Chapter 136: You Like Apple Pies!

Chapter 136: You Like Apple Pies!

"Did aunt return?" Leo was surprised to see so many bags. His eyes beamed with curiosity and confusion. Abi was much simpler when it came to her emotions. She jumped from the bed where she was trying to sleep without eating her dinner.

She ran to Daisy and peeked at the bags. Daisy smiled as she placed everything neatly on the table. Then she held Abi before the girl would fall and helped her on a chair.

"My lady, you should wait for your aunt to come and open the bags so that you can see what is inside." Abi pouted but she nodded. Her eyes still lingered on the bags. There was a soft aroma and fragrance. And it smelled like chocolates.

"Yes," Daisy turned to look at Leo who was still on the bed. "The lady had brought food I think." She had also felt the warmth from the baggage and the aroma of food. She was relieved that the kids did not need to sleep with an empty stomach.

"So much food?" Leo frowned. His aunt could not know that they were hungry. Then why?

He picked up his duvet and went to check when the door opened. Olivia walked in. She had washed her face and her hair was tied messily around her neck but she had not yet changed her dress.

She waved at Leo and kissed Abi’s forehead as she walked in.

"How was your day, Abi?" she asked, sweetly ruffling her hair.

Abi gulped the saliva. It would be rude to not reply first. She held her stomach to make sure that it did not growl as she replied.

"It was good, aunt. Mrs Maybeline left early so we had a good time to rest and play." she smiled sweetly showing her pearly teeth.

But her slight actions did not go unnoticed by Olivia.

She forced a smile on her face and then opened the bag.

"Good, because I am in the mood for treating you. Come, we will eat a lot of sweets." Abi beamed. She leaned to see what was inside the bag. Her eyes sparkled with joy as Abi took out a strawberry cake.

"Here.. you can check other bags with daisy if you do not want to eat this one. I have many desserts for you." Abi did not have that patience. The moment Olivia passed her a piece, she took the dish and started eating it while her legs dangled. A look of pure bliss on her face.

Olivia watched her with her heart itching. If only she could provide them more security. The daughter of a duke was so happy just to get a piece of cake. Her heart pricked at that thought.

"Why did you bring so much?" Leo had walked closer. Looking at his eating so happily, he felt hungry too.

"So that we all can have a feast. I will take you out tomorrow too so that you can buy new things." Leo frowned. He knew Damon had not given any allowance to Olivia. And his mother was missing with all the money.

The maids had even gotten bonuses while they... Damon had said that he was still not the duke so he did not have access to the treasury. Yet, he had enough money to treat the maids.

Leo knew what was happening. But he felt extremely helpless. He did not understand why his elder brother was targeting them when he had told Damon clearly, he did not want to compete for the position of duke.

"I have enough money. Did you forget about my betrothal gifts?" Olivia chuckles as she pulls Leo in her arms. "And the promise that you would give a bigger betrothal gift to me in the future." She teased the little child.

Leo looked at his hands. They were so tiny while Olivia looked so large, suddenly. He shook his head softly and sighed.

"I am not able to protect you. You should be with someone stronger who can protect you and give you betrothal gifts. Prince did not seem a bad choice." Olivia laughed but her eyes were pained.

She held Leo tightly. As if she wanted to convey her emotions through the warmth of her body.

Abi looked at them with the spoon in her hands. She knew they were sad. But she did not feel the pain of losing her non-existent father.

"Aunt.. brother is hungry too." she reminded, tilting her head.

Olivia laughed and cut two more pieces of cake. She passed one to Leo and let him go.

He sat beside her and started eating with his head lowered. Olivia looked at Daisy who was standing behind her as if showing her loyalty.

"Daisy, come sit. This one’s for you." Sweets were expensive food. One cake cost two silver. It would be enough to buy a month’s ration. So maids like Daisy only have sweets when offered by their masters.

Oriana often offered them in exchange for small tasks. So Daisy had tasted the cake before. But it was rare and she was indeed hungry. But she did not dare to sit down casually. She looked at Olivia in confusion instead.

"My lady.." Olivia sighed.

"Daisy, you have chosen sides already. And now you know that you would not be given food in the kitchen anymore. It will be better that you let go of the boundaries between us and treat us as a team now. We need each other’s support to pass this difficult time." Daisy bit her lips.

She had thought she had hidden it well. But Olivia still noticed it. She sniffled but refused to cry as she pulled a seat and sat on it.

Olivia smiled looking at Daisy.

"Good girl. Now you all can rummage all the boxes and take out the dishes you like. It will be better that it rot in our stomach rather than in bags. Right?" Only when all three of them nodded did she stand up. "I will be back in an hour."
