looked back at her with a confused look. But only then did he realize he was betrayed by his own blood. The doors burst open and the angry villagers surrounded him.
As he screamed, Evelyn turned with quick steps. Once they were done with her father, they would come for her. She did not have much time. With her Heart pounding, she took a deep breath to steady herself. She did nothing wrong. Her father never loved her anyway. He was only using her for his plan and was going to give everything to elric. Even when Elric was not in the picture, he still never thought of her as his heir.
Her eyes went cold just thinking about it. she darted into the hidden corridor behind the wine racks. A cold stone tunnel was hidden beneath the wooden wall. It was an escape route built generations ago, forgotten by most of them but the main family line was shown so that they could use it during an emergency.
She didn’t look back when her father shouted her name or the angry mob cursed her.
She crawled inside the tunnel and closed the wooden door behind her when she heard footsteps getting closer. She crawled without stopping even for a second. She would fight for her life. No matter what, she would not die before taking her revenge. It took her hours, it felt like ages had passed when she finally saw the light again.
She could feel the wetness on her clothes. A few insects had crawled on her skin. She had heard the hissing of the snakes, but nothing could shake her anymore. She was ready to go through hell if required to get him.
