Reborn Heiress: Married To My Ex-Husband's Rival
Chapter 91 Jack’s Confrontation

Chapter 91: Chapter 91 Jack’s Confrontation

Kingsley stepped out of the car slowly. His face was masked with a frown. He didn’t want to be here, but he had no choice. He needed to find out if Vanessa was really paralyzed. He didn’t trust her. He didn’t like her. But for now, he had to pretend to care.

The hotel door opened after a painful moment of waiting. Raymond came out, pushing Vanessa in a wheelchair. She wore a pink dress and big black sunglasses. Her hair was tied back neatly. She smiled when she saw Kingsley.

"I hope you are ready," Kingsley said as he walked toward her.

"Yes, I am ready," Vanessa replied with a warm smile.

Kingsley sighed and looked away. He didn’t return her smile. He stood with his hands in his pockets, his eyes cold.

Vanessa tilted her head. "You don’t have to look at me like that," she said, her voice was calm but sad.

"I look how I want to look," Kingsley replied curtly.

Vanessa’s smile faded a little. "You didn’t have to come," she said softly, looking at the ground.

"I had to," Kingsley said. "You said something about the doctor’s appointment. I need to know what’s going on."

Vanessa looked up at him, searching his face. "You don’t believe me, do you?"

Kingsley didn’t answer right away. He looked past her, pretending to be distracted by a passing car.

"I believe doctors," he said finally. "Not people who lie."

Vanessa turned her head slightly and saw extra cars behind, she knew Kingsley didn’t move with convoys. "I thought... I’d ride with you," she said.

Kingsley glanced at her, then at Raymond. He gave a small shake of his head.

"She’s going with Joe," he said.

Vanessa’s mouth dropped open just a little. "Why?" she asked.

"Because I don’t want to talk. I don’t want to sit in silence. I don’t want to deal with fake emotions," Kingsley said. His voice was sharp like a knife.

Vanessa looked down at her lap. Her fingers gripped the armrest of the wheelchair.

"You are still the same," she said quietly.

Kingsley gave a small, bitter laugh. "Good. At least I’m not pretending."

Raymond cleared his throat. "Ma’am... should I help you into the other car?"

Vanessa didn’t speak. She just nodded slowly.

Raymond turned the wheelchair and began to push her toward the second black car waiting nearby.

As they moved, Vanessa looked over her shoulder. Her voice came out soft, almost too fragile.

"Kingsley... why do you hate me so much?"

Kingsley stood beside his car. His hand was on the door handle. He didn’t turn to face her.

"You already know," he said.

"No. I don’t," Vanessa whispered.

Kingsley looked at her now. His eyes were dark. "You played me. And now you want to act like nothing happened? Hypocrite. "

"I never meant to hurt you, I explained what happened. My abusive ex—," Vanessa trailed off. Her lips trembled a little.

Kingsley said nothing. He got into the car and shut the door.

Vanessa sat still as Raymond helped her into the other car. Both cars started, ready to leave the hotel where Vanessa was confined.

As the cars pulled away from the hotel, Vanessa stared out the window.

Her voice was too quiet to be heard. "I still love you..."

Kingsley kept his eyes on the road. Then,he rolled up his window to block her off, not wanting to spare a single glance at Vanessa.

The cars drove for a while in silence. Kingsley’s car was in front. Vanessa’s car followed behind Kingsley’s. Vanessa sat still, her eyes staring out the window. Her heart felt heavy, but she didn’t know why. Something felt strange.

They reached the hospital garage. Kingsley’s car stopped at the center of the parking lot. But the car Vanessa was in didn’t park properly. It stayed behind Kingsley’s car, the engine still on.

Vanessa frowned. "Why did we stop like this?" she asked.

Joe, the driver, didn’t answer.

Vanessa looked around. She tried to turn her head but stopped herself. She remembered—she had to act crippled. She couldn’t move her body too much or raise suspicion.

"I can’t see anything," she whispered to herself.

She leaned just a little to the side, pretending to shift for comfort, but the dark window blocked her view. She couldn’t see what was happening outside.

At the front of the garage, Kingsley opened his car door and stepped out. He had a slight smirk on his face. His hands were in his pockets as he looked ahead.

