Chapter 233: Ruined Them

The chamber shook as the blood on the altar pulsed violently, drawn to Olivia’s body like smoke to flame. The red mist thickened, swirling around her, as if tasting her magic and then breaking it.

Below the altar, the witch’s hands moved swiftly from one wounded girl to the next. She pressed her trembling palms to their wrists, pouring ancient healing spells into their veins. The girls twitched and cried out weakly, then fell into unconsciousness as the blood stopped seeping from their wounds. Their bodies grew still.

"Faster," Rhistel muttered, guarding her with blade in hand, cutting down any who dared approach. "How many more?"

"Just two!" the witch gasped, already moving to the next girl. Her skin was turning pale from the effort. "Their blood must stop flowing, or Olivia will be consumed."

Damon fought like a beast beside them, eyes flicking up to the altar every few seconds. He could barely see Olivia through the glowing mist now, her body lifted from the stone as if by invisible chains.

"Come on, come on," he growled.

As the last girl’s wound was sealed, the blood trail to the altar began to fade. The mist thinned slowly and they could see Olivia again.

But she still looked bound to her place. The entire chamber was filled with a deafening wail as the ritual started to unravel. The ground started to crack and the land started to shake and cracks appeared along the edges of the altar.

the head priestess emerged from the back of the chamber,

"How dare you mere humans? Do you think you have the power to change fate!" She raised her arms, and the blood on the altar surged once more, pulled back by force. The magic coiled around Olivia again, tighter this time.

The witch stepped forward, raising her own hands. Her voice cracked with strain as she summoned a protective barrier around Olivia. "You’ve lost, Ilzera! The vessels are healed. The power cannot flow."

Ilzera’s laugh was sharp and cold. "Then I shall take it myself."

She hurled a bolt of black fire at the altar, trying to reignite the binding. The witch deflected it, but staggered back, coughing blood. Their powers collided—light and shadow—filling the room with blinding flashes.

"You cannot hold me off!" Ilzera shrieked, her voice warping as her mask cracked, revealing a face twisted by dark magic. "You were always weak, but I never thought you would be a traitor. you did not have any magic except healing! So what made you think you could stop me?"

The witch’s face was already ashen and her body was shaking. Though she tried to take the attacks head on, it was clear that she did not have the power to continue. The head priestess smiled cruelly.

"I have given you a chance Lilliana but you did not appreciate me. Do not blame me for the cruelty now."

Damon surged forward from behind Ilzera, sword piercing through her back, out through her chest. Her scream turned to a choking gurgle as blood spilled from her mouth. The dark magic around her shattered into shards of smoke.

She turned her head slightly, disbelief in her dying eyes. "You..."

"I don’t care what she was meant to be," Damon said, voice low and cold. "She chose herself."

He ripped the blade out. She looked shocked by the sudden attack. Before she fell on the ground, the witch held her in her arms and placed her on the ground slowly.Ilzera collapsed, her mask clattering to the ground. The witch dropped to her knees, gasping. Damon caught her before she fell.

"Is it done?" he asked urgently. The witch looked toward the altar. The mist had faded but Olivia did not move from her position as if she was still under the effect of the magic.

"I have no idea." she looked at the fading blood mist but Olivia’s body was still laviated from the ground and the dark clouds had covered the sky above her.

The other witches stood up and glared at Lilliana for betraying them.

"How could you do that?? One of them hissed. But they did not attack like high priestesses. Their faces were gaunt and ashen.

"I can handle them, you can go." Damon hesitated only for a second before he left her nodding.

Damon ran toward Olivia while Rhistel went to see Oriana. Oriana had lost consciousness. He checked her pulse and took a deep breath of relief when he found it normal. She was only resting. He placed her back on the ground before returning to the witch for help.

"Come closer, and I will cut you in half. I do not mind raising my hand on witches!" he warned as he took out his sword again and blocked the witch behind him.

Lilliana was shocked. She stared at Rhistel in confusion.

"You do not need to save me. I have done what I must." but Rhistel did not turn to look at her as if her voice did not fall into his ears.

He glared at the witches. "You can try if you think I am joking!" the sharp voice paused a few witches who had taken a step forward. They looked unsure and afraid but at the same time rage was burning their chest.

"You do not know what you have done! The blood and ritual had powers to awaken the dormant witch. But you have applied it on a bloodwitch. She would never be able to handle the power she had been gifted. You have not saved one, you have ruined both of them." the witch hissed with venom in her voice.

Rhistel looked uneasy. His gaze flickering to Liliana. Who looked away. Even now she does not know what the fate of the two sisters will be. Rhistel gritted his teeth.

"No matter what happens to them, you are going to die if you do not leave here."

"You will regret it!" the witch spat at them before casting one last magic and disappearing from there.
