Chapter 133: Cherish It Well

"....." Edward took the papers and signed them. He had brought her here to trap her not to be trapped. But what had he expected! Looking at her confident face, he should have known he was bound to fail.

"Here, my lady. Now will you please elaborate?" Olivia did not open the file when he passed it to her but simply kept it beside her. She nodded and asked him to lean closer with a wave of her hands.

Edward frowned. There was no one in the room. Why would she whisper?

"The associates were offered wealth. But as we both know they do not need it. They had high expectations from the crown prince. But his haughty attitude is ticking them. You need to be humble for once your highness. And you are talented when it comes to stealing hearts.

The princess had personally come as an associate. She is under a facade, so no one knows who she is. If you win her heart, she will give you a chance. As long as you convince her to give you a chance instead of prince Elios. I will bring the deal for you, your highness. But this much, you have to earn yourself." she smiled sweetly looking helpless while Edward looked at her with an astonished face.

His lips parted but words failed her. He did not know how to respond.

"How...! I have been in the palace all this time yet I do not know about the envoys. How do you even know about their hidden identity?" he gasped again just thinking about it. A strange wild thought crossed his mind. "Olivia! Even with my full power, I can not save a witch. If you are found doing witchcraft you would be burnt in stakes."

Looking at his terrified face, Olivia blinked and then she laughed. Edward was stunned to see her laughing so freely. Most of the time, the evil smirk she gave was condescending. Or the forced smile when he touches her looks pretentious.

She looked much more stunning when she smiled like that. Her bright hair shone under the sunlight and her lively eyes shone like a rare gem. He did not realize he was staring at her until she shook her head and looked at him apologetically.

"Your highness, if I had been a witch, I would have used my powers in controlling lord Damon and taken care of the duchy myself. I did not let my sisters wander around asking for help when she got none." The smile on her face was cold again. Edward felt at loss when her expressions changed.

Her eyes were so cold that even he shivered looking at her. Oriana had requested a meeting with him, but he was making excuses to postpone it. He knew Oriana would demand the duke’s rights for her own son. But if he did not help Damon, Elios would.

"About that.." he felt a pinch of guilt since they were going to get married and Oriana would be her sister in law then. He sighed. It would be better to take it out then making excuses, "Leonardo is too young, his majesty would never agree to make him the next duke when Damon, the first son is alive and even has so many merits under his name." his hands clenched into a fist. He was prepared for her accusations and outburst.

But to his surprise, she just smiled. This time, her smile was so calm as if she knew his reply from the start.

"I am relieved that you spoke the truth, your highness. I know the second son did not have rights of inheritance until there was an issue with the elder son. No one could change the laws for me. Just like a woman could not buy properties or inherit titles. Even this property had your name with me. Isn’t it?" Edward looked away with his face burning red.

He had not made those rules. But he had always supported them. He did not believe a woman is strong enough to have properties or do business. She had a man to support her. What else did she need? But looking at her dim smile and helpless gaze, he felt guilty for some reason.

"So, you can meet my sister and explain to her. I am sure if you would be kind, she would understand and at least return home." Edward let go of a breath he did not know he was holding and nodded with a grim face.

"And as long as it is about the associates, you have forgotten that they must pass the dutchie to reach the royal palace. I have a few ears there. They were not alert enough and slipped the honorifics a few times.

And who did not know the nature of the first prince. He is..." Olivia stopped and looked at Edward who was holding her hand suddenly.

She raised a brow and Edward was stunned himself. He did it so instinctively that even he was surprised by his actions.

"What about my nature, Olivia?" since he had already held her hand, he did not let it go but pressed harder making her blink. "What do you think about me?" he tried to hide but his heart beat faster as he waited for her to judge him.

For some reason, he wanted to hear good words.

"...." Olivia blinked when he did not let her hands go. He looked at her like Leo looked at her when waiting for a praise. Olivia’s face softened at the comparison. She ignored the itch again to wriggle her hand away from his grip.

"You are charismatic, your highness. Every girl in the empire can confirm it. And you are cunning enough to use them as your pawns when you need it. And this trait would be enough to get a chance from the envoys if you try hard. So I wish you luck." She pulled her hands and stood up. "As you know, my sister is away from the manor. So I must return to the kids. Thank you for your time and this shop. I will cherish it well."