Raymond came out next and stayed close behind Kingsley. Two more guards got out of the car behind them. They stood tall, watching.

Kingsley walked forward.

A tall man stepped out of a black, dusty car across the lot. He looked tired with dark circles under his eyes. His clothes were wrinkled. He wore a cheap brown coat and faded jeans. His shoes looked worn out.

Jack Raven.

Kingsley smiled wider. "Jack," he said with fake cheer. "You finally crawled out of your hole."

Jack stood still, directing a glare at him. "You ruined everything, Kingsley. But I’m not dead yet."

"I did you a favor," Kingsley said, shrugging. "Your company was trash. I just helped it fall faster."

Jack’s hands clenched. "You think you’re untouchable."

"No. I know I’m better than you," Kingsley said.

Jack stepped closer. "You may have my company. But you won’t always have the last word."

Kingsley laughed. "Look at you. Wearing knock-offs. Driving a cheap broker’s car. What’s next? Selling snacks in traffic?"

Jack’s eyes narrowed. "I’ll bounce back."

"Sure," Kingsley said. "When pigs fly."

They stood close now. Face to face. The air between them was full of hate.

Jack smiled, a bitter and crooked smile. "You talk like a king. But you still can’t manage the woman I dumped."

Kingsley’s face froze. His smile faded. "You mean Jasmine?" Kingsley asked slowly.

Jack nodded. "Yes. Jasmine. The woman i let go."

Kingsley’s hands dropped to his sides. His eyes darkened. "You mean, the woman who ditched you in the aisle and settled for me??"

Jack chuckled. "She was my leftover. You picked her up like a lost coin."

Kingsley took a step forward. "She’s a priceless jewel," he said with fire in his voice. "You failed to keep her. That’s your loss."

Jack flinched. That one hit deep. It was true. Jasmine left Jack in the most embarrassing way.

But Jack wasn’t done. He leaned closer. "If she’s so priceless, why did you divorce her?"

That was the last straw.

Kingsley’s fist came fast. A clean punch to Jack’s jaw. Jack’s head pushed sideways as he staggered back.

Raymond moved forward quickly. The guards reached for their guns but didn’t draw.

Jack wiped blood from his lip. He laughed, his voice hoarse. "Touched a nerve, didn’t I?"

Kingsley stepped back. His chest rose and fell. "Next time, Jack," Kingsley said, pointing a finger, "I won’t stop at one punch."

Jack raised both hands in fake surrender. "Don’t worry. I’ll be waiting."

They stared at each other for a few seconds more. Then Kingsley snarled and instructed Raymond while still staring at Jack. "Bring Vanessa out of the car so we can leave this place tainted by this Jack-Ass."

Raymond walked back toward the second car. His steps were quick. The driver opened the door for him.

"Time to get out," he said quietly, trying as much as he could to not show his hatred towards Vanessa.

Another man came and together, he and Raymond lifted Vanessa and placed her carefully in the wheelchair. Her dress shifted a little as they moved her, but she didn’t speak.

The air felt heavy all of a sudden. Vanessa’s heart beat faster. As Raymond began to push her toward the front, she felt the tension growing.

She saw Kingsley first. He was standing straight with his back to her, facing someone.

Then she saw the man standing opposite him. Her whole body stilled. Her mouth went dry. Her eyes widened. Her chest tightened.

Jack!!

The same Jack she had hoped never to see again. The same man from her past. The one who should never have seen her like this.

Jack, who had been glaring at Kingsley, looked up. His eyes moved past Kingsley and landed right on her.

He froze.

Everything around them seemed to go quiet.

Kingsley felt it too. He turned his head slowly, he looked at Vanessa, then at Jack... then back at Vanessa again.

His brows pulled together but he didn’t speak.

Vanessa’s breathing quickened. She sat up straighter, trying to calm herself. She pretended not to notice Jack. Pretended not to know him.

She swallowed the lump in her throat and looked at Kingsley. "Can we go inside now?" she asked, her voice trembling just a little. "Please?"

Before Kingsley could answer, Jack stepped forward.

He didn’t look at Kingsley. His eyes were locked on Vanessa.

Or rather—

Lucinda.

"Lucinda," he said slowly. Loud enough for everyone to hear. "How come you’re suddenly a cripple now?"
