Chapter 90: Chapter 90 Kingsley Is The Bad Guy!
Dinner was calm at first. The table was quiet, only the sound of cutlery and soft music playing in the background could be heard.
Jasmine sat between her parents, eating slowly, lost in thought.
Then her father cleared his throat. "Jasmine," her father said, his voice firm and steady.
She looked up from her plate. "Yes, Dad?"
Across the table, her mother shifted uncomfortably in her seat. She reached for her water glass but didn’t drink. Jasmine noticed the change in the room. Something was off.
Her father placed his fork down. His expression was serious, more serious than she had seen in a long time.
"I didn’t want to bring this up during dinner," he began, "but I think you should be aware of the recent happenings."
Jasmine straightened in her chair. The tension in her father’s voice made her nervous. She watched his face, searching for a clue.
"What’s going on?" she asked cautiously, looking between her father and mother.
He sighed and looked directly at her. "The company is in trouble."
Jasmine froze. "What?" she said, trying to process his words.
He didn’t answer right away. Her mother lowered her gaze to the table, as if she already knew what was coming.
"Why?" Jasmine asked again, this time more firmly.
After a long pause, her father spoke. "It’s Kingsley. He’s attacking our stock market. And sabotaging us."
Jasmine blinked, too stunned to speak on time. "Kingsley?" Her voice rose slightly. "As in... Kingsley Elm? We just got divorced—what is he doing?"
Her father nodded grimly. "It’s him. We’ve confirmed it. He’s pulling strings, using partners, buying influence. He’s trying to bring us down."
She stared at him in disbelief. "That doesn’t make any sense. Why would he do that?"
Her father’s voice hardened. "Because that’s who he is. And I warned you from the onset. I told you not to get involved with Kingsley Elm, but you didn’t listen."
"I was angry with Jack," Jasmine said, her voice low. "You know that. Kingsley was never supposed to be permanent. He was—" she paused, swallowing hard, "he was a mistake."
Her mother reached out to her gently. "We understand, Jasmine. But this is serious now. He’s not just hurting you. He’s hurting the family."
Her father’s eyes were sharp. "You brought him into our world, and now he’s trying to destroy it."
Jasmine stood from the table, her chair scraping back against the floor. "I didn’t give him anything," she said. "He doesn’t know how our business works."
"Maybe not," her father replied. "But he knows how you work. And he’s using that."
Silence fell between them.
Jasmine felt her heart pounding in her chest. It was supposed to be over. She had walked away from Kingsley. She thought that was the end of it.
But now, he was back—and he wasn’t done with her yet.
"You should have listened when I told you he is a monster!" Moore Trevor snarled.
Jasmine’s eyes flashed with anger. "So now you’re blaming me for everything? Like I’m the one who caused this mess?"
Her father’s jaw tightened. "I’m not blaming you. I’m warning you. You made your choices, Jasmine. You married him. You gave him a chance."
"That was my life!" she snapped. "Not yours! You don’t get to decide who I love or don’t love."
Her mother reached out, trying to calm the rising tension. "Jasmine, please. We’re just worried. This isn’t about blame."
But Jasmine shook her head, stepping away from the table. "Worried? You didn’t warn me enough. You just sat there while I was hurting. And now, when things go wrong, it’s all on me?"
Her father’s face reddened with frustration. "You think I wanted this? Do you think I like seeing my family in danger? But you have to open your eyes! Kingsley isn’t who you think he is."
"I know exactly who he is," Jasmine said sharply. "He was my husband, for God’s sake. I lived with him. I know his face better than anyone."
Her mother sighed deeply. "This isn’t helping. We need to work together. Fighting like this won’t fix anything."
But Jasmine wasn’t listening anymore. "You think I don’t know how dangerous this is? You think I’m just sitting here, blind to what’s happening? Don’t talk to me like I’m a child."
Her father’s voice grew cold. "Then start acting like an adult."
She took a deep breath and stood up suddenly, the chair scraping loudly against the floor.
"I can’t do this right now," she said, her voice sharp.
Her mother opened her mouth to speak, but Jasmine didn’t wait. She grabbed her bag from the chair and walked past her parents without looking back.
