Chapter 209: Too Hopeful

Olivia shook her head, her small fists clenched at her sides. "No, Oriana, I do not want to give up on my dreams. They tell me things... true things."

Oriana blinked, confused, her brows knitting together. "But dreams are not real, Oli. Mama says they’re just our imagination. And yours, make you cry. Do you not want to sleep soundly like us?"

"I do. But I am not ready to give up what is mine in exchange. What if i forgot them?," Olivia insisted quietly, her voice trembling with conviction. "I see things before they happen. I see people I have never met. It’s not just sleeping. It’s... it’s something else."

Before Oriana could respond, a soft rustle of skirts approached. Their mother appeared, her face pale and drawn, lips pressed into a thin line. She knelt before Olivia, her hands gently cupping the girl’s face.

"Sweetheart," she whispered, brushing tangled hair from Olivia’s brow. "The healer is waiting. She will help you. You don’t have to carry this alone."

Tears welled up in Olivia’s eyes. "I don’t want a healer, Mama. I know what I am. I see it in my dreams. I feel it in my chest the powers that I have. But you want to hide it and snatch it from me."

A long silence followed as they both stared at each other. Then her mother closed her eyes, shoulders slumping.

"We do not need to be one anymore, Olivia. One day you will understand me. But for now, you are too young to handle them." she murmured, almost to herself. "And i am not snatching them, one day they would return to you. One day, when you need them. I promise."

Olivia shook her head. "I will learn if you teach me." b

But her mother’s eyes were already cold. She took a deep breath and opened her eyes again

"We do not live in the coven anymore. I cannot teach you what you need. And out here... it is dangerous. There are people who hate what you are. People who would hurt you if they knew."

Olivia bit her lip, trying to be brave. "Then let’s go back. Let’s return to the coven."

Her mother flinched as if struck. Her grip on Olivia’s arms tightened suddenly. "We can’t," she hissed, and Olivia saw a flicker of fear in her mother’s eyes. "We are not welcome there. They think I betrayed them. We are enemies now."

The words hit harder than Olivia expected. Enemies? How could they be enemies of the very place they belonged to?

Her mother realized her own grip had grown too firm and released her, smoothing Olivia’s sleeves as if to undo the harm. Her voice cracked as she spoke again.

"I am sorry, Olivia. But this is all for your safety. Do you want to leave Oriana and father behind?" That finally made Olivia scared. She looked at her elder sister standing at a distance, confused and scared. She shook her head. "Then come with me."

She reached forward and cupped Olivia’s face again, thumbs brushing away the fresh tears. "Promise me, Liv. Promise me you will stop using your gift. That you will try to forget it."

Olivia stared at her mother’s face, full of pain, full of fear, but also love. She nodded slowly, with a pained look.

"I promise," she whispered.

The memory blurred at the edges, the water in the basin rippling gently as if stirred by an invisible wind.

Olivia blinked, her eyes burning. When she looked up, Rhistel was still there, silent but watchful.

"Your first memory," he said softly, "and your first promise."

She didn’t answer right away. Her hand hovered over the basin, as if she could touch the child she had been.

"I broke that promise," she murmured, voice raw. "I came back to who I was."

Rhistel nodded slowly. "Sometimes promises are meant to be broken... when the world needs what you tried to forget."

"So what do you want to do now?" Her brows furrowed. She had not expected him to give her the power.

"I thought you were making the plan for me?" this time when she looked at him, she was not afraid like before. He smiled softly and sat again, looking exhausted.

"I am only planning to marry your sister and for now, help you the way you want. But I will not decide that way.. You will" Olivia nodded, looking at the basin again.

"My mother told me that she was enemies with the coven. They treat her as a traitor. Why?" Now she was sure the woman she had met in the woods and near the lake were all witches. They must be part of that coven. They want her back.

"Perhaps, she left them for a human." Rhistel spoke with a frown. "I never heard of a witch choosing a human before. Perhaps, they did not want their identity to reach the human world. Witches are too proud of their character, if my family had not saved them a long ago, I am sure they would not have let us record them." Olivia bit her lips.

It could be the possibility but she did not see it in her mother;s eyes. It was raw fear. She shook her head.

"Do you know one? One could help me without speaking lies and without telling the world about who I am?" Rhistel frowned, not liking the idea slightly. "Before you refuse, I promise that in exchange for your help, I will perform any ritual you want and let you record it."

"..." the man stopped, looking tempted. She was glad that she noticed the sparkle in his eyes when she was performing the ritual. He wanted to test her powers. Though she was not sure if it was only for recording, but for now, she had to accept what he could offer and offer what he needed in exchange. The man sighed, looking trapped.

"Alright, I will search for one for you. But do not be too hopeful."
