Chapter 210: Learn Her Charm.
Chapter 210: Learn Her Charm.
"Do you like that dress?" Oriana stood before the tall mirror, her white gown flowing like moonlight, delicate embroidery glinting at the hems. The dress hung perfectly on her hips accentuating her lean waist. No one would believe that she gave birth to two kids already and was in her thirties. She looked mesmerizing.
"Yes, it is beautiful and it perfectly matched the tiara Whistle had gifted me." she slowly swirled as she watched herself. Her eyes were glowing and she genuinely looked happy.
Olivia watched her sister and sighed. She had never thought Oriana could be happy. But Rhistel had truly changed her. And the man did not seem that bad now.
"Oh, are you just going to watch me like that?" Olivia blinked and noticed that Oriana was frowning at her. "You need to buy a beautiful dress too as you will be a bridesmaid. Come, let’s buy you a beautiful dress." Olivia wanted to refuse. But Oriana had already started looking at the other dresses.
"I will look for something simple." Olivia frowned. "All these gowns were prepared for you. They are too lavish." any one of them would cost thousands of gold coins because of fine gold work or gemstones on them. Not to forget the finest silk or handcrafted embroidery.
"Did you not say you are dating a duke too? How could you lack money?" Oriana clicked her tongue as she took out a red dress and passed it to Olivia.
Damon had never bought a dress for her. But she was sure that he would not refuse. But she was embarrassed to ask him.
"I think.."
"You do not think when you need to!" Oriana sighed, "and now you are thinking so much over a dress? Give yourself a break and try it."
Olivia had to admit that the dress was beautiful. Well, trying would not hurt! She nodded and took the dress to change.
Oriana paused and then gasped when Olivia returned. She glowed in a deep crimson dress that hugged her body and accentuated her every curve. It perfectly matched her hair and her eyes looked brighter, her skin blushed under the color. She looked so bold and seductive.
"Anyone would go crazy looking at you." Oriana whispered as Olivia walked closer and watched herself in the mirror. She blushed! She had to admit that the dress was beautiful and it looked so good on her.
"I will buy it for you." Oriana knew what stopped Olivia. "I owe you much more than that!"
They exchanged small smiles, a rare moment of peace shared between two estranged siblings. Olivia nodded and did not insist until she heard a sneer.
"How fitting," said a young woman with sharp eyes and a haughty smile. "We all knew that the widowed duchess had set foot in the northern duchy to get support. But who would have thought that she would take control of the whole duchy! Your appetite is big. And now you are already spending money when you don’t even have the title or position yet!"
Oriana’s posture stiffened. Olivia turned, her face already hardening. The girl strolled closer, the rustle of her expensive dress matching the condescension in her tone. "Rumor says you poisoned him, didn’t you? So you could have all the property to yourself. But who would have thought that your step son would throw you out?"
"But I must learn the art of seduction from you if I want a good match." Her smirk widened. "How does it feel to live shamelessly, Duchess?"
Olivia took a step forward, fury blazin in her eyes. "You—"
But Oriana’s hand caught hers. She didn’t but her eyes were enough to warn Olivia. Olivia clenched her jaw, swallowing her rage.
She had never seen Oriana giving up on a fight. She had always been haunting and sharp tongued.
"Lady Evelyn, it is nice to meet you." Oriana smiled, ignoring the insults. "I was only buying a gift for my sister since it is my wedding. I am sure you have got the invitation already." the woman laughed, but her eyes went colder.
"Oh, I did receive the invitation. Everyone did. The whole capital is buzzing with excitement — or should I say, laughter?"
She stepped closer, tilting her head with a feigned sweetness. "You know, Duchess Oriana, people are placing bets on how long it’ll last. Some say you’ll be thrown out before the wedding feast is over." Her smile sharpened. "But I admire your ambition. Some women use charm. Some use power. But you have none. So what did you use to convince his grace?"
Oriana didn’t flinch, though her fingers tightened slightly around Olivia’s wrist.
"And your little sister here," Evelyn’s eyes darted to Olivia with a condescending smile, "isn’t she the same girl who followed you like a shadow? Or has she learned your tricks too? Trading honor for status! I heard she is leaning on your stepson! I am sure she must have spread her legs already!"
That was enough.
Olivia’s eyes darkened as she stepped forward, her fury contained behind a cold, penetrating stare. She said nothing — she didn’t need to. Her gaze alone made the girl falter.
Lady Evelyn scoffed and turned away with an exaggerated shrug, "Don’t glare at me like that. If your stares had any power, perhaps your mother would’ve lived to see what kind of scheming daughters she raised."
She laughed at her own cruel jab, then took a step — only to miss the edge of the platform beneath the display mirror. With a startled cry, she stumbled, her foot catching on the hem of her gown, and landed hard on her knees with a loud thud that echoed through the silent salon.
Gasps erupted. A few noblewomen clamped hands over their mouths, while others failed to hide their snickers.
Olivia arched a brow, arms crossed, while Oriana raised a hand to her lips in mock surprise. "If you do not know, at least we can teach you how to walk, Lady Evelyn."
