Chapter 127: He Holds Power
Chapter 127: He Holds Power
Oriana pushed her sister with force. She glared at her with cold eyes. A gaze that had always paused Olivia. The girl froze for a second and it was enough for Oriana to turn to Damon now.
His eyes had narrowed and turned darker.
"My mother is still in shock at her loss." he said with a cold dominating voice. "She needs more rest."
Oriana wanted to laugh madly but before she could two knights stood behind her making her eyes widen. Only now she understood the meaning of his words. He was commanding the knights to drag her out from the funeral of her husband.
How dare he?
"You have killed him, Damon. I know that you did and I would prove it. You can not take his place! You are a sinner, a criminal." she screamed hard as she knew she could not win him in power.
He was strong and knights listened to him only. She regretted not charming the knights to her side earlier. She had thought her husband would be enough! But now..
"You can not silence me." she warned him and then turned to glare at the knights. That was when she watched Olivia’s pained expression. Now she understood why her sister was stopping her?
How much the palace had changed when she was unconscious. Damon was never a likable child because of his closed personality. How did he convince everyone?
She had not scanned the crowd. But she knew every powerful person was here. And no one took her side. How could this be?
"Come with us, my lady!" my lady! Not your grace! Oriana felt at loss when the knights did not treat her as a duchess anymore.
"You do not need to worry about the funeral mother! I will take good care of it. Go and rest! You need it." Damon spoke softly as she stared at the knights, trying to take everything at once.
His voice was enough to infuriate her again. She knew the hidden meaning behind his words and it irked her! She turned with hatred when she felt a hand touching her again.
She pushed away instinctively only to realize they were not knights. It was Olivia again.
"Sister! Let me guide you instead." Oriana gulped the hatred. She would pay for it later, twice the amount! But it was better to follow her sister than be dragged by the knights.
Oriana softly nodded and Olivia held her hands again. She wrapped her arm around Oriana’s and held her tightly.
"Come!" Oriana watched Damon’s eyes. She watched the victory in it and her chest burnt with new rage.
They have only crossed the church and reached where the carriages were parked in a line when Oriana pushed Olivia away.
"He killed his father to get his position." she screamed.
Olivia looked around making sure that no one was hearing them before walking closer to her sister again.
"I know!" Olivia admitted. She had known about it for a long time. But her words made Oriana’s eyes widened. She looked shocked.
"You do? How? Did you see it? Do you have proof? Or you heard him talking to someone? Tell me in detail! It could be a big proof!" Oriana held Olivia by her arms. The force was strong and her nails were digging into Olivia’s skin.
The girl winced but Oriana was too absorbed to care. She wanted to tear Damon apart.
"I have no sister! I just guessed it like you." Olivia sighed looking at the madness swirling in her sister’s eyes. "All the vassal families support him. He even had the acceptance of commoners. And now the royal family had attended the funeral and let him preside over instead of Leo. I am sure you know what it means!" It means he was accepted by the royal family too.
It was just a matter of time that he would hold all the power of their estate. He would be the next duke. And she and her kids would be nothing. He would kill them just like his father!
"We can not let this happen." Oriana shook her head hard and turned to go to the church again but Olivia held her.
"And what can we do? He had already warned my sister. He held the power. A woman without a man is nothing. Leo is too small to be your guardian. He is the only man left in the family." Oriana shook her head. She would never accept Damon as the man of the house.
If only her husband had lived seven more years! No! She would never accept defeat after coming so far! She would go and prove that he was a sinner.
"We need to lay low till we have some power, sister. We need to formulate a plan. Your actions are only putting you at a disadvantage. What if he proved that your mental state is not well." Olivia stopped her again. Her sister looked desperate.
"You need to convince a few to help you too. Going to him and confronting him in front of the public would not bring you anything." Oriana felt lost. Her head was spinning again with worry. Her body felt like it was burning. She let Olivia come closer and wrap her arms around her body.
The warmth felt good but what if she lost everything while waiting! She could not waste time.
"What shall i do now?" Oriana gasped for air as if she had left none. she must have really lost it now that she was asking for advice from Olivia. The naive young girl who had always been clueless.
Olivia patted her back looking worried.
"For now, you have to go and say a big last farewell to your husband. Do not talk to Damon! Ignore him to let the world know you do not trust him. But do not challenge him sister! Not unless you know that you would win and do not! Did you hear me... do not send any assassins for him. He could prove it against you and announce death punishment for you."
