Chapter 253: Power You Have!
Chapter 253: Power You Have!
"Where are we?" She looked around and frowned. It looked like the clearing where they had stopped the ritual before but at the same time it did not. She could see a cave-like structure in the distance.
"This is an abandoned temple by humans." Liliana shrugged not knowing much about their places either.
"Since there is a human temple, witches did not like this place. And since it is too deep into the woods, humans would come here too. It is a good place for hiding. You do not need to worry that your accidental magic could harm humans or witches. when you would be practicing. Unless you burn the ground, we are safe here." liliana sat on the ground and started chanting. In a few minutes, the land started to clear with the moss and grown up grass.
She looked at Olivia and then pointed at the place she had cleared for her. Olivia looked around and mused! A perfect place for learning how not to destroy everything she touched.
"What else could you do?" she asked with a hint of curiosity in her voice as she sat in front of Liliana.
"I can not do much, I am a healing witch. I have only trailed a little in my element." there was a hint of pain in her voice. But Olivia didn’t press it. She wanted Lilian to open up by herself. It was already enough that the young girl was willing to help her with her training. So, she focused on the main point of their conversation!
"Element?" Liliana smiled softly, her warm eyes looked at Olivia as if she was facing an incorrigible child.
"Yes, every witch gets her power from nature. So, we all have one elemental power." when Olivia still looked at her with confusion, she took a deep breath and explained. "Most of the time, you need spells or potions to perform magic right?" when Olivia slowly nodded, Liliana continued. "But each witch had a power she did not need a spell for. Like some could summoner fire just with their thoughts. Others could force water to do their bidding just with one look. A few could use air at their command and some had the power or earth. To grow anything just with thoughts.
I think you have the power of fire. I have seen you using fire in your fingertips." Olivia paused for a second and then nodded.
"Try it and we will see!" Olivia stared at her fingers and thought about fire. Small flames started to dance on her palm. Her face bloomed with joy but when she looked at Liliana, her smile slowly faded.
"What is it?" she asked in confusion. She asked for fire, fire came. Why was she frowning then?
Liliana finally looked away from the fire and then at Olivia.
"What did you think about?" her voice had a hint of displeasure that surprised Olivia. Most of the time, Liliana was very patient. She hesitated before shaking her head.
"I did not think of anything special. Just as you asked, I asked fire to return to my palms and it came." as Olivia spoke, she waited for Lilian to explain but the girl remained silent.
"Do you want to try other elements then? Ask for water this time." Olivia frowned. Didn’t liliana had told her that one witch could only hold one elemental power. For the rest of the elements, she needed strong spells to perform. Then how could she ask for water?
But as Liliana kept staring at Olivia waiting for the magic to happen, Olivia did not have much choice. She nodded and stared at her hands again waiting for the water droplet to fall.
"You are not confident enough. Have faith in yourself." she heard the voice, but it felt distant, almost fading. She looked at Liliana and noticed she was not the one speaking.
Her eyes flickered and she closed her eyes.
"You have to believe, Oli!" the voice whispered again and this time, Olivia nodded and concentrated more. Rain did not fall as she had expected but she felt her palm was wet. More like she had run for miles and now covered in cold sweat.
But it was enough to extinguish the fire. She looked at Liliana to notice horror there.
"Did I do something wrong?" she asked as she watched liliana stand up at once. She followed and stood up too.
"Come with me." liliana dragged her near the temple. Olivia asked her again what the matter was but she did not reply. She pointed at the stone floor of the temple.
"Go there!" Olivia frowned but still nodded and went. Olivia stood barefoot on the cracked stone floor, her fingers raised slightly.
"Now what?" she asked, turning to look for Liliana.
"Close your eyes and ask the plant to sprout and to come out." Olivia frowned. It was a stone floor. If she wanted plants, shouldn’t the mud and soft soil be a better choice?
Liliana stood at a safe distance, arms crossed, watching her with narrowed eyes. "Give it a try, do not think much."
Olivia exhaled slowly, pushing her will into the energy that coiled inside her. It wasn’t like before. She could hear fading whispers into her ears. She asked for cloira, a special kind of grass that works as a herb. It is easy to grow in this environment and bear the harshness of stone.
She channeled it carefully, forming an image of the grass in her mind while her hands pressed on the land. For a moment, the magic flickered and obeyed. A thin line of glowing red light followed her fingertip and absorbed the land.
"Let go!" Liliana shouted.
Olivia snapped her eyes open and lost her footing. She was stunned to see a lot of grass grown around her on the cracked stony ground. She gasped, knees hitting the ground. Blood ran from her nose, and her fingertips were blackened.
"I am sorry! Are you okay?" Liliana was at her side in a second, grabbing her arm and checking her pulse. "You are drawing from it too deep. Stop trying to control all of it at once."
