Chapter 254: Within You

Olivia wiped the blood from her nose as she tried to stand up but Liliana shook her head and let her sit down for a longer time. Olivia’s chest rising and falling as she tried to catch her breath. The grass still glowed faintly around her, the warmth of the magic ebbing slowly from her fingertips. Her voice was shaky when she finally spoke.

"How... how is this possible?" she asked, turning her wide eyes toward Liliana. "You said a witch can only control one element. But I have used fire, water, and now... this earth. How?"

Liliana hesitated, clearly torn. She brushed Olivia’s hair back from her damp forehead and then slowly stood and watched the grass. It was not one or two strands but the whole stone was covered with grass now.

"It’s true," she finally admitted, her voice low. "Witches are born attuned to one element. That’s the law of nature. The balance of magic itself. We train others, yes, but that takes years of spellwork, rituals, focus stones, and still, it’s nothing like what you did."

Liliana looked back at the temple for a long moment before turning to Olivia again. "You didn’t just perform a spell, Olivia. You commanded the elements. That’s not something a witch learns. It’s something... she’s born with."

Olivia’s brows furrowed. "So what does that mean?"

"It means you’re not just any witch," Liliana whispered, voice tense with a mixture of fear and awe. "You might be the strongest one ever born."

The words hung in the air like thunder waiting to strike.

Liliana knelt beside her again, her tone urgent now. "You have to inform the coven. They will want to see this for themselves. If you truly can use more than one element, Olivia. if you’re what I think you are, then you are a rarity we have only read about in ancient texts. A bloodwitch with all the elements! You could bring a revolution."

Olivia tried to stand, wobbling slightly. "And what will the coven do to me if I am what you say?"

Liliana hesitated. "That’s... complicated."

"Tell me. Do you think they would listen to me and stop attacking the villagers?" Liiana was surprised but even she was a fool could not believe that witches would give up just like that!

"They need a revolution and you could bring it for them. They would listen to your demands as long as they did not feel threatened by you and believe that you would help them in getting their freedom. You do not know how it feels to live under dark woods all this time." her voice dimmed and Olivia sighed. She had never said that witches were wrong but their methods were vicious.

"Alright, I am ready to meet them but I would not go to their lands. They have to come here to the common lands to meet me." Lilliana was surprised by her acceptance. She had always believed that Olivia would never accept a negotiation.

She was more than happy to hear the news but her smile died instantly.

’I could not return to the coven. How would we inform them?" Liliana’s smile faltered, her hands slowly falling from Olivia’s arms and her eyes filled with worry.

"You do not need to worry about going to them. They will come for me, won’t they?" Olivia asked, already knowing the answer. "To take revenge for the witch that died. the one I—"

"Yes," Liliana cut in, voice strained. "They think you killed her in cold blood."

"I defended myself," Olivia said bitterly. "I couldn’t have let them burn the whole village and kill my family. We are enemies now so they would plan to attack me again."

Liliana gave no answer. Her silence was enough.

"We can’t go to them," Olivia said after a pause. "Then we will wait for them here on the neutral ground. Until then, we can continue my training."

Liliana was quiet for a long moment before nodding slowly. "You are too brave! I could never think of challenging them."

"That is because you have grown up with them and look at them as your family. I do not hold these emotions for them." She stood up with wobbly legs. "But you are my friend, so I promise you I will not hurt them until it is defence." Liliana nodded. She had no doubt that Olivia did not want war. She did not want to kill any of them.

"Till then, how about we explore more of my powers." Olivia smiled brightly despite the exhaustion in her body. Liliana knew she was trying to hold on but she still nodded.

"Alright, then next try the wind.."

Liliana’s eyes scanned the clearing until she spotted a dry, brittle tree standing a little distance from the temple’s edge, a tall, leafless thing with bark cracked by time and weather. She pointed toward it.

"See that tree?" she asked.

Olivia followed her gaze and nodded.

"We’ll start there," Liliana said. "I want you to burn it. Then... you’ll summon wind strong enough to put the flames out."

Olivia blinked. "That’s not exactly a gentle task."

Liliana gave a thin smile. "Controlling fire and wind in succession will test your precision. You can’t let the fire grow out of control and the wind must be more than a breeze. You’ll have to put it into motion, shape it with intent."

Olivia exhaled, shaky but determined. She stepped forward, the ground steadying beneath her bare feet. Raising her hand, she focused, drawing from the heat still lingering inside her. Flames flickered to life in her palm, and with a sharp flick of her wrist, she hurled a small ball of fire toward the tree.

The bark caught almost instantly, dry as it was. Flames licked up the trunk, climbing higher and higher, crackling hungrily.

Liliana watched, alert. "Now the wind," she said. "Don’t panic. Close your eyes. Don’t think of air like something outside of you. It’s within you. like your breath, like your voice."