The front door closed behind her, her heart was pounding as she rushed to her car.
She slammed the door shut, started the engine, and pulled out of the driveway without hesitation.
The streets blurred past as she drove.
Her mind was spinning with anger and confusion. She didn’t want to hear more warnings or blame.
She just needed answers. She needed to face Kingsley because he was the only one with the answers.
After twenty minutes, she arrived at Kingsley’s lone mansion that seemed to have been lacking warmth.
Jasmine parked quickly and got out of the car. Her heels clicked on the marble floor as she walked toward the front door.
Her hand hesitated for a moment before she knocked on the door.
Then the door opened, revealing the man who had somewhat entered her world only to ruin it.
Kingsley.
"Jasmine," he said with a smirk, looking calm and unbothered like an asshole. His hands were tucked into his pants pockets, his Grey shirt clung to his well-toned arms.
She didn’t smile back at him. "I need to talk to you."
"Well, well," he said slowly. "Didn’t think I’d see my ex-wife on my doorstep tonight. What is it, Jasmine? Missed me already?"
She rolled her eyes and hissed. "Don’t flatter yourself."
He stepped aside and motioned for her to come in. "Still fiery, I see. Come on in. Always room for a second round of heartbreak."
Jasmine pushed past him without another word, entering the living room. She turned sharply once inside, facing him.
"I’m not here to play games, Kingsley," she snapped. "Are you attacking my family’s company or not?"
Kingsley shut the door behind her and walked in slowly, looking as unbothered as can be. "Straight to the point. That’s new."
"Answer me."
He poured himself a drink from the bar without looking at her. "Let’s not pretend your father didn’t have this coming."
Jasmine’s jaw tightened. "Excuse me?"
He turned, sipping from his glass casually. "Moore Trevor thinks he’s untouchable. This is just... balance."
"You call destroying my family’s business balance?" she shouted.
He raised a brow. "I call it payback. Your father knows exactly what he did to me."
"He was right after all," Jasmine shot back. "You’re not good enough. You’re a bitter, selfish coward."
Kingsley’s smirk faded. "And yet you married me, slept next to me, let me into your life and Into your bed."
She took a step closer, her eyes twirling with anger and frustration. "And I regret every second."
The words hit, and for a moment, Kingsley’s cold facade slipped, a look of shock and.....pain crossed his face.
"You came all the way here to throw insults?" he said quietly. "Or are you just trying to make yourself feel better?"
"I came here because you’re trying to ruin everything my family built," she said. "And I’m not going to let you."
He set his glass down slowly, his expression darkening.
"You don’t get to lecture me, Jasmine. You chose me to get back at Jack, remember? I was your little revenge story. Don’t act like you were innocent."
Her voice dropped, cold and clear. "Maybe I was wrong about you then. But I’m not wrong now. You’ve gone too far."
He laughed, low and bitter. "Too far? No, sweetheart. I’m just getting started."
Her hands balled into fists. "Then, so am I."
Kingsley grinned, closing the space between them as he came nearer. Jasmine took a step back, again and again until her back hit the wall behind her. Kingsley closed in on her and caged her in between, his both hands rested on the wall close to her head.
His eyes searched through hers. "Feisty wife, you shouldn’t cross me."
Jasmine could hear her own heartbeat slamming against her ears. "And you do not mess with my family, you selfish man."
"Selfish, huh?? I’m not your father." He scoffed as if she was ridiculous.
"My father did nothing wrong. You are the bad guy here, not him!"
Kingsley shook his head. Jasmine had no business knowing about her father’s dirty deeds but she had a business to know that he wasn’t the bad guy. He was just too bruised badly and now,the only thing he wanted was clarity and a sense of closure. "You really think I’m the bad guy??"
Jasmine fell silent. Her eyes lingered on him and for a split moment—she wasn’t seeing that cocky side of him that was after her father’s business, this time—she was actually seeing a pained man who had gone through a whole lot of bullshit in his life that it has molded him into this cold person who cared less.
Seeing how quiet she was, Kingsley felt a pang of disappointment which he concealed. Maybe he expected too much from Jasmine.
He took a step back and said coolly. "Your business here is over. Please, Leave. Now."
