Chapter 132: A Lethal Poison
Chapter 132: A Lethal Poison
"Do you like the shop?" Edward held her by her waist as they stood in the salon. A place where women could come and gossip. She had many plans for it. Good enough that she ignored the tingling feeling in her waist.
The man was royalty and held power. What else could she want in her marriage? She was not here for love. Love did not exist anyway. He was her best choice now that Damon had started his plans. She had to keep everyone safe.
"Yes, it is perfect, your highness. I will make sure to increase your contacts from this place." she beamed at him, ignoring the coldness of his eyes and the judgmental look on his face. As if he knew he was saving her from her misery.
She pushed that thought away. If he feels superior by helping her, then he must. He was helping her anyway. She fought the itch in her hands to push his hands away and smiled brightly at him. The man gave her a haughty smirk in return.
"Your highness.." the woman came to sign the contract. Olivia watched with eager eyes as he took the parchment in his hand and started reading it slowly. Too slow to understand that he would not sign it easily.
Olivia’s jaw clenched and her eyes narrowed yet the smile on her face did not falter. Of course, there was nothing free in this world.
"His majesty is not so satisfied with his highness recently." she started earning his attention. He closed the parchment and looked at the staff standing behind him.
With a wave of his hand, the room was emptied. The last staff closed the door behind her. Finally, Edward let go of her waist. He sauntered in the room and sat on one of the large leather chairs.
She loved those chairs, the large sofa and glass tables too. The room had one wall made of glass and a lot of book racks and musical instruments were adorning the wall.
One could do anything they like here. She could already see women coming there from all corners of the kingdom to spend time with other nobles.
Some would come for a thrilling experience where they could try their hands in gambling without the judgemental looks from a man or some would just come to drink and enjoy. A few would come for intels and others to increase their contacts.
In the past, this place had changed the society and its owner was Amber. But now she was the owner. A distant memory flashed in front of her eyes where she was mocked by Amber and her friends when she was still in the palace.
"A beggar waiting to be another cinderella!" she was told. Olivia pushed that thought away. She was not taking revenge from Amber. She was only securing her survival.
"Are you talking about my brother?" Olivia blinked and pushed all her thoughts away. Then she smiled at the man. In this life, she would not be a beggar but a business partner.
"Yes, your highness." she nodded with a bright smile as she walked toward him and sat beside him. He did not look impressed by the information she had brought.
He simply raised a brow without showing any emotions to confirm or refuse her words.
"Why do you think so?" he asked with a look of innocence instead.
"Why?" Olivia laughed softly. Covering her mouth with her hand like a lady, she continued. "The delegates are already here. Are they not? But you were not chosen. His majesty wanted to give the chance to the first prince. But he ruined it. He had already made a mistake and ruined his first impression." She picked up the glass of wine from the table. But did not bring it to her lips.
She swirled it slowly in her hands with a bored look on her face. The evil glint in her eyes was reflected in the glass. Edward’s heart raced but he hid his thrill and kept the blank face.
How did this woman know? His father had made sure that even he did not know about the delegates and how his brother was faring? He had to pay a large sum to get this much information, yet she told him as if she was present there and had watched all the drama by herself.
"But I am sure, your highness was already informed about it by Carter." she smiled when his eyes widened and lips parted. He opened his mouth, closed it since no voice came out.
He was speechless. He knew Carter would never betray him. The man had been working for him since he was a child. Then who else.. His mind started to make a list already when she laughed. His heart skipped a beat when her eyes softened and her lips moved.
God! He wanted to taste those lips one day. Why not now? No! He pushed that thought away. This woman was a lethal poison. If he did not deal with her properly, he would be the one to die.
"But I know more than that, your highness." she leaned closer. Too close that he held his breath unconsciously. He could feel the warmth of her hands on his palm and it started to sweat instantly. Just how many women he had bedded. Shy, bold, strong, but no one had made him feel this way. Like she was in control.
Women like to give control. But this woman... her hands traced his hands, following the veins on his arms. But before he could hold her back, the warmth was lost and so were the papers from his hands.
He blinked. And blinked again only to see she was holding the file now and reading it leisurely.
".... what else do you know and how could it help me?" he took a deep breath and asked in a grim voice when she smiled at him.
"You forgot to sign here, your highness."
