Chapter 234: Belong There

The last of them disappeared only leaving behind burning ashes and thick stench of blood. Rhistel turned to Lilliana with a grim expression. "What did she mean? About the ritual and the bloodwitch?"

Lilliana slowly got to her feet, her robes torn, her hands shaking as she wiped the blood from her lips. Her gaze lingered on the altar where Olivia hovered, suspended mid-air by a force none of them could touch. "The ritual was meant to awaken dormant witches," she said quietly. "The idea was... to reawaken magic lost through bloodline decay. It was never meant for a true bloodwitch. I thought it would simply amplify her gifts. But..."

She paused, and Rhistel narrowed his eyes. "But what?"

"I don’t know what the blood will do to her." Her voice cracked. "Blood Witches are born with magic that feeds on power, not just their own... but others’. As if it is a loving predator. If the blood on the altar recognized her as its true vessel... then the ritual didn’t just awaken her. It may have fed her powers, something even she can’t control."

Rhistel swore under his breath and turned toward Damon.

Damon stood just a few paces from the altar, with his hands raised. but he couldn’t take a step forward. An invisible force shimmered like heat between him and Olivia, stopping him cold. He tried to move again, his feet grinding against the stone, but it was like walking into a wall of iron wind.

"Olivia!" he shouted. "Can you hear me?"

The mist had all but vanished now, but Olivia’s body was still suspended, arms loose at her sides, her head tilted back. Her eyes were closed. Her hair flowed upward unnaturally, as if underwater.

"Damn it," Damon hissed, slamming a fist against the invisible barrier.

"Stop," Lilliana said as she approached slowly. "You’ll only provoke the magic further. If it’s protecting her now, it might see you as a threat."

"I am not a threat!" he growled, spinning to her. "I’ve done everything to protect her—"

"I know," she said softly, placing a hand over her heart. "But this isn’t about us anymore. This is about what’s inside her. If it’s awake..."

Lilliana’s voice trailed off as Olivia suddenly twitched.

All eyes turned to the altar. Her fingers curled in. Her back arched slightly. Then her eyes snapped open. They were no more green but bright crimson, glowing like fire beneath ice.

A burst of raw power exploded outward from the altar, sending Rhistel, Damon, and Lilliana sprawling to the ground. The wind howled through the broken chamber. The torches lining the walls burst with red flame.

Damon groaned, staggering to his feet again. His ears were ringing.

Above him, Olivia floated downward slowly, her feet touching the stone with unnatural grace. Her eyes still burned, but her expression was blank as she looked at all of them as if they were nothing but strangers.

"Olivia," Damon said, stepping forward again, cautiously. "It’s me."

She turned her head slowly toward him. The red glow in her eyes flickered.

"Damon?" she said, her voice distant and confused as if two voices were speaking at once. But she kept looking at him and then recognition returned.

He took a hesitant step toward her and extended his hand for her. "Yes. I’m here."

Olivia blinked. Her knees buckled and Damon surged forward, catching her before she fell. This time, the barrier didn’t stop him. Before he could ask her what happened, she lost consciousness again.

Damon looked at her with worry while Rhistel turned to the witch with confusion. But she shook her head. Even though she did not know what happened, the crimson eyes were proof that a blood witch had gained all her powers.

"We need to get off from here first!" Damon nodded and took Olivia in her arms. Rhistel picked up Oriana. Even she had not opened her eyes since the moment she was dragged out from the ritual.

Liliana walked closer and touched Oriana’s hand after a moment of hesitation. Rhistel looked at her concern.

"She is fine, she had just lost a lot of blood and her powers had been pulled in the circle. She would lose even her dormant powers and live like a normal human after today." Rhistel did not care about it as long as she was fine! He held her and took her away from there.

They found Elric’s carriage parked outside. Damon placed Olivia on one side and Rhistel placed Olivia on the other side.

"You can sit with them." Rhistel pointed at the door. "I will personally ride the carriage." Damon nodded and sat beside Olivia, keeping her head in his lap.

Lilliana stood at the door as she watched them caring so much, her eyes flickered as she watched Rhistel caressing Oriana’s cheek before coming out of the carriage.

"What about those men?" many of them were still alive. They were only injured and did not want to face direct conflict with Rhistel after Elric died. Clondoire was nowhere to be found but Evelyn was still there, she was injured and unconscious.

Rhistel looked at them when Liliana wanted him. But his gaze was cold and indifferent.

"They have nowhere to run. We will deal with them later. My priority is the Witherland sisters." the witch nodded and took a step back, waiting for them to leave but Rhistel kept staring at her.

When she did not move, he asked impatiently. "How long would it take you to sit beside me." Liliana was sure she had heard wrong.

The shawl on her shoulders had disappeared when she was helping Rhistel in facing the head priestess. The agreement between them had long ended.

"I... I did not belong there." she whispered softly, "I must go and find my sisters.

"They treat you as a traitor now. They will kill you the moment they find you, you are coming with us. My men would come and take the girls away. you will be safe with us!"
